Nursery had a super time when the mobile farm visited school. They found out about the animals and what they like to eat and drink and really enjoyed grooming the sheep, goats and donkey. We talked about what happens on a farm, where the animals sleep and how we get milk from a cow and wool from a sheep.

This week Reception have been enjoying Sports Day.
They took part in teams, working together, following the rules and always trying their best.
Take a look at the photos of us cup stacking, speed bouncing, throwing bean bags into hoops, running in the egg and spoon race, competing in an obstacle course and we mustn't forget- welly throwing!

Year 6 have done some brilliant work in their French lessons this half term. Our unit was called ' Le Week-end' and focused on activities that the children might do at the weekend. We learned the correct vocabulary for each activity, language to give opinions and how to tell the time to the nearest five minutes. As always, our lessons covered listening, speaking, reading and writing activities and the children produced great work in each.

Today Year 1 enjoyed sports day! We participated in team races, cup stacking, speed bounce, dome and dishes, welly throwing and bean bag throwing. We all had a fantastic morning and thoroughly enjoyed participating in all the different activities.

Today, Year Two participated in our annual sports day. We completed lots of different activities including: races, speed bounce, welly throw, bean bag challenge, under and over team races, stuck in the mud, speed stack and a rest station where we refuelled with water and had a much needed sit down. Throughout the afternoon, we demonstrated many characteristics such as team work, determination, perseverance and participation and everybody should be proud of the effort they showed. Well done Year 2!

During this half term we have been growing sunflowers for our science topic. We ended our topic by observing over time the changes that happened from seed to small plant, we saw how the plant had grown a stem and some leaves, as well as roots under the soil. We recapped the topics we had covered including evergreen and decidious trees, wild and garden flowers, seeds and bulbs - we have identified, sorted and classified plants. We then used our collaging art skills to create a model flower that included the roots, stem, leaves, petals and flower.

Today we enjoyed a visit from Fisher's Farm and their very friendly animals! We were all looking forward to seeing the animals and finding out more about them. We looked around the different pens and asked the visitors questions such as, 'What food do they eat?' 'How old are they?' and 'How do you care for them?' We even stroked and brushed some of the animals!
Year 5 - Now Press Play: Pompeii

To support the learning in our geography unit : Volcanoes and Earthquakes, the pupils in year 5 completed an immersive experience using the Now Press Play resource. The children were dropped into a story set in Roman times, where they witnessed the deverstating eruption of the volcano which burried the city of Pompeii in 79AD. This also linked to learning about the Roman Empire, which children completed in year 4.

This afternoon we practised our observational drawing skills. We made careful observations of real life objects and used pencils to sketch items that were found on the beach.

Today are children were treated to a visit from Fishers Farm. The children met a variety of farm animals and learned lots about each one. We all had great fun spending time with the animals and stroking them. A lucky few managed to groom some of them too!!

Today, Boundary Primary School were lucky enough to have a visit from Fisher's Farm and Year Two got to spend some time with the animals. We looked around their different pens and asked the visitors many questions about the animals including 'What do they eat?', 'Do they have any other family?' and 'How do you care for the animal?' We were exciting to touch all the animals including: goats, donkey, dog, rabbit, chicken, ducks, cow, lamb, pig and the sheep dog.

Year 6 - The Human Circulatory System

Our Science unit this half term is focusing on the human body and how to stay healthy. We started by looking at the function of the heart before learning about the circulatory system. This week we have learned about diffision and osmosis - the way that nutrients are moved between cells in our body. Although it is a complicated concept. the children conducted an experiment using potatoes to demonstrate how osmosis works, which really helped to deepen their understanding.

Over the past week the children have been reading the story 'The Bog Baby'. The children used air dry clay to make their own models of the Bog Baby. They explored the differetn features of the Bog Baby and mainpulated the clay to make their own creations. The children used the technique slip, score and blend to ensure that all the different parts were attached correctly. When the clay had dried the children enjoyed painting their models. They used a range of different materials at the creative area to make a home for the Bog Baby to live in,

Today the children in Reception have been lucky enough to visit the mobile farm on the Key Stage 2 playground. The children had a fabulous time visiting the different animals including rabbits, chickens, goats, sheep, a cow, a donkey, a pony and Helga the pig. The children enjoyed learing about how a farm works, why it is important to look after the animals and the job of a farmer.

Today we went to Blackpool Football Club's stadium - Bloomfield Road - for the Fit2Go festival. We took part in several activities including dodgeball, dance, netball and circuit training. At the end we got the opportunity to go and have a look at the dressing room where the Blackpool players go before and after games.

We created our final pieces today. We used all the skills we have learned this half term so far including cropping, rotating, cloning and combining. Our brief was to create a book cover for a story about a magical word.

In gymnastics this week we used a variety of equipment to practise our counter-tension and counter-balance. We ended the session by linking some of our balances together with movement.

This week Reception have enjoyed reading The Bog Baby. A story of two small sisters who discover a bog baby (small and blue with wings like a dragon) in a magic pond, and decide to keep him.
We wrote about the story, painted bog babies, created our own using different art resources and told the story at the story table, using puppets.
Next week we will make our own Bog Baby out of clay and construct a home for him.

Ella-Rose wins the National Literacy Trust poetry prize!

During Thursday's assembly, Ella-Rose was presented with a bundle of books by Get Blackpool Reading as she won the National Literacy Trust poetry competition. Here is Ella-Rose’s poem:
"Litter, litter goes in the bin,
To throw it on the ground is a really big sin.
The earth is home to lots of creatures and bugs, they don't come in our home and throw litter on rugs.
Dont sin it, bin it! working together we can win it."
Ella's class were also given their own copy of "The Creature Choir" by David Walliams. Well done to everyone who took part!
Year 6 - Manchester Museum Visit

Today Year 6 went on a trip to Manchester Museum to support their learning so far. This involved areas such as:
Fossils
Dinosaurs
Ancient Egypt
Classification
Evolution
Archaeology
The children had a wonderful time bringing their learning to life and being given the opportunity to observe artifacts from a range of periods of time.

This week year 5 have begun their poetry journey by looking at didactic cinquain poems. After reading several examples, pupils identified the features, layout and language of cinquain poems and discussed what they liked and disliked about them. In this lesson, pupils worked together to create a cinquain poem about a thunderstorm before working with a partner to create a beach-themed poem.

Building on our learning so far this term, pupils composed a tune to play over the top of a 'K pop' backing track, called 'Look into the Night'. The track has a 4:4 time signature and pupils were asked to use a 5 note scale in C. We had a great time creating and listening to our own 'K pop' songs!
