We have been reading the story "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and learning all about the life cycle of a butterfly. One day all of the hungry caterpillar's food went missing! The children had to search for the food outside and count the pieces to make sure they had found them all. We also did a bit of problem solving and had to work out how many pieces were left to find. We had found 2 strawberries but needed 4 so we worked out we had 2 more to find!

This week we have began our DT journey and began learning about mechanisms. Today we made levers! For this mechanism we linked our learning to the story Jack and the Beanstalk. We read and discussed the story and we were then ready to turn part of the story into a moving picture using a lever mechanism. We followed each instruction carefully and all successfully made a lever to show Jack and his beanstalk! We recapped on the importance of safety whilst using scissors and putting split pins through pieces of paper and card. We evaluated our finished product and talked about two top tips we could share with other children to make levers!

Some days are a real eclectic mix of learning in nursery! Using open ended resources means the learning can take any direction and results in lots of excitment and engagement! Just today we have explored different ways of painting, the children used tape measures to measure each other and buildings, they made potions and soup using petals and made a car wash for some muddy trucks! Another busy day!

Today we introduced weight and mass and investigated how we can measure mass. We discussed key vocabulary associated with mass, e.g. lighter, heavier and balanced. We looked at a range of examples and highlighted how we know if an item is heavier or lighter by looking at the scale. We orally stated comparison sentences for lots of examples, e.g. ‘the crab is lighter than the shell’ and ‘the shell is heavier than the crab.’ We then moved on to measuring mass using cubes. Using a range of items, we counted cubes into the balance scale to measure the mass of each object. We also then compared difference objects using the balance scales.

It was Science Day last Thursday at Boundary and what a day we had! We focussed on the importance of looking after and reusing our clothes. We carried out an experiment to see which washing detergent would best clean a stained piece of fabric. We stained a t-shirt with black coffee and then tried and tested three different detergents to see which would be the most effective. We discussed how much carbon dioxide is produced throughout the fashion industry and what happens to the clothes and the microplastics they contain when they are thrown away and sent to landfill.

This week we began our Art journey by asking the question 'What is Drawing?' First of all, the children all drew a picture of whatever they wanted and we noticed that everyone drew something different and for different reasons- some children drew something from their imagination whilst others drew real life objects. We then gathered our thoughts about what Drawing actually is and we decided it is making marks on other objects. Finally, we looked at a selection of drawings and discussed where you might use drawing in real life such as fashion designers, illustrators and architects as well as the different types of drawing from line drawing to doodles. We particularly enjoyed looking at the drawings that created the characters of Encanto!
Reception Today Is The Queen's Actual Birthday !
Date: 21st Apr 2022 @ 9:28pm

Year 2 participated in the whole School celebration of Science today. We begun the day by drawing a Scientist before exploring the stereotypes within the subject looking at a Research Engineer called Charlotte Grinyer who had to overcome her mental health alongside her gender to get to the position she is in today. Shortly after, we got to virtually meet 3 people who have a career in a Scientific field; we asked lots of questions to try and guess there job and learnt you can use Science in lots of different jobs.
Then it was our turn to get Scientific as we made our own slime to use in the experiment we had planned to test the stretchiness of the slime. We decided to see how the temperature of slime may effect it's stretchiness so placed one in the sun, one in the classroom, one in the fridge and one in the freezer. In the afternoon, we tested how far each slime would stretch. We had a super day celebrating Science!
Year 1 How should nature be treated?
Date: 21st Apr 2022 @ 7:39pm
Today we began to discuss our key question in RE, ‘How might beliefs about creation affect the way people treat the world?’ We began by learning the name of the religion we will be learning about and that Muslims believe there is only one God – Allah. Todays lesson involved learning about how we should treat the environment, why it is important and whose responsibility it is. We did this through looking at images and real life nature examples. We went on a nature walk to collect lots of natural resources and we then used these natural resources to create transient nature pictures.

Today as part of Science Day we investigated the question, ‘Do our body parts grow as we get older?’ We took a sample of hand spans and foot lengths from children from Reception to Year 6. We then used rulers to measure the lengths of each and recorded our results in a table. We discussed our results and identified any ‘anomalies.’ From these results we then created bar graphs to display what we had found out. We discussed that the anomalies are due to the fact everyone is different and grows at different rates. We also explored this through comparing the hand span and foot length of children in our classroom who are the same age. Overall, we found that almost all of our body parts grow as we get older and generally this was shown in our results. We then shared our learning with the rest of our school in our end of day assembly.

Reception have been helping bringing the bees back into our outdoor area. We used compost, clay powder, wild flower seed to make our very on bee bombs. The children enjoyed mixing them altogether and rolling them into seed balls. Once the sall had dried out in sunn the children threw them into our very own bee bomb meadow to create a wild flower habitat for our bees.
Date: 21st Apr 2022 @ 4:13pm
For Science Day we started by thinking about what a scientists is and looked at key scientists to challenge the steryeotype surrounding what a scientist is. We then were investigating how the length of a shark tells us the age of the animal. We then used this information to see if our height linked to our age and after an investiagtion we found out that this does not work for humans.
Year 3 Forest school fun is back!
Date: 21st Apr 2022 @ 3:55pm
Year Three returned to Forest School today where we measured our shadows, investigated tadpoles and drew with charcole from the firepit. We enjoyed coming back to exploring and working with others and can't wait for the next two sessions!
Date: 21st Apr 2022 @ 12:04pm
Year 6 had a very busy and productive Science Day. We began by looking at scientific stereotypes and how these could be challenged. We took part in a Primary Futures event, where we were introduced to people who worked in scientific roles within our community. We had a chance to guess which job they did and ask questions about their roles. Although all of their careers were different, they all needed scientific knowledge to do their jobs.
We then moved on to learning about the heart and were given the opportunity to dissect a lamb’s heart. We identified the main parts of the heart, including the aortic valve, atriums and ventricles. We finished the day by focussing on plant-based food. We calculated how many food miles different types of burgers created and then designed our own environmentally friendly version.
Date: 10th Apr 2022 @ 7:18pm
Today we took part in our Science Seasons lesson. We learnt all about the signs of Spring, collaboratively disucssing and sharing our ideas as a class. We compared Spring to the others seasons and shared our ideas on how Spring is different to Autumn, Summer and Winter. We then completed a Seasons sort and looked at the effects of Spring on trees. During the afternoon we also completed some observational drawings and paintings of daffodils.

Although the day started off a little wet, it was not long until the rain stopped and the sun came out and what an amazing day we all had at Blackpool Zoo!
Holly class visited the lions, tigers, giraffes, elephants and gorillas. They were delighted to watch the penguins swim under water, they laughed when they saw two orangutans hiding under blankets and even watched a seal lion demonstration.
It was such fun!
Here's a snapshot of our day!
Year 1 Measurement - Takeover Day
Date: 7th Apr 2022 @ 7:18pm
This week we have began to explore measure and the vocabulary associated with height and length. Today, we continued with measurement as part of our Year 5 Takeover Day. Our Year 5 teachers introduced non-standard units of measurement through our input. We recapped on our key vocabulary and the meaning of length and height, before learning how to measure objects using non-standard units. Our independent task was then to measure objects accurately and compare them using language associated with measurement.
Date: 7th Apr 2022 @ 7:13pm
Today, as part of our Year 5 Takeover Day, we read and discussed another Julia Donaldson story...Superworm! Our Year 5 teachers read the story and we all recapped the key events and characters. We asked and answered lots of questions about the story to ensure we thoroughly understood the story line and main events. We then wrote descrptive sentences about the main character. We tried hard to use ‘because’ and ‘and’ to link ideas and to show our best work to our Year 5 teachers!
Date: 7th Apr 2022 @ 5:44pm
Today saw Year 5 take over various roles across School from Class Teachers to Site Supervisors. Year 2 were delighted to have been taught by Miss Norman, Miss McCrae Miss Gabby, Mr Ali and Miss Courtney for the morning. The children were taught about the four different sentence types (Statement, Command, Question and Exclamation) during Reading into Writing and participated in a sorting activity. In Maths, the children practised their 2's, 5's and 10's times tables and completed various questions which revealed a plant at the end if answered correctly. We finished our fun morning with a game of Bingo ran by the new Teachers. The children all did a wonderful job and should be incredibly proud of themselves!
