In our Art journey we have been looking at sculptures, especially those by Anthony Gormley and Michelle Reader. We managed to iron out a few structural problems and will come back bigger and better next lesson!

Last week we had an amazing PSHE lesson which got us up and out of our seats to enjoy the amazing weather we had! Our lesson was all about how diverse we are as a community and all the amazing qualities and attributes that people can bring. Both classes mixed outside and had to find the answers to questions such as 'Find someone who can speak another language', 'Find someone who's parents were born in another country' and 'Find someone who has a different hobby to you'. We learned a lot about each other and our Year 4's worked really well together!

We spent an exciting day making our final product of a pillow! We used our designs to decorate the outside of our pillow with fabric pens, felt and sequins. We then used the backstitch that we had been practicing to attach the fabric together. We had to really concentrate to ensure our thread didn't get knotted and we didn't un-thread our thread. Have a look at some of our final pillows!

Over the last few weeks, we have thoroughly enjoyed learning to sing the song 'The Music Man'. We took it in turns to be groups A and B as to who sang the main verse and who did the Echo of 'What can you play?' After we had practised singing and performing the song, we got the glokenspiels out and played notes A, C, D, E and F. This was a difficult skill to look at the board and try to play the glokenspiels but we persevered and we were getting better with each practise.

This week we began to make our moving vehicles. To make the bodies of our car we wrapped cardboard boxes in white paper. We then used PVA glue to stick the body of the car onto the chassis we made earlier in the journey. After we had glued the body onto the chassis we painted it to our chosen colours based upon our designs. The day after- when our paint had dried we used our marking out skills to mark out windows and used paper and cellophane to create windows and extra things that we wished to put on our car. Some of us even put headlights, brake lights and indicators onto our cars using foiled paper. Some of it was really tricky but we persevered and helped each other and everyone is proud of their finished products.

Our Reading into Writing journey at the moment is all about discussions/debates. We decided that the 'big question' that we would focus on is 'Should Emperor Claudius Have Invaded Britain'? Look familiar? That's becuase it was also a part of our History journey this half term! We decided that it would be a great way to link some of our subjects together so here we are breaking down the 'for' and 'against' arguments to practice being able to write a discussion/debate. Some very compelling arguments being formulated here, Emperor Claudius' adivsors should watch out!

Year 1 Human and Physical Features
Date: 28th Mar 2022 @ 6:51pm
Today we worked collaboratively to explore the definition of physical and human features, famous features around the world and the continent they are located in. We worked together to answer the question, what are the main features of each continent? We were split into seven groups and each group had a pack of images from one continent. We had to sort the images into human and physical features. We then moved around the room until we had sorted the images for each continent. We quickly found that we needed to work effectively as a group, to share reading and knowledge, to help us to sort the features.
Year 3 Does everything cast a shadow?
Date: 28th Mar 2022 @ 3:53pm
In Year Three we have been investiagting shadows. We started the lesson by considering how we cast a shadow, this led us to investigate if everything casts a shaow. We tested a wide variety of materials including bubble wrap, cardboard, paper and the window to see if it casted a shadow. This then guided our thinking into grouping each material into translucent, transparent or opaque!

Date: 27th Mar 2022 @ 7:09pm
Last November, our Eco Warriors from Reception, Year1 and Year2 planted spring bulbs in the pond area of our school grounds as part of the BBC Plant Britain project.
Countryfile Plant Britain wants to get everyone planting in a big, ambitious two-year project where we can all do our bit in the battle against climate change and to help wildlife and our own well being.
All the hard work was worth it because the spring bulbs have now grown and are looking beautiful! They have definitely enhanced our woodland pond area- take a look at our photos.
Year 5 She sells sea shells on the sea shore...
Date: 25th Mar 2022 @ 10:46am
This week, the whole school have took part on in an art day, celebrating the lovely location of Blackpool and one of its most famous attractions... the beautiful beaches! Year 5 were given the art activity of 'Printing', where we had to design a stencil of a shell and use paint to print it. We did this after sharing our thoughts and experiences of beaches around the world that we have visited as well as touching different types of shells that we had in class. When we had finished printing, we used our sketchbooks to practise drawing different shells on beaches.
We had a great art day and learnt so much about the experiences of our classmates. One member of our class used to live in St. Vincent's and the Grenadines so we used Google to look at the beach she used to visit; we all thought it was fascinating!
