Year 2's Final Forest School Fun!

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 5:20pm

Today was our final session of Forest School in Year 2 and what fun we had! We used lots of the resources we could find including leaves, flowers and string to create our own stick creations, some of us got creative enough and began to build a den. Other children helped chop up fruits so we could enjoy fruit kebabs by the fire and dip them in some melted chocolate or caramel. We loved our final session in Year 2 and cannot wait until it's our turn next year.

Year 6 - Computing

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 3:01pm

This week in Computing we completed lessons 2 and 3 of our variables in games unit. This involved adding sprites to the program and adding variables for each one so that when they were clicked their values either increased or decreased. We also improved a pre-made game and added a score variable to add up points.

Nursery Find Some Snail Slime

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 10:43am

Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell left us a gift of some slime! The chilldren had a great time exploring the slime and it initiated some wonderful converstaions with the children. They used some great words to describe the slime such as "stretchy, sticky, boingy and bouncy". They were fascinated watching the slime stretch and talked about how long their slime was and whose was longer. The slime also provided a super work out for the childrens fingers with all the pulling, stretching, poking a rolling.

Nursery Meet Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 10:29am

We have been reading a brilliant story called Norman the Slug with the Silly Shell. Norman is a happy little slug until he sees some snails and thinks their shells are amazing! Norman then goes on a mission to find himself a shell and ends up with a doughnut shell! We have been exploring the wonderful sprial patterns  you find on a snails shell. We have made sprials using playdough, drawn spirals and traced over spiral patterns - its a wonder we haven't got dizzy!

Year 4 - Editing photos

Year 2 Floor Robots

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 8:13am

This half term, in Computing, we are looking at algorithms and programming floor robots. Yesterday, we focused on making predictions of where different algorithms will land on the floor robot mats before testing how accurate our predictions were. Finally, we create our own 4 step algorithm and again predicted where it would land before testing how accurate we were.

Year 2 Forest School Fun Part 2

Date: 4th May 2023 @ 7:58am

Last week in Forest School, we learnt all about the Elder tree. We begun the lesson by creating a shelter using a parachute to protect us from the wind and after we came out we went on a hunt to find the only Elder tree in our Forest School area. We then used parts of Elder to use a hack saw to make a small piece and pushed the middle out so we could thread some string through to create necklaces or bracelets. We had so much fun and enjoyed getting creative with the Elder. Those that decided they didn't want to make something had plenty of fun den building and planting some seeds.

Year 1 Wild and Garden Plants

Date: 3rd May 2023 @ 7:11pm

Today we learnt the difference between wild plants and garden plants. We looked at lots of different examples and named these together, talking about how these plants are similar and how they are different. We then sorted some pictures into wild plants and garden plants, using a plant identification key to help us!

Year 1 Counting in 5s

Date: 3rd May 2023 @ 6:48pm

Today we learnt how to count in steps of 5 using different representations, including tens frames, dice and 50 square. We began our lesson by reading the story ‘Starry Arms – Counting in 5s.’ As a class we then practised lots of examples together orally to practise our skills. We continued to use language associated with multiplication, for example ‘there are __ equal groups of 5, there are __ altogether. We answered key questions, including how many groups of 5 are there? What number is this? How many groups of 5 are there in __?

Year 6 - Counter Balances and Counter Tension

Date: 3rd May 2023 @ 2:41pm

In this week's PE lesson, we continued with our gymnastics unit. We focussed specifically on counter balances and counter tension. Working with a partner, we learned that counter balances use a pushing force to create a stable balance. Counter tension uses a pulling force to create stability. We created various holds and learned how to safely support our partner.

Key Stage 2 Multi-Skills team

Date: 28th Apr 2023 @ 2:13pm

A huge well done to our KS2 Multi-Skills team who travelled to Bolton Arena on Thursday to compete in Panathlon's Multi-Skills Regional Final. To qualify for the final, Boundary had to compete against other primary schools across Blackpool, so getting to this stage was a huge achievement in itself.

Out of 7 schools Boundary placed 4th after collecting points in games such as table cricket, bowling, kurling and other target games.

They also had the chance to meet Nathan Maguire, who has represented Great Britain in various events, most recently achieving a silver medal in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. He inspired the children with his story of a major setback in his life and how he overcame it through his love for sport.

Year 4 - How is sound made?

Date: 27th Apr 2023 @ 2:52pm

Today, we learned how sound is made. We started the lesson by closing our eyes and listening for a sound to be made. We then pointed in the direction of the sound. Next, we discussed that we hear sound through our ears. So how does it get there? Using a tuning fork, we hit it against the table and dipped it in some water. Straight away we could feel tuning fork vibrating in our hands and see the tuning fork vibrating in the water. Using the scientific vocabulary on the board we discussed what was going on. Then we made string telephones. We predicted that we would be able to hear our partner because the vibrations would travel as sound waves down the string. We then used rice on a drum and beat the drum to further see and show vibrations from a sound source (this time the beater).

Nursery Plant Some Cress

Date: 27th Apr 2023 @ 11:35am

Continuing with our Growth and Change theme, we have experimented with growing some cress seeds, Instead of planting the seeds in soil, we have used wet cotton wool! If you want to try at home, all you need are some cress seeds, cotton wool, a pot and some water. Put your cotton wool in the water and give it a squeeze (you don't want it to be too wet!) then put the cotton wool in the pot. Finally, sprinkle the cress seeds on top and wait for the magic to happen!
