This week, Oak class have begun their new class novel of Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We don't want to give too much away so read the following blurb and see if it's something you'd like to read:
'My name is August. I won't describe what I look like. Whatever you're thinking, it's probably worse.'
Auggie wants to be an ordinary ten-year-old. He does ordinary things - eating ice cream, playing on his Xbox. He feels ordinary - inside. But ordinary kids don't make other ordinary kids run away screaming in playgrounds. Ordinary kids aren't stared at wherever they go.
Born with a terrible facial abnormality, Auggie has been home-schooled by his parents his whole life. Now, for the first time, he's being sent to a real school - and he's dreading it. All he wants is to be accepted - but can he convince his new classmates that he's just like them, underneath it all?

This week, Year 4 have listened and responded to 'O Euchari.' We discussed the Medieval style of music and where it sat on the music timeline. Then, we learnt all about the life of Hildegard of Bingen, the composer of 'O Euchari,' and why her music was so different to others of that era. We walked around the classroom to find interesting facts about her life and created a class mindmap using post it notes.

Today, as we continue with our fractions unit, we used the ones to find a third of an amount. We carefully counted the correct amount of ones before sharing the whole amount into 3 equal groups. We were able to apply our knowledge of finding halves and quarters of amounts to help us find thirds.

Today we built on our previous learning of counting by making groups of 10 by learning to count forwards and backwards in 10s. We began our lesson with reading the story ‘Toasty Toes’ which introduced us to counting in tens by counting the number of toes on the beach. We then used a variety of representations, including tens frames, hundred squares and bead strings to support us to understand multiples of 10.
Date: 23rd Apr 2024 @ 4:53pm
Today we created a prototype for the front of our home. We continued to work safely with resources to follow our design. We evaluated our designs as we were working with our partners and after we had finished our prototypes we then discussed as a class what had gone well and what we had to change before making our final product.

The children had time to explore the materials we were using and then experimented with creating different pieces of art. Once we had our final piece we evaluated it for it's effectiveness thinking about what we liked about it and reflected on the techniques we had used.

It has an ordinary Thursday in Nursery when Mrs Robinson from the office arrived with a special delievry! What could be inside the box? We tried to guess and some people thought it might be a puppy while others thought it might of been a lizard! All good guesses - but no! Inside the box we found some teeny, tiny caterpillars! We can't wait to watch their transformation in to butterflies!
Date: 18th Apr 2024 @ 10:14pm
Nursery continue to learn about growth and change and this week we have been reading the story "Ben Plants a Butterfly Garden". We planted our own wild flower seeds and are looking forward to watching them grow. The children have also spent time exploring flowers and looking at their individual parts, sequenced how to grow and seed and created some collage flowers and some transient art flowers.
Reception- Looking for signs of Spring.
Date: 18th Apr 2024 @ 4:37pm
This week we have been looking for signs of Spring in our school grounds.
It was a little bit chilly but we wrapped up warmly and ventured out into the sunshine.
Around school, we found tulips growing, buds beginning to sprout on branches, pink and white blossom blowing in the wind, a birds nest and even some tadpoles swimming in our school pond.
As we discovered something new, we ticked it off our list until everything had been found- we were very lucky indeed!
Take a look at what Spring looks like at Boundary Primary School.
"Blossom grows on trees in Spring...it is pink and white" Esme.
"I can see tulips and they are red" Melani.
"We have a birds nest and baby birds in it in our outdoor area" Niko.
"Buds grow on trees in Spring" Elie- May.
"The tadpoles in the pond will grow up to be frogs" Mathew.
