Year 4 - World Music Day 2023!
Date: 21st Jun 2023 @ 11:47am
Today, we celebrated World Music Day. To start the day we had an assembly to look at the history of the day where Mrs Pope told us that World Music Day originated in France and is now celebrated in over 120 countries on this day every year. Then, we were told our theme. South American/ Latin American music! We studied South American in Geography recently, so we were excited about learning about their genres of music. We start the morning listening to different genres of Latin music such as Samba, Salsa and Rumba. Then we listened to music by Ricky Martin and Shakira. The children used their oracy skills and musical vocabulary to describe the music. We discovered that a lot of Latin music has a fast tempo (allegro), the lyrics are Spanish and the tonality of the music is major. To show everything we learned about Latin America we made collages!

Today we learnt how Noah put his trust in God and read the story 'Noahs Ark.' We discussed the importance of the rainbow as a sign of Gods promise and thought about why people might need reminders of the importance of promises. We learnt that a Jewish person might say that although people often forget their promises, God does not and so they believe that they can always trust in God. We then ordered the story of Noah in partners and recorded ourselves on Seesaw retelling the story in our own words. Finally we listened to the song ‘Arky Arky’ which also supported us to understand the key parts of the story.

Reception- Recycled Water for our Plants
Date: 19th Jun 2023 @ 9:04pm
Since we returned from our break, Reception have been busy making the most of our new water butt and using recycled water to water the plants.
Water is essential not only for us as humans but for the flowers, plants and vegetables too. However, it still costs the school a lot of money and in some parts of the country there is a water shortage. Therefore, in order to value and preserve our most natural resource we have installed two water butts in school. Reception's vegetable plot has been watered using our recycled water and has been very much welcomed by the children, especially on such an extremely hot week.

Today we further developed our understanding of place value for 2 digit numbers, now partitioning numbers up to 100. Together, we identified how many tens and how many ones make a range of numbers within 100, recognising that it does not matter whether we record the tens part or the ones part first, as the whole number remains the same. We then investigated partitioning numbers with concrete resources, such as base 10 and place value counters.

Nursery have been diving under the sea this week as the read the story "Billy's Bucket". This is a fabulous story about a little boy who can see all sorts of sea creatures in his bucket. The children have been thinking about what they would see in their bucket if they had a magical bucket, developing their fine motor muscles by catching fish and threading jelly fsh tentacles and creating their own buckets and sea creatures. We've had a super time under the sea!

We enjoyed all the activities and look forward to continuing practising our skills over the coming weeks.

We had a special visit from a mad scientist, Inquisitive Indie, who came to speak to us about what we put down the toilet! We found out that by putting things we shouldn't down the toilet that we are clogging up the drains. Inquisitive Indie showed us how this happens through some exciting Science experiments, we even got to use dry ice! We found out that we should only flush the 3 P's (ask us what they are!) and we all got our own toilet roll to take home.

We used a website called https://turtleacademy.com/playground to begin our programming journey. First, we learned what different codes mean. For example, FD 100 means move forward 100 steps and RT 90 means rotate 90 degrees to the right. Everyone had a really good go at playing around with it to start. Then we had a go at getting the turtle to move to make numbers. As a challenge, some of us had a go at getting to turtle to write out our initials.

Today we learnt about data and information. Firstly, we learnt that labelling, grouping and searching are important parts of data and information. Through different activites, we then learnt to describe objects using labels, match objects to groups, identify labels for groups and describe properties of objects.
Year 2 Transparent, Translucent or Opaque?
Date: 13th Jun 2023 @ 3:47pm
Today, Year Two began consolidating our Science learning by recapping our knowledge learnt in our Everyday materials and their properties unit. We flashbacked different materials and their properties before conducting an investigation to find the most suitable window for the three little pigs house to ensure they were hidden from the wolf but light would be able to fill the house. We tested a variety of materials and described them using key language transparent, translucent and opaque. We decided the best materials were the ones that were translucent.
