In this week’s art lesson, we explored the exciting world of performance art through the work of Heather Hansen. She creates stunning pieces using charcoal in each hand, moving gracefully across large sheets of paper on the floor. Inspired by her, we had a go at creating our own movement-based artwork. Using charcoal, we danced, stretched, and moved to make expressive marks, turning our movements into art. It was a unique and creative experience—and yes, we got a little messy, but that made it even more fun! We loved combining art with movement in such a playful way.

We pulled funny faces in the mirror, practised breathing and humming exercises, and even recited Humpty Dumpty using different tones and speeds. It helped us understand that speaking clearly isn’t just about words—it’s also about how we use our bodies and voices. We can’t wait for the next session!

We spent time looking through key vocabulary to enable us to fully understand our learning. Together we decided that the Maya were successful over time because they:

Year 5 - Mountain Modelling

Date: 18th Sep 2025 @ 7:50am

During our latest Geography lesson on mountains, the classroom turned into a mini mountain range! After learning about the key features of mountains – from peaks and ridges to valleys and slopes – some of our pupils decided to get creative. Using modelling clay, they built their very own mountains, carefully shaping and labelling the different features we’d discussed.

It was fantastic to see them using their new knowledge in such a hands-on way. The clay mountains sparked lots of discussion about real-life landscapes and helped everyone visualise how mountains form. A brilliant mix of creativity and geography in action!
