Over the past few weeks some of the children from Reception have been attending ballet club. They have been working extremly hard to practice their ballet dance to the music 'Sugar Plum Fairy'. The children listened carefully, worked as a team and demonstrated lots of our Boundary characteristics. The made sure they pointed their toes and moved elegantly in time to the music. The children performed their dance at our Boundary Budding Stars event infront of approximately 120 parents and carers. They did a very a fantastic job. We are very proud of each and every one of them.

Nursery enjoyed taking part in the whole school Art Day. Our first task was to make the backgrounds for the display that is going to be created from all the art work. The children used sponges, rolllers, tights filled with rice and washing up brushes to create some grass, sky and a road. The rest of the school were using collage to create their art work so we joined in with this by making some collage bugs.

For Art Day, pupils in year 5 were asked to create a collage and drawing of a famous Blackpool landmark. After discussing the landmarks, such as Blackpool Tower and Central Pier, pupils created a page of ideas in their sketchbooks. After that, pupils chose a landmark and found an image of it to reproduce for their final piece of work. The children used a range of materials to make a collage background, before drawing a pencil sketch of their landmark.

This week we have been learning all about shapes in nursery. We have been identifying a square, rectangle, triangle and circle and have started to learn the properties of each shape. The children have explored shape through printing, buildling, sorting and by finding shapes in everyday objects. We have also been looking at how we can arrange shapes to make pictures and have created a rocket and a house using shapes.

To explore our question for this lesson, ‘what is the best habitat for an animal?’ we visited our forest school area. We listened to a sound clip recorded in woodland in the UK at night time, with very blustery winds blowing, birds singing and trees creaking. We recalled what we already learnt about woodland habitats…
They are covered by trees’
‘It is shady on the ground’
‘Lots of plants and animals live there’
We also recapped the names of animals and where in the woodland they might be found. Finally we looked specifically at animals that we might find on the woodland floor before going out into the forest school area to make observations to answer our key question.

Today we enjoyed Art Day! First, we created our inspiration pages using a range of images of trees and flowers. We used the collage skills from our previous art journey to create seasonal trees. We focussed on the colours we would see on these trees during each season and chose one to collage.

Year 6 had a day filled with art and collage. We looked at different art work created using collage before experimenting in our sketchbooks with different types of collage - including ripping and cutting paper. In the afternoon, we worked collaboratively to create collage art work based on famous Blackpool landmarks. The finished pieces are brilliant!

To start Art Day off we were lucky enough to take part in an Art themed Primary Future event. We had 5 attendees and we asked them:
- Do you need to wear a uniform?
- Do you ever work outside?
- Did you have to go to college and/or university?
- Do you work with children?
- Do you travel in your job?
- Do you need specialist equipment?
Once each volunteer answered the questions we had a guess at what their job was. There were some great guesses! Then is was revealed that we had a graphic designer, UX designer, painting conservator, tattoo artist and an upcycling artist. Their jobs sounded super interesting and it was great to speak to them. Afterwards, we researched some more about their jobs.
In the afternoon, we had a Blackpool theme based around Photomontage (collage). We used our cutting and collaging skills to create a beach scene from pictures of food and drink which you might eat at the beach.
Year 4 - Threats to living things
Date: 23rd Mar 2023 @ 1:53pm
After flashing back to recap the five vertebrates we have been learning about, we started to look at how these living things habitats are under threat. Each table was given an area to research, then they presented their findings to the rest of the class.
We researched:
- Urbanisation
- Pollution
- Deforestation
- Natural disasters

Today in computing we have used all that we have learned so far to create name plaques and pencil pots. To do this we had to learn how to resize objects as well as creating holes in objects to allow items to be placed inside. We are really enjoying this unit of work and are looking forward to creating more in the next couple of weeks.

Today, we continued our wheels and axles unit by practicing our marking our skills ensuring we measured our lines accurately to ensure it would fit on our vehicle. Also, we practiced accurately and neatly cutting out our markings ready to be stuck on our vehicle. We are looking forward to beginning building our moving vehicles next week!
Year 3- How are shadows formed?
Date: 21st Mar 2023 @ 4:20pm
In this lesson we looked at the question 'How are shadows formed?'. For our flashback we looked at what the words translucent, transparent and opaque meant. We identified and grouped objects into the different categories. We then went outside to form our inital ideas for how shadows are formed. We then tested a variety of different objects to see if there is a pattern for which objects made a shadow.

Year 6 - Fossils and Evolution
Date: 20th Mar 2023 @ 5:54pm
In today's science lesson we considered the key question: What can fossils tell us about extinct species? We first examined several fossils and then learned how they are formed. We moved on to think about what fossils can tell us about evolution before learning about what is missing from the fossil record. All the children in Year 6 showed great participation and were able to remember lots from our previous lessons.

Today, we investigated a crime. We were told about some tomb robbers and after reading one of their confessions, we had to reunite the recovered stolen items to their tomb owner. We had to use clues from the recovered items to decide what type of person they would belong to and then we read about the tomb owners. Next, we used all the evidence to get the stolen items back to the correct tomb.
Reception- Forest School Holly Class
Date: 17th Mar 2023 @ 10:57am
This week Holly Class have been busy outside enjoying Forest School!
Although the weather was rainy and the ground was extremely muddy, the children had a great time doing Forest Yoga, playing number games and looking at new life in the pond- frog spawn!
Take a look at what we did!
"The frog spawn will turn into a tadpole, then a frog" Dillan.
"The frog spawn looks like little balls" Neveah.
"I found 3 pebbles- I'll put them on number three!" Sheraa.

Today we learnt why Columbus risked his life to journey to an unknown land. We listened to suggestions from advisers and explored how some people advised him to go on his voyage to the Indies whilst others told him to stay. We discussed the arguments, what they meant and what people were trying to tell him to do. We recognised that things may have turned out differently for Columbus and that he didn’t know the outcome when he first set out on his voyage.

Today we celebrated the achievements of Lola and Callum, some of our KS2 Drummers. They achieved Blackpool Music school Medals in Gold and Silver for their committment and learning in drumming. They attend weekly Peri lessons in school and we are very proud of them! Well done!

After planning our investigation last week, Year 3 carried out an investigation on which materials are reflective. We made reflection testers and experimented to see if bubble wrap, DVDs, tinfoil, paper, card, clothing and plastic is reflective. The children then came up with conclusion in groups, as to which material we would use on a reflective strip on a bag.

This week we were lucky to have a visit from Dan Worsley. We looked at the importance of drafting and how we should not give up on the first try. Then we were treated to a Dan Worsley original story, that the children found inspiring, hilarious and creative!

The whole school were exciting to have a science day last week, exploring the wonders of space! Year 3 focused on the moon and explored the phases of the moon, how craters are formed and had an amazing time in The Wonderdome! We were so inspired to ask lots of questions and investigate the moon and space.

In this lesson, pupils in year 5 begun their journey learning about databases. We made our own paper-databases about animals and searched through them to answer questions. We found out that each entry in a database is called a record, and the different information that is recorded is called a field. Pupils then explored an online database and answered questions about the information they found. We learned how to navigate the database using the 'form' view to sort the records by different fields.

Over the last few weeks, children in year 5 have been learning how to find the perimeter and area of rectangles and compound shapes. In this lesson, pupils had to use what they have learned to estimate the area of irregular shapes, and find the difference between their areas.
