Year 1 Our Sense of Smell

Date: 24th Sep 2024 @ 6:17pm

Today we explored another of our five senses. We learnt about the sense of smell and which part of our body we use to smell, before exploring new key vocabulary. We applied this new vocabulary together to match smell pots in small groups. We had to match the pots to find the one with the same smell, answering key questions such as ‘what are the smells?’ ‘are they nice of unpleasant?’ and ‘have you smelt this before?’ In our outdoor area we also explored different smells and scents to create our own perfumes.

We ended with a languages quiz and learned a greeting song in French.

Reception Growing and Changing

Date: 23rd Sep 2024 @ 3:59pm

This week the children have been learning about how we grow and change.  We listened to the story 'When we were giants' and talked about how we change throughout time and the different things we learn to do at each stage.

"When I was a baby I crawled" Kevin

"I go on my bkie now" Dennis

"Grown up make dinner and look after me" Lily-Mae

The children then made their own timelines.

Reception- All About Me!

Date: 22nd Sep 2024 @ 11:06am

Over the last few weeks, Reception have been talking about their themselves an their families. This week, we have been paying particular attention to what we look like- especially our faces.

We realised we all have different coloured hair and eyes, different length and styles of hair and even our skin is a different colour to others.

We painted self portraits and also made a paper plate of our faces too.

"I have brown eyes" Dina

"My hair is short" Kayden.

"I have a ponytail and long hair" Rosie

"I have freckles on my face" Michael.

Nursery Have a Garden Guest

Date: 20th Sep 2024 @ 2:36pm

You never know who you're going to find in the nursery garden! This week we found a very large slug! The children were fascinated watching him move around and noticed that his antennaes went into his head when they touched something he didn't like. We talked about what the slug might like to eat and decided it was probably leaves and not pizza! We were all cheering the slug on as he tried to climb the steps. We're not sure if he made it, but the next day he wasn't there so we think he must of reached the top!

Nursery Let Me See Those Funky Fingers

Date: 20th Sep 2024 @ 2:22pm

It is really important for the nursery children to have stong finger muscles to support a good pencil grip. There are always lots of opportunites for children to develop these muscles in continous proviosn both indoors and outdoors.

This week the children have been using tweezers to catch worms for the owl babies - it's very tricky as the worms were very slippery! Outside the children were investigating sunflowers. They pulled the petals off, mushed up the leaves and carefully pulled apart the middle of the flower. The children are goinfg to have the biggest finger muscles in town by the end of the year!

Acorns - This is me

Date: 20th Sep 2024 @ 1:28pm

Acorns have been busy learning all about me, over the last couple of weeks.

We have been reading This is me and From Head to Toe.

We have had lots of fun developing our understanding through music and exploring our faces  and how our bodies move with mirrors.

We have been exploring mark making and making faces during arts and crafts.

Using visuals and Makaton to support our understanding.

Year 3 - 1, 10, 100 More and Less

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 8:34pm

We have been working on finding 1, 10 and 100 more than any given number up to 1000.  We have been using the place value counters to help us see what changes when we subtract or add these amounts and what stays the same.We looked for patterns when adding and subtracting 10 and 100 and we noticed that the ones digit will always stay the same when adding or subtracting 10 or 100. "I've noticed that they all have 6 in the ones column." - Jamaal

Year 3- Brilliant ballet!

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 11:53am

Year Three loved having teachers and a live musician visit from the Royal Ballet School. Each week the children will have lessons to teach them key ballet skills. The enjoyed doing a reverence and learning a port de bra. Next week we will be going on a trip to watch some of the Royal Ballet students in action.

Year 6 - Investigating Light in Science

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 10:25am

Our Science topic this half term is light. After recapping on our learning from Year 3 and discussing the vocabulary that we need to know, we learned that light travels in a straight line. We conducted an experiment to prove this.

Year 5 - Musical Maestros

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 9:33am

The children in year 5 have been learning to sing the song, 'Ghost Parade'. They have sang together and created their own musical melodies to accompany the song.  Pupils experimented with different notes, timings and volume during the performances.

Year 2- Sewing Sensations!

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 9:17am

This week we started to master the skills of sewing. We learnt how to thread, how to do a running stitch and we practised cutting precisely. It is a very difficult skill to master and we will be continuing to practise this in the upcoming weeks. Eventually, we will put this into practise to make our very own puppets! Watch this space!

Year 2- Balancing and Rolling

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 9:05am

This half term in PE, we are focusing on Gymnastics. This week we recapped the balances we learnt in Year 1 as well as some of the rolls: teddy bear roll, pencil roll and egg roll. We spent time practising each one and trying to perfect them.

Year 1 Our School Grounds

Date: 19th Sep 2024 @ 7:40am

This week in Geography we have used fieldwork to identify the features of our school grounds. We went out into our school environment to explore the main features we could see and identify them on a birds eye view map.

Year 6 Computing - Introduction to Spreadsheets

Date: 18th Sep 2024 @ 3:41pm

Today we began out Computing unit on spreadsheets. The first lesson included learning about how to input data into cells and how to format cells to change the size, colour and style of text. We also began to look at how to add a formula to specific cells in order to add together numbers.

Year 5 - Masters of the Universe

Date: 17th Sep 2024 @ 4:36pm

In science today, we created a scale replica of our solar system. We found the distances of the planets from the sun in Astronomical unit (AU), and converted this to meters. 1 AU is the distance from Earth to the Sun, so on our model Earth was 1 meter from the Sun. As you can see the rocky planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are relatively close together, whereas the gas giants are further apart.

Democracy Week

Date: 17th Sep 2024 @ 3:48pm

This week, Chris Webb MP launched our School Council election campaign with a visit to to the school.

It began on Monday with a whole school assembly where Chris talked to the children about what it is like to be an MP and answered questions about his role. They also learnt about the British Value, democracy , why we vote and how to become a school councillor. The children also looked at what characteristics make a good school councillor and how they can encourage their class to vote for them.

After assembly, Miss Moyes showed Chris around the school where he had a chance to meet the children in their classrooms and speak to them about the school and their experiences. Overall, it was a very successful visit and Chris said he was "very impressed" and that we should be "proud of our school".

Voting day is Thursday 26th September.

Have you got what it takes to be part of the school council? If so, your school needs YOU!

Year 4 - Density and Viscosity

Date: 16th Sep 2024 @ 9:21pm

Some tricky new vocabulary for Year 4 today. We learned all about density (heavy) and viscosity (thickness) of liquids and did some little experiments to find out more. Oil is less dense (‘heavy’) than water, so it ‘floats’ on top of the water. The fizzy tablet makes a gas (carbon dioxide). Gases are less dense (‘heavy’) than water or oil, so it goes up through both liquid layers. When the gas goes up, it mixes some of the particles of oil and water together. Different liquids have different viscosities (thicknesses). The more viscous the liquid is, the longer it takes for the bubble to move through. In liquids that are more viscous, the particles are closer together than in less viscous liquids.

Year 3 - Ramp Investigation

Date: 16th Sep 2024 @ 9:05pm

During our Science unit, Forces and Magnets, we conducted an investigation to find out how a car would travel on different surfaces. We thought about how we would keep our investigation fair, what we would change, what we would keep the same and what we would measure.  We also made predictions before carrying out the investigation in small groups,  We recorded our results in a table and during our next Science session we will think about what the results tell us.

Year 3 - Flexible Partitioning

Date: 16th Sep 2024 @ 8:50pm

Year Three have been working on flexibly partitioning numbers to 1000.  We have been using part-part-part whole models and place value counters to help us see how the same 3-digit number can be partitioned in many different ways.

Year 2- Finding Microhabitats

Date: 15th Sep 2024 @ 7:52pm

This week, Year Two continued their learning of Living things and their habitats by going into our School grounds and forest school area to find what microhabitats we have around us and the minibeasts we could find in each habitat. We looked under logs and wooden objects, in the long grass as well as looking at the pond. We found: a ladybird, slugs, snails, woodlouse and spiders. We then discussed the conditions in each of the microhabitats that made it suitable for each of the minibeasts.
