For one of our PE units this half term, we have been developing our dance skills. We have linked this dance with our current class novel, Fantastic Mr Fox. We have been thinking about how a fox might move and how we can show emotion through movement. We worked in small groups to put together a short motif that showed Mr Fox and his family digging, listening and moving.

- Immersion in Reading
- GPS linked to the genre
- Teacher model/Shared write
- Improving a WABOLL
- Plan
- Draft
- Edit

This week the children listened to the story 'No-Bot The Robot' - a robot who lost his bottom! It is a hilarious adventure about resilience and friendship.

"My robot has a square head" Esme.
"His friends helped him find his bottom" Summer.

Today, we continued our topic by exploring microhabitats. We thought about where we would find microhabitats before going into the forest school area to explore these to see what minibeasts we could find. We also discussed the conditions of the microhabitats and thought about how these minibeasts survived there. We looked under leaves, rocks, logs, under the bark and in some soil.

In PE this week we have been answering the question, how do I roll a ball at a target? We have focused on rolling different objects and thought about how we could roll things faster and slower. We took part in four different games to help us practise our rolling skills.

Key questions: What is mass? Does air have mass? Which gas does fire need to burn?
We discovered that air does have mass by weighing an empty balloon and a balloon with air in it.
We also discovered that when mixing bicarbonate of soda and vinegar we got carbon dioxide and our match blew out. That's because fire needs oxygen to burn.

Today we began our second lesson on senses. We recapped the fact that we have five senses and the body part associated with each. We then focused on hearing and sight. Firstly, we talked about the sense of hearing, which body part we use and what is happening when we hear. We played sound bingo with a range of common sounds. We had to listen very carefully!
After this we moved onto our sense of sight. We again discussed which body part we use and what is happening when we see something. We then did an illusions test! Some of us could see both pictures and some of us could only see one! We also learnt the different parts of our eyes, including eyelashes, eyebrow, pupil and eyelid.
We realised that there are lots of things we do that use more than one sense! We then went on an observational walk around our school grounds, inside and outside, focusing on what we could see and what we could hear. We stopped on the playground, closed our eyes and focused on the sounds around us. We also walked through school and listened to the sounds coming from all around our school!

Over our first couple of weeks in Year 1 we have been exploring our new classroom environment and resources. We have been working independently to complete our 'mini me' tasks in the provision. We have learnt to use resources such as sound mats and number lines to support our ability to work independently when accessing these tasks.

Today we began learning about Christianity by exploring families and belonging. We explored the fact that all families are unique and discussed who is in our family. We thought about different relationships and about how they might be similar and different to others. We learnt that Christians believe that God is like a father who guides them and helps them. We then created our own family portrait, sharing how our families look after each other.

This week, pupils in year 5 have been recalling, and building on their knowledge of place value and the number system. We have been working with numbers up to 1,000,000 - writing them in figures and words. Pupils have used Base 10, place value charts and whole - part models to represent numbers.

As part of our science journey into space, we have learned about the different planets in our solar system and how they orbit the Sun. In this lesson, we went outside and made a scale model to represent the distances between the planets.

In Science, Year 3 have looked at investigating forces and looking at friction in action. The children did a range of activities to see how friction worked and what happened when they rubbed their hands together.
Year 3- Perfecting programming!
Date: 14th Sep 2023 @ 8:41am
In Computing, Year 3 have been looking at using the program ‘Scratch’. We looked at how the blocks moved the sprite and when we looked inside the program we throught about how we could improve it.
Year 2 - Flexible Partitioning
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 8:47pm
Year Two have been using the Base 10 and part-part-whole models to partition 2-digit numbers in different ways. We tried to do this in a systematic way so we could spot the patterns occuring with the tens digits. We started to record our calculations with addition senetences and this also helped us to see the patterns in the digits.
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 8:36pm
As part of our Reading into Writing journey, Year Two have been learning how to use conjunctions effectively to join clauses. We enjoyed working in small groups to match clauses with appropriate conjunctions. Once matched, we had to re-read the sentences carefully to make sure that they made sense with the chosen conjunction. We will continue to develop our understanding and start to use a wider range of conjunctions in our next piece of writing.
Year 2 - Computing - Budding Photographers
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 8:21pm
For our first Computing unit of the year, Year Two are focusing on Digital Photography. We have been learning the steps needed to take a good photograph and how we can adjust the way we are holding our devices to improve the photographs we take. We have also been learning the difference between portrait and landscape images and experimenting with these, thinking carefully about which option a photographer might prefer depending on the subject of the photograph.

In our History lesson today, we have had the opportunity to look at various Mayan artefacts including a replica calendar. The children asked and answered lots of interesting questions and used their critical thinking skills to talk about what each object told us about the Maya.
Year 6 - Computing: Spreadsheets
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 3:53pm
Today we began our new unit of spreadsheets in Computing. Today's session involved inputting data into a given table. We did this by rolling a dice 5 times and repeating the task. We then added each roll to the table.
