Year 4 - Storytelling through drawing

Today we evaluated our art from last week (based on the poem 'A Day in Autumn'). We used evaluation post it notes and stem sentences to write about our illustrations. Then we used our reflections to start our final pieces.

Acorn - Christmas Jumper Day

Acorn had a wonderful day filled with some Christmas activities, a delicious Christmas dinner and even wearing our Christmas jumpers. We can't wait to do more Christmas activities over the next 2 weeks! Keep your eyes peeled to see what we do next! 

Acorn - Gingerbread Man

In Acorn, we have been reading the story 'Gingerbread Man'. We have been using props at the storytelling table to retell the story, using playdough during our Dough Disco sessions that smell of gingerbread too. We made salt dough and cut them into gingerbread shapes ready to paint them. What a busy week! Have a look at our wonderful learning.

Year 3- Christmas Jumper Day!

Today we had our Christmas jumper day in school. We all looked fabulous! We also enjoyed a christmas dinner with our friends. It was great fun pulling the crackers and telling the jokes. 

Year 5 - Christmas Dinner

Today, we had our fantastic Christmas dinner and wore our Christmas jumpers. Everyone was very full after enjoying their dinner!

Year 5 - Text Feature Detectives

As our Reading into Writing journey into stories from other cultures continues, pupils were challenged to find structure and language features from a variety of different text. We have been learning about the Australian Aborigional Dreamtime stories, a group of creation stories from their culture. Pupils identified the features before working collaboratively to find them in different stories.

Year 4 - Elf-lympics and Christmas dinner!

Today we took part in the Elf-lympics playing for points for our houses. Then we enjoyed a yummy Christmas Dinner in our Christmas jumpers!

Year 1 Christmas Jumper Day!

Year 1 are all looking forward to enjoying the Christmas activities around school over the next couple of weeks! Today, we had lots of fun on Christmas jumper day and enjoyed our delicious Christmas lunch!

Year 2- Christmas Jumper/Christmas Dinner Day

Today, alongside the whole school we enjoyed our annual Christmas dinner and Christmas jumper day. We all looked fabulous in our Christmas jumpers and enjoyed our festive dinner including Turkey and all the trimmings followed by a dessert of cake. It was delicious and we all enjoyed celebrating Christmas together!

Year 2- Fundamental Skills

This half term, Year Two have been working hard with their teachers and Mr Perkins practicing their fundamental skills including: throwing, catching and rolling. Over the last 7 weeks, we have learnt to do an underarm throw, thinking about bending the opposite leg, placing our palm towards the target and keeping a straight arm to ensure we throw accurately. We have completed many games where we have had to aim at targets on different levels and today we completed relay races to see who could get the most amount of balls into the baskets at the end as it was thrown down the line. 

Year 3- Mastering multiplication !

In Year 3, we have been looking at multiplying a 2-digit number by a 1- digit number (no exchange). The children used place value charts, base ten and counters to visually see the multiplication.

Reception- Christmas Is On It's Way!

The decorations are up, the tree is dressed and presents are wrapped! it's all happening in Reception this week.

Children have been working together, sharing ideas and using their critical thinking skills to get into the spiirit of Christmas. They have been using their fine motor skills to place baubles, tinsel and beads on the Christmas tree in the home corner and they have been measuring and cutting wrapping paper to wrap Christmas presents for each other.  

Year 3- Enterprise

Today in Year 3 we looked at enterprise. We looked at what it meant to have a budget, what a profit was and what it meant to have a loss. We then started to think about our own enterprise for the school fair. We calculated what we had spent to buy the stock we needed and then decided on a price so that we could make a profit. Our maths skills came in very handy! Finally, we make our reindeer hot chocolates ready to sell and raise money for school. 

Nursery's Open Ended Play

We always ensure that the resources we have in nursery are enganging and stimulate the children's imagination. Using open ended resources allows chidren the time to think about what they would like to do and how they would like to use the reosurces. It is also encourages the chidlren to work together and build positive realtionships. They always come up with super ideas and it's a pleasure to watch their play unfold. 

Nursery Prepare for the Reindeers

We have been reading the story "The Christmasaurus" by Tom Fletcher. It's all about a dinosaur who lives at the North Pole with Santa. The Christmasaurus really wants to fly so he can pull Santa's sleigh. Santa say's he will try to help him learn to fly and suggets the Christmasaurus eats some magical reindeer food. We made our own reindeer food for Santa's reindeer and the Christmasarus. The chidren had to count 3 spoonfuls of porridge oats and 2 pinches of magical glitter and then give it a gentle shake! They had to concentrate really hard to make sure each spoonful of porridge and each pinch of glitter went in to the bag!

Year 4 - Commitment and sacrifice

Today we practised our oracy skills when discussing how we sacrifice things to be committed to things we love. Just like Muslims are committed during Ramadan. We used an oracy grouping called 'Circle' where one person spoke and everyone had to listen to what they are committed to and what they sacrifice. Everyone outside the circle had to use their listening skills.

Year 4- Writing Playscripts

Year 4 have been focusing on writing playscripts. This week, we have watched a couple of the scenes from Arthur Christmas and have written a film script of these scenes as a class. We have thoroughly enjoyed looking at the main features of play/film scripts and using these in our own shared writing. We look forward to planning and drafting our own film scripts later on this half term.

Year 4 - Presenting yourself

This half term we have been learning to present ourselves. We have learned to answer the questions "Common tu t'appelle?", "Quel âge as tu?" and "Où habites-tu?" We have also been responding to the questions "Ca va?". Lots of our work has been verbal, but here's some of our written work.

Year 3- Phonics in French!

This half term the children have been learning the phonetics of French. They have recapped the numbers to 10, days of the week, the months and colours. 

Year 3- Marvellous musicians!

Year 3 have been looking at a range of styles of music and this week explored the artist Grazyna Bacewicz’s who hid seecret messages in her music during the Second World War! It was A musical message of hope, with the Morse code for ‘V’, symbolising victory, (dot dot dot dash) beaten out on the timpani during the piece. The children composed their own pieces usinfg the percussion trolley using morse code. 

Year 1 Disco

Lots of our Year 1 children attended our Christmas Disco and we all had a brilliant time! We enjoyed playing pass the parcel, dancing and eating our picnic tea! We are all looking forward to our Christmas party!

Year 5 - Crazy Conductors

In this lesson, pupils investigated which materials were good conductors of heat and which materials were good conductors of electricity. We concluded that metals were the best conductors of heat and electricity, and also that materials that were good heat conductors were also good electrical conductors. Materials that are not good conductors are called insulators.  

Year 6 - French Verbs

Year 6 have worked really hard in our French sessions this half term. They have learned the personal pronouns in French and how to conjugate a verb. We have improved our dictionary skills by finding infinitve verbs and their meanings and finished our journey by learning about the four common irregular verbs. 

Year 6 - Forest School (Indoors!)

The awful weather conditions did not stop Year 6 enjoying their Forest School sessions this week. Instead of using our Forest School area, we brought the activities inside. The children started the session by foraging for resources to make Christmas crafts and decorations. They learned skills including splitting wood and bending willow to make their own creations.
