We also read Billy's Bucket and enjoyed choosing what we would put in our own buckets. We even created our own seaside scene.

This week, we recieved the fantastic news that Albie has been selected for his work to be published in a book! We are so proud of you Albie and we look forward to buying some copies of the book for our library!

In Geography, we learnt all about pollution that affects the coast. We considered how it this pollution happens and what damage it causes. We then thought about how we could solve our pollution problem and decided to go on a litter pick! We were shocked at how much we found and made a promise to keep our school clean!

This week we thought about how History linked to our local area. Year Three focussed on the local brand Fisherman’s Friends, and focussed on the work by Doreen Lofthouse. She was a local hero who donated lots to charity and funded many local projects in Fleetwood. We even tried some of the Fisherman’s Friends, the children’s opinions on them was very split!

Nursery had a super sports stay and play. We invited the children's families in to take part in some sports activities with their children. We had a penalty shoot out, balancing bean bags, egg and spoon race, an obstacle course and target practise. We all had a wonderful time.
Date: 4th Jul 2024 @ 12:17pm
Nursery did a wonderful science experiment this week to make a rainbow! We needed kitchen towel, felt tip pens and two small bowls of water. We coloured a small rainbow at the bottom of the kitchen towel and when we placed it in water, the rainbow grew! This is becasue the fibres in the kitchen roll have lots of little holes. Water is absorbed throught the kitchen roll becasue when the first water molecule sticks to it and begind to move up, it pulls the next water molecules up with it, like a chain!
Year 5 - Blackpool Presentations
Date: 4th Jul 2024 @ 10:48am
The Year 5 children who are not at PGL were busy yesterday putting all of their learning from our Heritage Day and Geography Day to the test to create a PowerPoint presentation all about Blackpool. The children had to talk about Blackpool and what it has to offer to try and persuade people to come to our lovely seaside town. Some children came to the front to present their powerpoint and they all did a fantastic job.
This was followed by PE in the afternoon where the children enjoyed a BenchBall tournament. An enjoyable day for all involved.

For this year's Heritage Day, year 5 were asked the question, 'Why did Blackpool become a popular tourist resort?'
The pupils looked at a range of old photos to see how the town has changed over the past 150 years. Together we found out how the Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach, Winter Gardens and piers came about. Pupils used this information to support their writing of a newspaper to comemorate the visit of Princess Louise in 1912 - which was the beginning of the famous Blackpool Illuminations.

Our key question was 'What has changed in our local area?'
We looked at maps and information online to find out about the £20,000,000 redevelopment of Grange Park. Using our geography skills, we collected information about the types of houses (131 new homes have been built) that have been built around the school, collated the data and presented our findings in a bar graph. We also did a Kahoot! quiz, with help from some parents, about the Grange Park redevelopment.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 7:36pm
Our key question was 'How do we get from Boundary to the beach and what will we see along the way?'
We found our route using maps in the morning and after lunch we walked the route. Along the way, using clipboards, we wrote down examples of human features and physical features we saw. We decided that there were much more human features than physical.

Today, we participated in Geography Day thinking about the key question 'How has our local area changed?' We began by looking at our School on Google Earth and looking at what we could see on the aerial view picture, in small groups we labelled key things around our area. Then, we looked at the surrounding areas of school on Google Earth from 2022, focusing on Boundary Place and thought about what it looked like before going outside to see what we could find. We recorded findings through digital photographs and drawings. Our observations showed that the area has changed a lot and there are now lots of new houses and roads surrounding Boundary. We compared 2022 Boundary Place and current Boundary Place and thought about how this has affected the local area. We have enjoyed focusing on our local area the last couple of days and thinking about how changes can affect us.

Today, we were joined by our parents for Together Time. We used a map of the playground to locate key areas where there was a piece of jigsaw to be found. They then used the pieces of the puzzle to build a world map. Once all the pieces were correct, we labelled the continents and oceans using an atlas to support us. Thank you to all the parents that joined us, we hope you enjoyed your morning!
Acorns - A visit from the Naughty Bus
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 2:27pm
Acorns have been celebrating Geography day with a visit from the Naughty Bus.
We enjoyed reading the story about the naughty bus and its journey.
Acorns then went on their own journey to explore our school community. Soon the naughty bus was popping up everywhere!! We found he had been to reception class, he had visited Mrs Bunday's office, Year 1, Elmer, the reading tree and Miss Moyes office. We had great fun exploring the school and finally found the bus un the sensory room where we enjoyed spending some time.
We can't wait for the naughty bus to come and visit again to see what our next journey could be!!!

Together Time
Today we enjoyed exploring materials and tools to connect them together in a playful way. We began by recapping on different ways we can manipulate and change the shape of paper, before becoming explorers and inventors to create a range of sculptures using prompt cards. Our prompt cards asked us to make ‘something which has a seed and grows a root and a shoot,’ ‘a family of something’ and ‘something small enough to fit in your palm.’ We enjoyed sharing our learning with our adults, being creative, using our imagination and creating something unique and individual to us!
Year 4 - Together Time (Maple)
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 9:55am
We started our Geography Day during Together Time today. Our question is 'How do we get from Boundary Primary School to the beach and what will we see along the way?' We discussed what fieldwork is and then used maps to mark out our route for our walk this afternoon.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 7:58am
For Year 6's Heritage Day we looked at the history of LGBTQ+ in the town and how Basil Newby has played such an influential role in the growth of the town.
Date: 1st Jul 2024 @ 5:19pm
Today we explored the key question, ‘how has the Blackpool Tower Circus changed?' We began by learning about the circus in the past, the year it opened, what acts performed there and how it looked. We looked at both photo evidence and posters, discussing what clues we could see that gave us information about the past. We learnt about how the circus has changed over time and sorted a range of pictures into past and present. We then created a timeline of the promotional posters used. Finally we created our own posters for the present circus!
Date: 1st Jul 2024 @ 4:09pm
Today, Year Two had a heritage day where we explored a location in our town. We studied Blackpool Pleasure Beach, starting by looking at where it is and looking at some of the different things that are there before we put them in chronological order thinking about which parts are the oldest and which are from the present day. We put these in order on a timeline. Then, we compared photos of the Pleasure Beach from the past and present, including the flying machine which has been there from the opening day in 1894. Finally, we looked at the managing director Amanda Thompson and the influence she has had over the Pleasure Beach in recent years since she took the role in 2004. We have loved looking and learning about the Pleasure Beach in more detail.

This week has been Health week! Year Three has loved all the sports themed activities that we have done! We had Wigan Warriors in to do wheelchair rugby, which we loved spinning and whizzing around! We also had a visit from the Coast Guard who taught us all about water safety. The children also thought it was hilarious the throw water at Miss Hughes to test if the dry suit worked!
