A huge congratulations to all the Year 5 children who took part in the RSC's performance of William Shakespeare's, 'Much Ado About Nothing'. We were joined by 9 other Blackpool schools as part of the RSC's Associate Schools Programme, which has been created to support pupils in building confidence, resiliance and speaking and listening skills. After several weeks of practising, learning lines and dress-rehersals, the performance was perfectly delivered infront of a packed Grand Theatre in Blackpool. We are all so proud of the children who took part - what a great experience!

As part of our History journey about Christopher Columbus, today we answered two key questions; Did everyone think Columbus was a hero and why should we remember Columbus? We looked at a range of ways in which Columbus is celebrated and ranked reasons as to why Columbus might deserve to be famous. We then selected the reasons we each thought were the most important and wrote a word plaque for a statue of Columbus.
Year 6 Area, perimeter and volume
Date: 17th Mar 2022 @ 8:51pm
In Maths this week we have been working on the last part of our Measures unit. This has involved working out the area and perimeter of a range of squares and rectangles. We were then taught how to find the area of both triangles and parallelograms by using formulae. This linked to our previous Algebra unit. Our final 2 lessons covered finding the volume of cubes and cuboids and solving problems relating to finding missing lengths/widths/heights.

For the first time in a long time, the sun was shining today on our PE session. We are half way through our hockey unit and we are getting much better at moving and passing the ball. We have learned how to perform the Indian dribble and a jab tackle. Today we tried our hand at accurate shooting and then got involved in a competitive 1v1 game called quicksticks. The progress is clear to see and some of us almost managed to beat Mrs. Hamilton. Almost!

Today in Year 1 we enjoyed our History Day! The first question we explored was, why do you think we remember Christopher Columbus? We became History detectives to explore the answer to this question! Clues were placed around our room, as if in an art gallery. We worked in pairs to write simple words that came to mind whilst looking at each clue. We then came back together to collect all our ideas from the clues and images we had seen!
Year 1 Locating continents and oceans!
Date: 17th Mar 2022 @ 8:01pm
Today we recapped the 7 continents and 5 oceans, using our songs to help with naming each. We then had a cut up version of the jigsaw map. We had to use our locational knowledge to rebuild the map and label the continents and the oceans. Whilst working with a partner to rebuild our jigsaw map we answered the questions, where will I place each continent and ocean on my map? Where on my map should this information go? And how can I use my map to plan a journey across the world?

We read a very funny story this week called "Poo In The Zoo". At Iguana eats some fire flies and then is poo begins to glow! We then talked about what a herbivore is and how they eat plants, leaves and vegetables and then created some herbivore poo at the play dough table! Don't worry - any poo involved in this weeks learning was definitely fake!

In December, Mrs Webster asked the School Council if they had any ideas as to how they could help get children more active at playtimes by improving their KS1 playground.
Each school councillor went back to their class for ideas, these were then given to Mrs Webster, and the result was- well take a look for yourselves!

We also learned about Mary Anning, a fossil hunter of the early 1800s and how her finds changed the way scientists viewed fossils. We finished with looking at several examples and discussed what we think was their closest living relative.

Date: 15th Mar 2022 @ 2:35pm
This half term in PE, Year 2 are focusing on Dance. We begun the half term by linking our dance to our Science topic Electricity and did lots of work moving our bodies as if it was full of Electricity. Now we have developed the confidence to move our bodies creatively we have begun to create a dance based on our class novel 'George's Marvellous Medicine.' First we created a bank of adjectives to describe George and Granny before acting these out and adding movement to it; then we got out some different resources and using their magical powers controlling us before we added them to our potions. We are impressed with the children's determination and team work skills and cannot wait to see the final performance.

Date: 14th Mar 2022 @ 7:38pm
Last week in History, we looked at the different reasons as to why Roman Emperor Claudius would have left hot, sunny Italy to invade cold we Britain. We played the part of his advisors and looked at reasons why it would have been a good idea and why it would have been a bad idea to invade Britain. We rounded the lesson off with a good old debate, with some fantastic arguments for both sides, and some well thought out counter arguments from our Year 4's!

This week, our RE lesson was based around the story of Daniel and the Lion's Den. We watched a video explaining what happened to Daniel and we decided to have a class debate. Some of us argued that Daniel should have been sent to the Lion's Den and others argued against that. There was some fantastic collaborative learning, teamwork and well thought out arguments and counter arguments from our Year 4's this week.

Year 2 And I Present to you...
Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 5:28pm
This half term, Year 2 are creating a Presentation based around our learning in Design Technology on Wheels and Axles. To make our presentation, we decided to use Google Slides as it saves the work as we go along. So far the children have learnt the basic skills to turn the Chromebooks on and sign in to their school Google account before moving on to some trickier skills. This week we focused on adding images to our slides to make it more interesting. The children are showing great perseverance and are becoming quite fast at this now! We cannot wait to see the finished presentation.
Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 5:22pm
Today in Year 2, we began to make our moving vehicle that will transport our Fairytale character to their event linking to our current Reading into Writing journey. We began by exploring fixed and free axels and discussed the differences before evaluating which we thought would be the best to use for our own vehicle. We chose free axles and used dowels putting them through a card template to ensure our axle was steady before choosing some wheels to attach to our axle. We then decided blu tac would allow more movement for our wheels compared to glue so secured our wheels to our axles using this. It was really fun but it wasn't always easy and the children showed great perseverance and teamwork to support one another.
Date: 10th Mar 2022 @ 5:07pm
In maths this week the children in year 5 set sail across the Atlantic Ocean on the world-famous cruise liner, Titanic. Using our interactive resource, Now Press Play, the pupils were transported back in time to April 10th 1912, where they were able to stow away on to the Titanic to find their estranged father in New York. After hitting the iceberg, the children had to use their knowlege of fractions and their calculation skills to solve problems and reach the lifeboats before the ship sank into the ice-cold water.
