🌈 Sensory Spelling Superstars in Redwoods! 🌈

This week in Redwoods, we have been developing our spelling knowledge and memory through a range of fun, multisensory activities.

Research shows that children learn best when they can see, say, hear and do, so we explored our spelling words using lots of different senses. The children enjoyed making their spelling words with playdough, helping them to think carefully about the order of the letters while strengthening their fine motor skills.

We also practised writing our words in glitter, making spelling a hands-on and memorable experience. To reinforce our learning further, we created rainbow spellings, writing each word several times in bright colours. This encouraged us to look closely at the patterns within words and helped the spellings stick in our memories.

The children showed fantastic enthusiasm and concentration throughout these activities. They were eager to explore different ways of learning and demonstrated great resilience when tackling challenging spellings.

By using a multisensory approach, we are building confidence, improving spelling recall and developing a deeper understanding of how words are constructed.

This week in Redwoods, we have been exploring place value, number patterns, and counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.

We have been using a range of practical resources and activities to deepen our understanding of numbers. The children have enjoyed identifying patterns in number sequences and investigating how numbers change as we count forwards and backwards.

As part of our place value learning, we have been partitioning numbers into tens and ones, helping us to understand the value of each digit. We have also been spotting patterns when counting in multiples of 2, 5 and 10, and using these skills to solve mathematical challenges.

The children showed great enthusiasm and perseverance throughout the week, demonstrating growing confidence in recognising patterns and explaining their mathematical thinking. We are very proud of the progress they are making as they continue their journey towards becoming confident mathematicians!

🌟 Building Positive Learning Habits in Redwoods 🌟

In Redwoods, we have been getting back into our school routines and reminding ourselves about the importance of self-regulation and resilience. 😊 We have been learning how to manage our emotions, stay focused and keep trying when we find something challenging. 💪⭐

We have also enjoyed taking part in a range of activities designed to develop our communication, interaction and problem-solving skills. 🗣️🤝🧩 The children have worked together brilliantly, sharing ideas, listening to one another and finding solutions as a team.

It has been wonderful to see the children growing in confidence, developing positive relationships and demonstrating excellent teamwork. 🌈✨ We are very proud of the effort everyone has shown and look forward to continuing to build these important skills throughout the year.

Fantastic First Full Week in Redwoods Class! 🌟

What a wonderful first full week we have had in Redwoods Class! 😊

This week, we have been busy developing our classroom routines and learning how to be more independent in our learning. The children have worked incredibly hard and are already showing great responsibility and confidence in completing tasks by themselves. ⭐

We have also focused on developing positive attitudes towards our work. We are learning that it is important to keep trying, challenge ourselves and take pride in everything we do. We will continue to build on this throughout the year. 💪✨

The children have enjoyed working collaboratively with their classmates, sharing ideas and supporting one another. It has been fantastic to see new friendships forming and teamwork developing across the class. 🤝😊

In our maths learning, we have been exploring place value and have impressed everyone with our growing understanding of numbers. 🔢

We have also enjoyed reading the wonderful stories "The Colour Monster" and "Super Duper You". These books have helped us think about our emotions, celebrate our unique qualities and learn more about ourselves and others. 📚🌈❤️

We are so proud of how well the children have settled into Redwoods Class and look forward to another exciting week of learning ahead! 🌟🍎

🌳 Redwoods Class Blog – Healthy Sandwich Fun! 🥪😊

This week in Redwoods Class, we have been learning all about health and safety when preparing food 🧼✨. We discussed the importance of washing our hands 👐, keeping our work areas clean 🧽 and using equipment safely 🔪.

Before making our sandwiches, we talked about our favourite healthy fillings 🥗🍅🧀. The children had some great ideas, including cheese 🧀, ham 🥓, cucumber 🥒 and tomatoes 🍅. It was lovely to hear everyone sharing their preferences and making healthy choices 💚.

We then had lots of fun making our own sandwiches for snack time 🥪😋. The children followed the safety rules carefully and showed excellent independence and teamwork 🤝.

Everyone enjoyed eating their creations and was very proud of what they had made 🌟👏.

🌳 Redwoods Class Blog – Terrific Toothpick Towers! 🗼✨

This week in Redwoods Class, we have been busy building amazing toothpick towers 🪵🦷 after learning all about the famous Blackpool Tower 🗼🌊!

We looked closely at pictures of the tower 📸 and talked about its structure, noticing the different shapes that help keep it strong, especially triangles 🔺. The children were fantastic at spotting these shapes and explaining why they might make the tower sturdy 💡👏.

Using toothpicks and marshmallows, we worked hard to design and build our own towers 🏗️. The children showed great creativity 🎨 and problem-solving skills 🧠 as they experimented with different shapes and structures. Some towers were tall and thin, while others were shorter but very strong 💪.

We also worked brilliantly together 🤝, sharing resources and helping each other improve our designs. It was wonderful to see such teamwork and determination 🌟.

This week in Redwoods Class, we have been having lots of fun playing a variety of games both indoors 🧩🏠 and outdoors 🌳⚽. Alongside the enjoyment, we have been focusing on an important skill — learning how to share and take turns 🤝⏳.

Inside the classroom, the children have been playing board games 🎲, construction games 🧱 and small group activities 👧👦. They have been practising waiting patiently ⏰, listening to each other 👂 and celebrating one another’s successes 🎉. It has been wonderful to see how well the children are beginning to understand fairness ⚖️ and cooperation 🤗.

Outside, we have continued our learning through active play 🌞🏃‍♂️. Whether taking turns on equipment 🛝, playing team games 🏀 or sharing resources 🧺, the children have shown great progress in working together. They are becoming more confident in communicating with their friends 💬 and solving small problems independently 🧠✨.

We are very proud of how the children are developing their social skills 🌟 and supporting one another during play. Well done, Redwoods! ⭐👏

🌍 Redwoods Class Blog – 3D Planet Sculptures 🚀

This week in Redwoods class, we had an exciting and creative time making 3D planet sculptures using paper mache 🎨🖐️. The classroom was buzzing with energy as we transformed simple materials into impressive models of planets from our solar system ✨🌌.

We had to show lots of resilience and patience 💪😊, especially when building up the layers of paper mache. It took time for each layer to dry properly before we could add the next one ⏳, but we didn’t give up. Our hard work really paid off in the end 🌟.

Once the sculptures were ready, we carefully painted them 🎨🖌️. We chose planets such as Neptune, Earth and Venus 🟦🌍🟡, making sure to use the correct colours and details. The finished results look fantastic and we are very proud of what we created 😄👏.

Redwoods Space Theme – A Blast Off into Learning! 🚀🌌

This week in Redwoods class, we launched our exciting space theme for the half term! 🌍✨ The children began by learning about the Artemis 2 Mission 🚀, focusing on how the spacecraft re‑entered the Earth’s atmosphere 🔥. We explored what this experience might have been like for the astronauts and discussed the emotions they may have felt, including excitement 😄, nervousness 😬 and relief 😌.

During Lego Therapy 🧱, the children used their creativity and teamwork skills to imagine what the surface of a Lego planet 🪐 might look like. They shared ideas 💬, built together 🤝 and explained their thinking, developing both communication and problem‑solving skills 🧠.

To finish the week, the children designed their own astronaut badges 🎨🧑‍🚀, carefully choosing symbols and colours to represent themselves as space explorers ⭐. The results were fantastic and showed great imagination!

We are really looking forward to continuing our space journey over the coming weeks! 🌠🚀

🚀🌕 Redwoods Explore the Artemis Mission! 🌕🚀

In Redwoods, we spent some exciting time today watching the Artemis rocket launch to the Moon 🚀🌕. The children were fascinated as they learned all about what it takes to be an astronaut 👩‍🚀👨‍🚀, explored what the Artemis spacecraft looks like inside 🛰️, and discovered how long the mission will last 🕒.

Everyone showed lots of curiosity and enthusiasm, asking brilliant questions and enjoying learning about space and exploration ✨⭐. It was a fantastic experience that inspired lots of interest and excitement about the Moon and beyond! 🌌🌟

🐣🌸 Redwoods Easter Fun! 🌸🐣

The Redwoods class has been very busy enjoying lots of fun and creative Easter activities over the past few weeks! 🐰✨

We started our celebrations by making Easter crispy cakes 🍫🥄, and the children absolutely loved getting involved. They carefully measured the ingredients, mixed everything together, and most importantly, enjoyed tasting their delicious creations at the end! 😋 It was a great opportunity to practise independence skills and follow simple instructions.

The children also had fun making Easter cards 🐣💌 to take home. They worked hard choosing colours, patterns, and decorations, showing fantastic creativity and lots of pride in their work. Each card was unique and beautifully made 🎨✨.

Alongside this, we explored a wide range of creative Easter crafts 🖍️✂️, including painting, cutting, sticking, and collage activities. These hands‑on experiences helped develop fine motor skills while encouraging imagination and self‑expression 🌈.

It has been wonderful to see the children so engaged, smiling, and working together throughout these activities 😊👏. Well done, Redwoods, for all your hard work and creativity – you have had a brilliant Easter‑filled time! 🐰🌷🥚

This half term, Redwoods Class have been focusing on one very important skill: working together. Whether collaborating on creative projects, solving tricky challenges or simply supporting their friends, the children have shown fantastic teamwork, communication, and social skills. 💬🤗

Throughout the term, pupils have taken part in a wide range of group activities, all designed to help them practise listening, sharing ideas and cooperating with others. They have:

Redwoods Class have been busy unleashing their creativity this week as they designed and made their very own brilliant bug art! Using paint pens and a range of collage materials, the children created an amazing collection of colourful creatures. 🌈✨

From spiders 🕷️ and ladybirds 🐞 to butterflies 🦋 and beetles 🪲, every child produced a unique bug bursting with personality. The children experimented with patterns, textures and colour combinations, showing fantastic artistic flair and imagination.

It was wonderful to see how confidently they used the materials — layering collage shapes, outlining with paint pens and adding tiny details to bring each bug to life. No two creations were the same, and the classroom quickly filled with a vibrant swarm of beautiful, eye-catching artwork. 🎨💛

Redwoods showed brilliant focus, creativity and pride in their work, and their finished pieces look absolutely fantastic!

This week, Redwoods class have been busy becoming eco‑engineers! 🌍💡 The children designed and built their very own bug hotels using recyclable materials, helping us learn about sustainability while supporting the mini-beasts living in our school grounds. 🍃🪵

Working in teams, the children planned their designs carefully ✏️📐, thinking about what different insects might need to feel safe and cosy. They selected materials such as cardboard tubes, pinecones, sticks, plastic bottles and paper scraps ♻️📦, showing fantastic awareness of how everyday items can be reused instead of thrown away.

Throughout the project, Redwoods demonstrated wonderful teamwork, creativity, and communication 🤝🎨💬. They shared ideas, listened to one another, and worked together to bring their designs to life. It was brilliant to see everyone so engaged, focused and proud of their creations! 😄👏

Our finished bug hotels are now ready to be placed outdoors 🌳, and we can’t wait to see which creatures decide to check in! 🐛🐞🕷️

This week in Redwoods Class, we enjoyed taking part in LEGO Therapy sessions all about robots 🤖🧱. We worked together to build robot models, taking turns to give instructions, find the bricks, and put the pieces together 🤝. Everyone tried hard to listen, share, and communicate kindly 💬✨. Our robot creations were imaginative and each one looked different 🎨. We were really proud of how well we worked as a team and how much fun we had while building 😄👏.
