This week we have began our Computing unit 'programming and algorithms.' We began our journey by learning what these words mean and how they are used. Our first task was to then sequence a set of instructions correctly and identify the mistakes. We then moved onto describing position and direction using the key words, left, right, forwards and backwards. We used a treasure maze to help us explore direction pracitcally by both following instructions to reach a piece of treasure and giving our own instructions to reach an end goal.

Year 3- Now Press Play Adventure
Date: 23rd May 2022 @ 4:28pm
In Science today we had a great adventure using Now Press Play. During our adventure we discovered a new talking plant. It was our mission to find a suitable environment for it thrive. We discovered it would need sunlight, water, space and the correct temperature in order for photosynthesis to happen.

This week children in year 5 began their project to design and create a device that includes an electrical circuit and a switch. We have investigated and discussed products that are currently available, such as security lights and burglar alarms, and identified how they are turned on and off. Pupils used wires, batteries, bulbs and buzzers to revisit their prior learning about electrical circuits, and also to familiarise themselves with new equipment, like switches and ammeters. I am happy to say that there were a few 'lightbulb moments' and the children are now ready to start designing their own product.

Year 2- How to plant a Sunflower seed
Date: 23rd May 2022 @ 8:04am
This half term in Year Two we have been focusing on our instructional writing. We learnt that instructions need to be clear and precise to ensure that someone can accurately follow the steps to end up with the same result. We decided we would write a set of instructions on how to plant a sunflower seed after learning about it in Science and having planted them ourselves. After we had planned each step from our memory of planting a seed, we then drafted and eventually after a little editing wrote up our instructions in neat. We now know we need to use time conjunctions to make sure people follow the steps in the correct order. Miss Duckworth and Miss Hooson were very impressed with our final pieces and the children cannot wait to bring their sunflowers home.

Over the last couple of weeks Year 2 have been learning the time. We begun by learning to tell the time at 'o' clock and half past before furthering our learning to tell the time at quarter past and quarter to. On Friday, we began to recognise the time to the nearest five minutes. We completed a fun activity placing all the time words around a clock before putting our knowledge to the test in a fun game of bingo. It was great fun to begin practicing our new knowledge and we look forward to carrying on our learning on Monday.
Date: 21st May 2022 @ 7:24am
Today we recalled knowledge from our Islam learning journey and discussed ‘How someone’s religion or beliefs may impact the way they treat the natural world.' We looked at different ways to help look after the environment and the positive effects that this would have. We then painted a picture of how we wanted the natural world to look and to show our own beliefs and values of the natural world and all living things. We discussed what was important to us and thought about ways to help care for our environment or how we could improve it.

In Year Three we had a Design Technology day where we designed, made and evaluated fruit kebabs to make a healthy snack. This involved tasting a range of pre-existing products including pineapple, mango, cantaloupe melon, watermelon and pomegranate seeds. We rated them on taste, smell and appearance. This then led to use designing our own fruit kebab and even considered how to stay safe in a kitchen. Finally we were able to make and eat our healthy snacks!
Year 4 Fit to Go visit Bloomfield Road

Year 5 - Summer with Forest School
Date: 20th May 2022 @ 7:26am
Forest school is back and this time its sunny! This week the pupils continued working towards their level 2 awards, completing several different tasks. After a warm-up activity of 'Hide and Seek meets Among Us', pupils were whittling wood to make a small butter knife, hand knitting scarves with brightly coloured wool, and using mushrooms to light the campfire (without cotton wool). Once we had got the camp fire going, we toasted marshmallows to eat as we discussed what we had learned.

Today we worked collaboratively to sort and compare a range of wild, garden, fruit and vegetable plants as well as evergreen and deciduous trees. We recapped on the key features of each category and what we mean by comparing, e.g. what is similar about them and what is different about them? We asked and answered questions about the parts of the plants including, the leaves, the flowers and the fruit. We used all our prior knowledge about plants to sort and compare the plants in small groups, discussing and justifying our answers to others in our group.
Year 6 Writing about the weekend in French
Date: 19th May 2022 @ 7:52pm
Year 6 have worked really hard in their French lesson today. First we recapped on vocabulary from previous lessons including telling the time and activities that are done at the weekend. The children then learned some new opinion phrases, before translating an email into French and writing their own. Super work Year 6!

Year 5 visit Blackpool Zoo! To further their learning, Year 5 went on an adventure to learn more about the animals and natural habitats of the Zoo. From hearing about the Orangutans (and meeting Cherie who was named after Tony Blair's wife!) to watching feeding time with the elephants, we were all treated to a variety of interesting talks where we were able to learn more about how a range of animals have adapted over time to survive in their environments. It was really exciting to see the Bactrian camels being fed - they don't share with each other very well! Just before lunch we were treated to a sea lion demonstration where their natural ability to balance, swim, jump and dive were all on show - Gloria even demonstrated the importance of recycling our plastic and not throwing it on the floor or in the oceans!
Year 6 - The Circulatory System
Date: 18th May 2022 @ 11:46am
In today's Science lesson, we learned about the human circulatory system. We found out that blood that comes from the body is deoxygenated. It gets pumped by the heart to the lungs where it picks up oxygen. The oxygenated blood then gets pumped around the body. We took our learning outside and created our own model of the circulatory system. We used blue cones to represent deoxygenated blood and red ones to represent oxygenated blood.

Today, we had two visitors from our local church. Jenny and Matt are both leaders in the church. We identified Christian symbols, talked about shared beliefs and values as well as discussing worship. We carried out a fun activity to explain that the Church is one community and all works together! We enjoyed meeting Jenny and Matt and loved the learning we did together.
Year 6 Computing - Programming and Algorithms
Date: 17th May 2022 @ 4:52pm
Today we began our new Coputing topic of animations as part of Programming and Algorithms. This involved using Scratch and coding different sprites to move across the screen. The children used different coding blocks to make the sprites move, make sounds and change costumes. Once the children were feeling more confident with using the coding blocks they were challenged to add other sprites and experiment with how to make the character grow, move, change colour etc.

Last week in our Geography lesson, we focussed on identifying the different threats to the Amazon rainforest and how the animals, people and plants that make up the rainforest are affected by these threats. We worked well in our groups and all got involved!
Year 6 sketching - shading and perspective
Date: 13th May 2022 @ 3:53pm
Year 6 continued their sketching unit in Art by practising shading techniques. The children learned about perspective and used their sketchbooks to practise drawing 3D shapes, before moving onto experimenting with different 3D shapes to sketch buildings and architectutal scenes.
Year 5 are off the Richter Scale!
Date: 13th May 2022 @ 11:54am
In Geography, Year 5 have been learning about earthquakes and tsunamis.
This week, each child was given a different earthquake to investigate and write a non-chronological report about.
We were devestated to learn about how earthquakes and tsunamis impact the world, but were pleased to learn that most countries who experience these often have a warning system.
