Year 4 - Discovering Tutankhamun's Tomb

Date: 14th Mar 2023 @ 7:04pm

Today, like Howard Carter in 1922, we entered King Tutankhamun’s tomb. What an experience searching around for clues about the young pharaoh. The tomb was extremely dark, so we used torches to make our way round. Once, we had made note of things we had found, we went back to class and started to discuss the sources of evidence that has survived thousands of years and how they were discovered. At first, we watched the opening scene of a film called Prince of Egypt. This showed that the pyramids were built by slaves. We then investigated evidence as to whether or not that is true. There were argument for and arguments against, however overall mainly agreed that that was not true.

Year 4 - Music 'Old Joe Clark' improvising

Date: 14th Mar 2023 @ 6:49pm

We started the lesson with a recap of Old Joe Clark and musical vocabulary such as beat, staccato, legato, crotchet, quaver, minim, semibreve, dotted minim, tone (major and minor) and ostinato. Then we finished our own compositions on our manuscript paper. We composed using all of the notes on the stave, trying to keep 4 beats in a bar, made up of crotchets. We labelled the stave to know which notes to play and practiced our piece with the backing track Old Joe Clark. We then listened to individual performances.

Year 1 Dan Worsley

Date: 14th Mar 2023 @ 6:38pm

Today Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic story telling experience with Dan Worsley. We all used fantastic listening skills whilst Dan told us a very exciting, funny and engaging story 'Junk in the Trunk.' We could all remember lots of details from the story from the brilliant pictures Dan protrayed whilst using lots of description!

Year 1 Disgusting Sandwiches!

Date: 14th Mar 2023 @ 5:20pm

In today's lesson we learnt how to follow instructions to achieve an outcome. We recapped on the features of instructions and how they need to be in the chronological order to make sense. We learnt the importance of checking our instructions and ensuring they have every step included. We then gave instructions to Miss Kay and Mrs Webster, to tell them how to make a disgusting sandwich. Again, we worked hard to give clear and precise instructions. We saw what happens when we weren’t clear and how the end goal wasn’t quite what we wanted! We then designed our own disgusting sandwich and created them, giving us an opportunity to talk through and order instructions before writing our own instructions over the next few days. As these were disgusting sandwiches - we didn't eat them!

Reception- Waste Week!

Date: 12th Mar 2023 @ 9:03pm

This week Reception have been very busy taking part in Waste Week!

They have been remembering to place all waste paper in the brown recycling bag and only use one paper towel to dry their hands. This is so all waste paper can be recycled to make new paper and reduce the cost of paper towels in school.

"We have to use only one paper towel when we dry our hands" Logan.

"Put the paper you have cut up and don't need anymore in the brown recycling bag" Harper.

Waste Week

Date: 12th Mar 2023 @ 8:52pm

It's Waste Week at Boundary and our aim is to reduce the use of paper and paper towels in school.

All paper MUST be placed in the brown paper recycling bag and not the general waste bins. This will ensure ithe majority of paper is recycycled and made into paper again. The Eco Warriors will be checking all the recycling bags and general waste bins to ensure the correct items are placed in them.

We have also stopped using paper towels in the KS1&2 toilets. Hand dryers will be used which are much more cost and energy efficient than paper towels. EYFS will still use paper towels but are being extremely careful to use only one at a time to dry their hands. Although these are made from recycled paper, they are not able to be recycled so it is very important that we are not wasteful.

Year 1 Astronaut Art

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 7:21pm

As part of our Science Day, we also completed some astronaut art to show what we might see if we were to look outside the window of a spaceship. We watched a video to explore what astronauts might see from their spaceship and used that alongside photgraphs to inspire our own art. We used oil pastels and collage to create our pieces.

Year 1 Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 6:39pm

Today, alongside the rest of our school, Year 1 had lots of fun celebrating Science day! We began the day by becoming NASA astronauts! We learnt what an astronaut is, how you become an astronaut and what characteristics you need to have. We then looked at what astronauts wear in space, how they sleep and eat and drink! We watched a short video where astronauts talked about what life is like in space. After this we thought about what we would take to space with us. Then it was time for our Wonderdome experience! We were all amazed and thoroughly enjoyed the space exploration!

Year 1 Neil Armstrong

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 6:24pm

Today, as part of Science day we learnt about a number of different astronauts including Neil Armstrong. We watched a video which explored Neil Armstrongs life and the key events that led up to what he is famous for! We learnt that Neil Armstrong was born in 1930 and his first time in a plane was when he was just 5 years old. We placed key events in his life onto a timeline, including 1969 when he became the first man to walk on the moon!

Year 2 Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 4:20pm

Today, alongside the whole school we celebrated Science Day with our theme of Space and year two were tasked with learning about the sun. We begun the day by watching videos about the sun and learnt lots of facts including: it would take 20 years to fly to the sun from Earth, the sun is the centre of the solar system, Earth orbits the sun and completes 1 full orbit every year and the sun is actually a star made up of gases. We recorded our information on strips of card and stuck them down as sun rays beaming out of our big sun in the middle. Next, we used our new knowledge of obitting to model how the Earth orbits the sun and the moon orbits the Earth and learnt it takes 28 days for the moon to orbit the Earth- our models also helped us imagine the size difference between the sun, moon and Earth. The excitement continued as we visited the space wonder dome exploring stars, the sun, the moon and all the other planets which we named. We also were fully immersed and amazed by exploring what it would look like and feel like in space. During the afternoon, we got more creative listening to two pieces of space themed music- the final countdown as well as Holst Venus and appraised them. We also thought about the similarities and differences between the two pieces of music. Lastly, we ended our exciting day by creating our own sun art using different techniques including pointilism to complete our paintings.

Year 5 - Science Day

Date: 10th Mar 2023 @ 4:05pm

Year 5 have had a fantastic day learning about the 1969 Moon landing, as part of National Science Day 2023.  Pupils watch actual footage of the Moon landing, watched documentary footage and read newspaper articles about the event. We had an amazing oportunity to visit the Wonder Dome, where we were taken on a guided tour of the Milky Way, and beyond, which the children loved. The children then created a space picture, using a variety of techniques including pencil sketches and a watercolour wash.
