Today we finished our health week activities with a double dose of health. First, the school nurses visited us and taught us about the eatwell plate; after she read us a story about eating the different food groups, we sorted some items into the correct parts of a plate remembering we need to eat the most fruit and vegetables. She even challenged us to create rainbow plates with our meals.
Next, we had a yoga session with Miss Sophie where we focused on our breathing ensuring we were calm and relaxed. Miss Sophie recapped lots of our poses and we enjoyed trying to recreate them.
We have thoroughly enjoyed all our health week activities and we will remember all the ways we can keep ourselves healthy and the importance of it.

We have spent the day exploring patterns, colours and shapes to create moodboards in our sketch books. Our end product for our art this half term was to create mini-world light boxes, where we used our imagination to design a showbox with pictures and sculptures. We also used a range of paper, paint and colours to add detail to our boxes. We then added different colours of cellophane to the lid and shone a torch into each one, giving a small immersive feel to our work.

Yesterday, Year 2 were grateful to have a workshop with Tom from Wigan Warriors. Tom did a stuck in the mud themed warm up which taught us how to hold a rugby ball correctly to ensure an opponent cannot knock it out of our hands before we learnt how to score a tri. In teams, we had to run across the hall and get passed the tri line and tap the ball on a cone to take it back to our team in the style of a relay; to make it more challenging, Tom added some defenders who tried to stop the attackers getting to the tri line. We really enjoyed the activity and we are looking forward to our other activities still to come as part of Health Week.

Year 4 - States of matter consolidation
Date: 26th Jun 2023 @ 4:05pm
Today we did some 'States of Matter' consolidation. We remember lots from our unit earlier in the year! We started the lesson looking at a chocolate bar which Miss Crystal had mistakenly left on the window ledge in the sun. It had melted into a liquid. We put it in the fridge to see if we could change it back to a solid and checked on it at the end of the lesson. It had changed back to a solid but the shape wasn't like the chocolate bar was at the beginning. So we learned that the melting process can be reversed, but it may look different to the original solid. Then we were all given an ice cube and observed what happened to it. We recalled that applying heat to a solid such as an ice cube causes melting to happen. The solid turns to a liquid (water). Next we got a little bit messy. It's been a warm day, so we were all given a piece of chocolate and we had to see what would happen it we just kept it in our hands!

We then began explroing the work of three specific artists and evaluating their pieces. Finally, we created our double page spread, showcasing what we had learned.

Today, to begin Health Week, Year 2 were lucky to have a dance teacher come into School and give us a dance workshop. After completing a fun warm up, we learnt a few basic cha cha steps which could be encorporated into our showcase dance. The teacher introduced our song and set the scene that we were completing a dance that showcases our pride, strength and self-belief. We learnt the timings to a cha cha and then learnt some steps for a paso doble styled dance as it is a powerful dance and that was what we wanted to showcase. We practised the steps lots to the music- I'm a Survivor, trying to remain in time and did a final performance at the end of the workshop. Everyone really enjoyed it and tried their best to get into character. We are looking forward to the rest of health week!

Today was takeover day! With our new teachers we revisited the concept of 1 more and 1 less in the context of numbers from 50 to 100 by applying the counting skills we have previously learnt. We read the story ‘More or Less’ to introduce our lesson. Together, we then revisited the words ‘more’ and ‘less’ reinforcing the fact that 1 more is the number after the given number and 1 less is the number before the given number. We then worked independently to choose a task card, identify the number and then find one more and one less than this number. Finally we played a one more and one less game on Topmarks to show our new teachers everything we had learnt!

Today, we got taken over by some Year 5 children; we started the day with an assembly by our new head and deputy headteacher Miss Bell and Mr Binns to introduce our characteristics of tolerance. When we returned to our classroom our new teachers helped us recap what the different word classes are and helped us complete a sorting activity of different verbs, adjectives, nouns and adverbs. After playtime, we chanted our 2, 5 and 10 times tables before completing some sheets thinking about the multiples of each and calculating multiplication questions. We ended our Takeover morning with Guided Reading. We enjoyed being taught by the Year 5 children although they found it tiring and hard.

What a great morning! Today was Year 5's Takeover Day. In Year 4, our teachers, Miss Shepherd, Miss Lewis and Miss Morrison, taught us lines of symmetry in Maths, how to back up our answers with evidence using the text in Guided Reading and figurative language in Reading into Writing. The teachers were helped out throughout the morning by Miss Roberts and Mr Butterfield. Well done Year 5! You did a great job and showed so many characteristics such as confidence and enthusiasm.

The children in Year 5 had the opportunity to talk about a variety of careers such as Tysons, Eric Wright, different roles throughout the NHS at Blackpool Teaching Hospital, a captain of a ship, Blackpool Business Project Manager and discussing sustainability with Inspired. Kirsty and Ida, from Inspired, kindly donated 100 flower bombs for Boundary to plant too. The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning learning about these different occupations and it has given them an insight into a future that they would like to have for themselves. Another huge thank you to everyone who was involved!

To celebrate World Music Day 2023, Year 5 learned about music from mainland Europe. We located Spain, Italy and Ukraine on a world map and talked about their history and influences. We listened to and appraised music from these countries, and children discussed what they liked and disliked. Pupils then created a page in their art sketchbooks to show what they had learned and how they felt when they listened to the music.

Yesterday, we celebrated World Music Day 2023. Each year group had been allocated a different continent to explore music from and ours was Oceania. We read the story about Tiddalick the frog to introduce the unit and found Australia on the map; then we practised singing the song about Tiddalick and him drinking all the water thinking about the rhythm and pitch of the notes. We then were introduced to a traditional Australian instrument- the didgeridoo and watched a video explaining how to play it before we had a go at making a sound ourselves. It was hard work as we had to try and blow really hard and create the correct shape with our mouths. We also used some other instruments to play alongside our singing. We enjoyed celebrating World Music Day and thinking about how other people across the world enjoy Music.

To mark World Music Day, Year 6 learned about music from South Africa. We located South Africa on the map and then listened to several pieces of music from the couhtry. We learned that music is very important to the South Africans and is used to pass messages and stories between generations. We finished by listening to some more modern pop music that has African influences.
