We began todays lesson by thinking about how many different homes we could think of and what types of homes people live in around the world. Together, we then looked at a number of different homes, talking about what kind of home it was, what shapes we could see in the home and what materials the home was made from. We then looked a number of different picture cards showing different types of homes. We read and orally answered a number of different question cards and identified which houses fit each question/description. We also went outside to observe the different types of homes we can see from our school environment, revisiting our local area knowledge from earlier in the year.

Today, we went on a ‘Sound Walk’ around school. Before we went, we discussed what areas of school might be loud and which might be quiet. We spoke about how there might not be areas around school which are silent because of outside factors such as the building works and vehicles.
When we returned from our walk, we spoke about HOW we hear sounds. Our teachers banged on drums with rice and we noticed that they moved. The banging of the drum caused vibrations!

Today, we began to explore what capacity meant and after predicting what we thought might be the capacity of different containers we measured it out using cups. We had to be careful we were filling the cup the same amount each time and carefully counted how many cups filled each container to its capacity.

Today, Year 4 learnt about stages of embalming. We discussed how Egyptians tried to preserve the bodies to keep them as life-like as possible. We learnt that the organs of the person were removed before placing them in capopic jars. They then covered the bodies in a special type of salt and wrapped them in linen. Once we had discussed the process of embalming, we tried to remember the order of the key stages in our table groups. After this, we asked a set of instructions for an embalmer to use which outlined the stages that they must follow to carry out embalming process.

Over the past few weeks the children in Reception have been learning about why Christains celebrate Easter. We have listened to the Easter story and talked about the different events leading up to Jesus' crucification. We found out that Jesus was crucified on a cross on Good Friday . Then people took his body to a tomb but when his friends visited his body had gone. We talked about how Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead. As a class we discussed the different ways people including Christians celebrate Easter. To help us remember the importance of Easter we made our own cross on a hill.

Today we explored how the weather affects different jobs. We began by talking about the different jobs we know people may do and used picture prompts to explore a number of different jobs. We then thought about how the weather might affect these people’s jobs, looking at different examples and sharing our ideas. For each job, we thought about how two different types of weather would affect that persons daily tasks.

Date: 26th Mar 2024 @ 4:41pm
This term several of the year 5 pupils have been rehearsing for their performance of William Shakespeare's, Hamlet. Pupils had to learn their parts so they would be 'off script' for the performance, and develop their own take on the characters and dialogue. The attached photos are from our final dress rehearsal, where they were directed and encouraged by Emma Manton from the Royal Shakespeare Company. The pupils delivered an amazing performance on the night, and we are all excited to share the professional photos from the performance when they arrive.

Raising Money for 'Always Elmer'
Date: 22nd Mar 2024 @ 9:14am
Date: 21st Mar 2024 @ 9:22pm
As part of our Science learning, we conducted an experiment to find out how far germs spread when we sneeze. We also wanted to know if a tissue would stop the spread of sneezes and coughs. In small groups, we planned what we would do and how to keep the test fair. We thought about what we would change and what we would measure to help us answer the question.
We then applied our maths measures knowldge to mark out different distances, before conducting our experiment to see how far germs can travel.
Our shared conclusion was:
Using a tissue does not stop all of the germs spreading when you sneeze but it does reduce the amount of germs that spread because they are caught in the tissue.
We also found out that the closer you are to someone when they sneeze, the more the germs spread. There was much more spray (germs) at 25cm and 50 cm that reached the paper than at 150cm.
