This week in History, we found out about Queen Boudica. Boudica was a fierce, brave warrior queen who had enough of the Romans mistreating her and her fellow Britons, so she decided to fight back!
Year 4 - Knowing all the places

Since returning to school we have had a huge focus on Place Value in Maths. Today, we focused on representing numbers to 10000.

Today, we focused on performing. To start the lesson, we recapped the elements of music focusing on our vocabulary words. Learn to sing the Hoedown again, recap context. Then after a little warm up of our voices we learned to sing ‘Hoedown’.
We focused on:
- Learning to sing the song as part of an ensemble/choir
- Following a leader/conductor
- Understanding the meaning of the song
- Demonstrating and maintain correct posture and breath control
- How do we sing at our best? Standing and with air in our lungs. How can we sing in unison?

This week the children have been learning about the similarities and difference between them and their friends. We have been reading some different stories about our families and talking about who lives in our house. The children have been using mirrors to identify the different features on their face and identify what makes them and their family unique.

Today all the children in Reception enjoyed picking their lunches and staying at school for dinner, THey have been learning the importance of waiting in line, asking the dinner staff clearly what they would like, how to use the salad bar and how to sit nicely at the table and use their knives and forks. The children were also trying hard to remember to say please and and thank you. Have a look at some of the pictures of the children enjoying lunch with their new friends.

Today Year 6 continued the grammar unit in their French lesson. First, we recapped on last week's learning - the gender of nouns and indefinite articles. We moved on to learn about definite articles and found out that in French there are four words for 'the' (le, la, l' and les). We then used French dictionaries to find out the gender of nouns and write the nouns with their correct definite article.

Today we began to explore our five senses by naming each sense and the part of the body that is to do with each sense. We then focused specifically on our sense of touch. We recapped on the different parts of the hand, including thumb, palm, skin and wrist. As a class, we then discussed what is touch? What happens when we touch something? And is it only our hands that we touch with?

‘Your sense of touch tells you if something is hot or cold.’
We talked about what is safe and unsafe to touch, completed ‘I can feel’ sheets, labeled the properties of these objects and completed a mystery box feely activity.

During our first week in Year 1 we have explored our new provision, both inside and outside the classroom. We have enjoyed making the most of the nice weather and spent lots of time outside practising our counting, making numberlines, writing lists and captions and grouping and sorting objects.
Reception Learning Rules and Routines

This week the children have been busy learning their new classroom rules and routines. The have been learning to stop put their hands up then an adult shakes the tamborine, tidy away the resources they have been using, getting changed into their water proofs, lining up on the grid to listen to instructions and sharing with thier friends. They have a made a super start!
Reception Our first week at school

The children have had a great first week at school. We have been making new friends, learning out rules and routines, exploring the different classroom areas and playing outside in our garden. What a great start to school life.
Year 3- Exploring explanation texts!

This week we have started our new Reading into Writing journey looking at explanation text. We identified and located features in a range of texts and thought about which we may use when writing our own.

Today we started our DT journey. This half term we will be designing, making and evaluating our own pillows. We started the journey by taking inspiration from others. We looked at a variety of pillows and evaluated them based on their purpose, fabric, design and decorations.

This week, we started to look at figurative language. We focused on similes, personification, metaphors, onomatopoeia and alliteration.

Alongside the rest of the school, Year 1 have been thinking about our goals for the year. We discussed how we needed to choose a sensible goal and think of ideas to make a plan for how we are going to get there. We had lots of good ideas and are looking forward to taking small steps towards our goals!

This week, the children in year 5 have had the first of their three summer Forest School lessons. After exploring the wild area and picking all of the fruit from the trees, pupils worked together to build dens, clear the pond area and find small animals that have moved in over the summer. Pupils had a great time and can't wait until next week!

This week, the pupils in year 5 have begun their art journey which is all about typography and maps. Typography is the creation of aesthetically pleasing and legible letters. In this lesson, pupils learned about how printed letter fonts have evolved over the past 2000 years. We then created our own letters using a variety of shapes.

Today Year Two worked on representing the tens and ones in 2-digit numbers using Base 10. We compared numbers with the same digits, such as 59 and 95 to show how the order of the digits makes a difference in the value of the number.

This half term in Year 2 we will be creating our own puppets. To begin our learning journey, we explored a range of different puppets including: glove puppets, finger puppets, marionette puppets and shadow puppets. We thought about the materials that each puppet has been made out of, who might use the puppet as well as the different techniques that were used to join the matierals together. Most of us thought the glove puppets were the best and look forward to making our own in the future.

During our first week in year one we have been grouping and sorting! We have used a number of different objects and talked about what is the same and what is different. We have learnt we can sort by colour, by shape, by type and by size. We have learnt how to log into our own Seesaw account and post pictures of our learning! We have also been exploring our new classroom environment and completing lots of maths challenges in the provision.

We started our history topic by considering the question 'Why do we study the Maya in school?'. After finding out where the Maya lived and viewing some of the ancient sites on Google Earth, we looked for clues in the playground and used our critical thinking skills to decide what made the Maya so special.
Year 2 - Welcome to Bailey's Book Club

Today we welcomed Bailey and her owner Vincent to our school for the first session of Bailey's Book Club in Year 2. Several children had some one to one time reading to Vincent and Bailey the dog, Bailey also came into class and Vincent read a story about a Puppy to the children. Bailey gave out some Word of Week Certificates to the readers and then we had a bit of fun with Bailey doing some tricks with the bubbles!

Year 6 - Introduction to tennis

Today might have been our first day back but we got straight back to it and even got to begin our net and wall unit with a brief introduction to tennis. We learned how to hold our rackets properly and how to control the ball with the racket. We also progressed to sending and receiving accurate passes to our partner.

As part of leavers celebrations, today we went to Stanley Park for a games morning and picnic together. It was another lovely opportunity to spend time together and have fun.
