Nursery Explore Planting Seeds
Date: 27th Apr 2023 @ 11:28am
Nursery have been exploring growth and change and this week we have been learning about planting seeds. We read the story "Jasper's Beanstalk" about a cat who finds a bean and plants it in his garden. We planted our own beans and we really hope they grow in to giant beanstalks! We talked about how to look after our beans and that they need soil, water and sunlight to help them grow. Our planting didn't stop there! We have been very busy planting sunflowers in our outdoor classroom. We also used different construction toys to see who could build the tallest beanstalk - we had some whoopers! We explored shape by making our own Jasper using triangles and circles.

Today we measured and compared the capacity of different containers using non-standard units of measure. We recapped on our understanding of the word capacity and understood that this is how much of something it can hold. We then watched Miss Kay measuring the capacity of a container, making sure the units of measure remain the same and measuring the capacity accurately by filling the container to the top. We recognised that by finding the capacity of different containers, we could work out which containers have a greater capacity and how we know this. We then compared more than 2 containers, putting them in either ascending or descending order of capacity.
Year 6 - Variables in Games lesson 1
Date: 26th Apr 2023 @ 3:35pm

This week, we discussed what a community is. We discovered that a community can be a small group and a large group or area. Then, we made our perfect community and had to reason why we included what we did.
Date: 26th Apr 2023 @ 11:55am
Today, we continued our fractions unit by practicing finding thirds by sharing amounts into three equal parts. We used counters and carefully checked we had split them into equal parts then counted the answer. We used our prior knowledge of finding halves and quarters as well as our division knowledge of sharing equally.
Year 3 Desktop Publishing Invitations
Date: 26th Apr 2023 @ 11:52am
This week in Computing we used our Desktop publishing skills on Google Slides to create Royal Coronation Invitations. We were given specific information then we had to include but we needed to edit the content when we realised there had been a (deliberate) mistake! We changed the font style and colour, page orientation, included pictures and tried to make it look appealing to our intended guests. Here are a few examples of our work so far...

This week we explored how to travel with a ball at our feet with confidence. We began by dribbling the balls around a given area, touching with our big toe and then touching with our little toe. We had lots of chance to practise this and then moved onto manipulating the ball in different directions. We also leant how to stop a ball with our foot and kick accurately to a partner, before playing some dribbling games.

In Year 5 last week, we began our journey learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. We have learned about the structure of the Earth, and how the movement of the tectonic plates can cause various natural disasters. Pupils used their skills from Reading into Writing lessons to match the new subject vocabulary to its correct meaning, so that they can confidently use the correct vocabulary in future lessons. This week, we have labelled a diagram of a volcano and used our map reading and investigation skills to locate 6 of the world's most famous volcanoes and find facts about them.
Year 1 What's Growing outside?
Date: 25th Apr 2023 @ 3:51pm
Today we have discussed that flowers and plants can come from seeds and bulbs. We looked at a range of seeds and bulbs and compared them. We asked questions to begin to understand the difference between them. We also planted our own sunflower seed and gave water to a bulb so that we could start to see it change and grow through our Observational studies.
Reception receive a letter from the Giant!
Date: 24th Apr 2023 @ 5:07pm
This afternoon, Reception received a very exciting letter from the Giant in the story Jack and the Beanstalk. Also enclosed, were a bag of beans to plant. The letter was asking the children if they would plant some beans to grow a beanstalk.
Of course, the children were delighted to do this and couldn't wait to get planting outside with Mrs McAllister.
"I'm going to grow mine so I can climb up it!" Kian.
"First we need soil in a pot" Dolly- Anne.
"We need to make a hole with our finger and put the bean in it then cover it over with the soil so the birds don't take it!" Dillan.
"Don't forget to water it and put it in the sun to grow" Albie.
Reception- Jack and the Beanstalk
Date: 24th Apr 2023 @ 4:58pm
Reception have been reading the story Jack and the Beanstalk. After listening to the story, they were able to retell it using puppets, small world figures and Lego at the storytelling table. Here, they listened to each other, took turns to speak and used words and phrases spoken in the story. They also painted a beanstalk as a challenge and made their own using various craft resources from the creative area.
"Fiee! Fi! Fo! Fum!" Kit.
"Jack's mum was angry because he sold the cow for magic beans" Lennox.
"The beanstalk grew very tall...it reached the clouds...Jack climbed all the way up to the Giant's castle" Ibrahim.

Year 1 How Should We Treat The Environment?
Date: 21st Apr 2023 @ 6:25pm
Today we began to discuss our key question in RE, ‘How might beliefs about creation affect the way people treat the world?’ We began by learning the name of the religion we will be learning about and that Muslims believe there is only one God – Allah. Todays lesson involved learning about how we should treat the environment, why it is important and whose responsibility it is. We did this through looking at images and real life nature examples. We went on a nature walk to collect lots of natural resources and we then used these natural resources to create transient nature pictures.

Reading stories is an important part of the chidlren's learning in nursery and each week we will read an engaging story that the children become familair with over the week. Throughout the week they begin to join in with familiar parts of the story, then begin to retell parts and answer questions about the story. There are always story props avaliable so the children can retell the story. All of this is a great way to develop the chidlren's communication and langauge skills.
Nursery The Hungry Very Caterpillar
Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 8:31pm
We have throughly enjoyed reading the classic story by Eric Carle "The Very Hungry Caterpillar". Through the story the chidlren have learnt about the life cycle of a butterfly, looked at the symmetry of butterfly wings, counted the food the caterpillar ate each day and used the light box to explore the red and green colours of the caterpillar.
Year 2's Summer Forest School Fun
Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 2:57pm
Today, Year Two enjoyed the first of their final three forest school sessions whilst they are in Year 2. Today we began the session by checking on the progress of the tadpoles and thought about where in their life cycle they are at. Then, Jenna and Michelle had set up lots of different dandelion activities for us to do. We could choose from making dandelion patterns on a piece of fabric by bashing rocks onto the dandelions and leaves to leave marks on the fabric, we could make dandelion pom-poms using wool as well as washing dandelions ready for us to make dandelion tea. At the end of the session, we tried the dandelion tea we had made, some of us enjoyed it whilst others thought it tasted disgusting. We are looking forward to continuing our forest school fun next week.
Year 1 Making Our Playground Structure
Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 2:55pm
Today we made our piece of playground equipment according to our design. We looked through our design, describing how we were going to make our playground equipment to each other. We then followed our design to create our playground equipment, thinking carefully about the components, materials and attachment techniques. We then discussed two key questions, ‘what we will do if we come across a problem while we are making our playground equipment?’ and ‘how can we make sure our piece of playground equipment turns out how we want it to?’ Finally, we considered how we were going to stay safe whilst we were working, before beginning to make our final design!
Year 3 - Features of a Discussion Text
Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 2:51pm
In Reading into Writing we have been looking at discussion text and pulling out the features. Today we focussed on rhetorical questions, emotive language and facts/statistics. We completed various activities in teams around the room. By doing this, we upleveled our emotive vocabulary, created a bank of useful rhetorical questions and defined the difference between fact and opinion.
Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 2:45pm
In Science, we started our journey learning about plants. We went to our forest school area and had a hunt for plants. We discussed how these had changed since we were in Forest School in winter and why that might be. When we got back to class, we discussed and recapped from KS1 what plants need to grow. We then went on to planning our own experiement to test what would happen if we were to change the liquid given to a plant. Would this change the growth rate?
Date: 20th Apr 2023 @ 10:33am
Today we completed our final lesson on Tinkercad. We used everything we have previously learned to design and make our own 3D structure. We think our final products are brilliant and use lots of appealing features.
Date: 19th Apr 2023 @ 8:49pm
This half term we are learning about the life cycles of plants and animals. This lesson was about flowering plants and how they reproduce. Pupils learned the difference between sexual and asexual reproduction in plants, and the positves and negatives accociated with each method. Next, we found out about pollination and the importance of insects in this process. Pupils found the names of the different parts of a flower and labelled a diagram, then dissected a daffoldil flower to find the different parts and see what they look like in real life.
