Year 5 - Geography

In our Geography unit, we have been creating a non-chronological report. The children put together their non-chronological reports using Google Docs, meaning they needed to use their Digital Literacy skills to insert images, diagrams and the appropriate captions to enchance our written work.

Year 1 Jack and the Beanstalk

In music this half term, we have been learning all about Jack & the Beanstalk through songs.  We have been working on finding the quick rhythms in songs and identifying these by clapping, singing high and low notes with our voices and working on playing and singing in unison.  We used a variety of percussion instruments to play the rhythms to the song, ‘And He Went Higher’, but our favourite song was ‘Fee Fi Fo Fum’. 

Year 2- Christmas Jumpers, Elf Run and festive lunch

Today, Year Two celebrated all things Christmas. We wore our Christmas jumpers for our annual Christmas lunch and completed the Elf Run to raise some money for charity. We enjoyed the festive activities and loved our delicious lunch! 

Year 1 St Marks Trip

This week we visited St Marks Church to talk to followers of the Christian faith about what the important message in the Christmas story is. We met Reverend Matthew and told him everything that we have learnt about Christianity so far. Reverend Matthew then read the nativity story to us and we all joined in with different parts. He taught us about the key messages in the story and the roles of different characters.

Year 4 - Food chains

This week, we looked at food chains. We learnt the word Apex Predator which means the animal at the top of the food chain. We played an online game together putting cards in the correct position depending whether they were a producer, prey or predator. Then we had a go at it ourselves.

Year 1 Christmas Jumper Day and Elf Run!

We were all very excited to come to school today dressed in our Christmas jumpers ready for our Elf Run and Christmas lunch! We enjoyed raising money through our run, making our Christmas crowns and eating a yummy lunch!

Acorns - Christmas Jumper Day and lunch

Acorns have enjoyed Christmas jumper day and lunch. We loved pulling the crackers with support and trying on the hats. Some of us wore them all lunch time. 
We enjoyed colouring in some Christmas jumpers and trying on the Christmas hats. We all looked very smart. 

 

Year 3- Artists exploring chiaroscuro!

In this lesson, the children explored the work of Heather Hansen. She is an artist who explores art through movement. She performs along with music and we re-created this in our dance studio. The children loved this expressive opportunity!

Year 3- Sharing and grouping!

In Maths, we have been looking at Multiplication and Division. In this lesson we looked at the difference between sharing and grouping. The children used bar models to solve the problems and used base ten to also support them.

Year 3- Oracy skills

Through our Reading into Writing the children have been working on our oracy skills. We have looked at what our body language should be when we are listening to each other. We then looked at how to work as a team. The children discussed the key skills they would need and then used these skills to play a teamwork game.

Year 3- Together time!

The other week, Year Three invited parents in to come and see our learning. We focused on out KIRFs which have been four times tables this half term. The children and parents played a range of games to test these skills and completed a tarsia as well.

Year 5 - Rugby Skills

We have been working with Wigan Warriors this half-term, developing our skills in invasion games. We have learnt how to think tactically, how to make decisions at speed and how to find space in order to avoid having one of our tags taken.

Reception- Maths

Reception have been busy learning all about composition, cardinality and ordinality.

We have been matching the correct amount of objects to numbers 1-10 and understanding that numbers can be made up of different numbers.

Year 5 - Anglo Saxon Museum

Today, pupils in year 5 were given the opportunity to examine a number of Anglo-Saxon artefacts from the museum. We looked closely at the artefacts and tried to work out what they were made of and what they were for. Pupils also got the chance to try on a chain-mail vest and a reproduction of the helmet found in the 'empty grave' at Sutton Hoo.

Acorns - Stay and play

Acorns had a lovely morning when our families came for a stay and play session.

With lots of fun activities to engage in and a Christmas singalong to finish, we had a great morning and look forward to the next one. 

Year 1 Santa's Grotto Storytime

Today Year 1 visited Santas Grotto for our storytime. We were very excited to read our new story 'What the Ladybird Heard at Christmas' in the magical grotto! We loved looking at the different lights, talking about Christmas and sharing our experiences.

Nursery Visit Santa's Grotto

After visiting us at the school Christmas Fair, Santa asked if we would like use his Grotto for a magical story time. Well, of course we were staright there! We shared some wonderful Christmas stories in the Grotto and the children shared their own experiences of Christmas. 

Nursery Trim Santa's Beard

Santa's beard was out of control so we decided to give it a trim in time for Christmas! At the same time the children were able to practise their scissor and fine motor control and also have conversations about their own experiences (of hair cuts - not beard trims!) The childern were super at sharing the scissors and helping each other to make cuts in the paper. 

Year 6 - PCSO visit

As part of our PSHE and Science curriculum, today we invited PCSO Debby Savage to talk to Year 6 about the effects and dangers of drugs and alcohol. The children were very sensible listening to what she had to say and asked some very good questions. We discussed smoking, vaping, alcohol and illegal/legal drugs and how they can affect our bodies.

Year 2- Writing a Christmas Story

Year Two are beginning to write a christmas story based on the John Lewis advert Excitable Edgar. So far, we have immersed ourselves in different stories that have been told through a variety of Christmas adverts including the Christmas truce, Monty the penguin and the man on the moon. Throughout, we have discussed the problem and solutions for a story, main characters and the different settings. We noticed, good stories have lots of descriptive language so through our GPS sessions we have explored using adjectives to describe characters and settings as well as adverbs to describe actions. We are looking forward to planning and drafting our final stories. 

Year 2- Singing Opera

This half term, Year Two have been exploring Opera and used it to retell the story of Hansel and Gretel. Throguhout the unit, we have listened and appraised a variety of different songs before learning them and practicing singing together in unison. Also, we explored body percussion and used it to add into pauses and instrumental sections of songs in time to the beat.

Year 5 - Excellent Evaporating

This week pupils were given the task of seperating a saltwater solution. We reminded ourselves about what a solution is and how it is different to a mixture, and pupils identified salt as the solute and water as the solvent.  Pupils completed an experiment where they heated the solution to evaporate the water. This left behind crystals of pure salt. In a discussion, pupils linked this to prior learning about the water-cycle.

Year 6 - Electricity

Year 6 have completed some great work in Science this half term. We have learned all about electricity including how to draw circuit symbols and circuit diagrams. We have worked scientifically and carried out an investigation into what happens to a bulb when you add more cells to the circuit. The children really enjoyed this topic and remembered lots of their learning when they did the end of unit assessments. 

Year 6 - Crime Stories

Our writing journey over the past couple ofweeks has been crime stories. We read lots of different examples of crime stories and gathered lots of ideas and vocabulary to add into our own stories. Some of us wrote stories about a robbery in a mansion and others wrote about a dog-napping. Read through some of stories below.
