Today we were lucky enough to start the day off with a fantastic performance from Travelling by Tuba. They took us on a journey around the world, showing us instruments from around the world and explaining the history of instruments and how theyhave developed into what we have today.
We then attended a workshop with Travelling by Tuba where we were all given an instrument to learn how to play. We all learnt our set rhythm and came together as an ensemble to perform our piece. We had a fantastic day linking Music, History and Geography!
Dan Worsley's Storytelling Assembly

Today the children in EYFS and Key Stage one participated in a special storytelling assembly led by one of our school's favourite author's Dan Worsley. During the assembly, Dan put on the superpowered storytelling waistcoat and used a variety of props to perform one of his weird and wacky ‘Impossible Tales’. The children were engrossed while Dan took them on an adventure meeting the 'Boss Pirate' and enjoyed thoroughly enjoyed participating at different of the story . All the children listened carefully and were an absolute credit to Boundary.
Year 2- A visit from Dan Worsley

Today, after a story telling assembly, we were joined in class by author Dan Worsley who worked with us with our descriptive writing. We came up with our own penguin character, taking inspiration from 'And Tango Makes Three' and used adjectives and similes to describe it. Some of us even got to put on Dan's special story telling jacket and share our ideas with the class.

Today, we used lots of different things we would find in nature such as leaves, flowers and rocks to create our own patterns. We thought carefully about lines we wanted to create and different shapes we could make by pulling things apart and changing them.

Today, we continued our Maths unit of shape by using our knowledge of the sides and vertices on 2D shapes to draw them accurately. We used the geoboards to help us make the shapes as regular as we could before drawing them in our books.
Year 2- Where in the world am I?

This week, we began our new Geography unit 'Continents and Oceans'. We started by recapping our learning from Year 1 focusing on the United Kingdom before looking at Google Earth at where we are in the world. We started really small with us at school and kept zooming out to explore: which town we live in, the closest city to us, the county we live in, the country we live in, the continent we are in and finally which hemisphere of the globe. We loved looking at Google Earth and learning about our place in the world.

Today we started our new Art journey by looking at Alice Fox and thinking about how she uses nature to influence her work. We then created a page dedicated to Alice Fox in our sketchbooks. We were inspred by her work, information about her, nature and colours that she would use.

Today, we celebrated our Christmas party. We came in our fancy party clothes, enjoyed a drink of juice in the classroom, did lots of dancing, played some party games such as pin the nose on Rudolph and pass the parcel and EVEN got a very special visit from Father Christmas himself! We had a great time celebrating together and wish everyone a fantastic Christmas!

Today, we have created art based around Nativity. The children used watercolours to create a stained glass window effect. After, we reflected on the Nativity story and the true meaning behind Christmas for Christians.

This half term we have been looking at architecture. We began our Art journey by exploring what architecture is and we looked at the work of Hunderwasser. We learnt that he liked bright, colourful buildings and would often use topsy turvy designs. We then designedour own buildings and chose a colour palette for our building. Over the last couple of days, we have been building, painting and decorating our houses ready to evaluate.
Year 2- Christmas Jumpers, Elf Run and festive lunch

Today, Year Two celebrated all things Christmas. We wore our Christmas jumpers for our annual Christmas lunch and completed the Elf Run to raise some money for charity. We enjoyed the festive activities and loved our delicious lunch!
Year 2- Writing a Christmas Story

Year Two are beginning to write a christmas story based on the John Lewis advert Excitable Edgar. So far, we have immersed ourselves in different stories that have been told through a variety of Christmas adverts including the Christmas truce, Monty the penguin and the man on the moon. Throughout, we have discussed the problem and solutions for a story, main characters and the different settings. We noticed, good stories have lots of descriptive language so through our GPS sessions we have explored using adjectives to describe characters and settings as well as adverbs to describe actions. We are looking forward to planning and drafting our final stories.

This half term, Year Two have been exploring Opera and used it to retell the story of Hansel and Gretel. Throguhout the unit, we have listened and appraised a variety of different songs before learning them and practicing singing together in unison. Also, we explored body percussion and used it to add into pauses and instrumental sections of songs in time to the beat.

Today, we celebrated no pen morning by completing activities without picking up any writing devices. In Reading into Writing, we began our Christmas story unit by immersing ourselves in a variety of christmas adverts that tell a story. We enjoyed watching the adverts before discussing who the main characters were, what the problem and solution were in the story as well as generating adjectives to describe characters and settings. In Maths, we explored adding two 2-digit numbers using base 10 and place value counters to help us; we learnt we need to add the ones first to help us in the future when it crosses a ten.

Last week, we had a visit from the Fire Service who came and talked to us about all the ways they help in the community. They taught us what to do if we accidentally caught on fire and what to do if there was a fire in the house including how to get out safely. We were tasked with testing our smoke alarms and checking they all work to help keep us safe. We really enjoyed learning about how to keep safe.

Today, we were joined by some parents for our Maths lesson. We completed a problem solving activity using our knowledge of number bonds to 10 to form a big triangle. We were then challenged to create our own puzzle using number bonds to 20 for a friend to complete. Thank you to the parents who joined us, it was lovely showcasing our learning with you.

Year 2- Investigating the trenches from WWI

Today, we used the Chromebooks to improve our digital literacy skills to label what life was like in the trenches. We used our previous knowledge and new learning to think about items in a trench, how soldiers spent their time and what the conditions were like.
Year 2- Conducting a cracking experiment!

Today, we conducted an experiment to test the investigation to find out 'which material best protects an egg?' We wrapped a small egg in different materials of the same size and dropped it from a 1m height. We made sure we used the same amount of materials, dropped the egg from the same height and dropped it onto the same surface. We found the plastic tub best protected the egg from a fall as nothing happened to the egg where as the other materials cracked or completely smashed the egg.

Today, we showed our support for Children in Need by changing one part of our uniform for something spotty or stripy. During always time, we did some activities related to Pudsey and children in need including colouring, Pudsey problem solving and word searches. In assembly, we thought about why we support Children in need as well as how the money we raise helps children around the UK.

Today, Year Two celebrated Remembrance Day by participating in our whole school service thinking about why we conduct a minutes silence and why we remember those who have/are fighting in battles around the world. We also drew and painted our own poppies and planted some poppies in our Remembrance Garden- each poppy had a soldiers name on it to remember those who lost their lives in WW1.

This week, Year 2 celebrated anti-bullying week alongside the whole school. After a whole school assembly, in class we looked at what respecting others look likes, feels like and sounds like. We also explored the difference between friendly joking, teasing and bullying and identified these from a range of scenarios discussing what the differences are. Today, we all wore odd socks to celebrate that everyone is different and this is a great thing!

As we continue our Maths journey through addition and subtraction, today we used counters to help us understand adding by making 10 and using it to help us make calculating numbers easier. We made two one-digit numbers with counters using two different colours before we moved some counters up using our number bonds to create a 10 and an easier calculation to work with. Tomorrow we will use this to help us do it abstractly as we will have a good understanding of how it works.

This week across school we have been celebrating Anti-Bullying week. We started the week off with the a whole school assembly based around this year's theme ‘Choose Respect’. Throughout the week the children have been learning about being respectful and why this is such an important skill for life. Alongside this they have also been exploring the theme of bullying including what it means, different types of bullying, what to do if you are being bullied, the difference of a bystander and upstander, how to solve conflicts and what discrimination means. We finished of the week by inviting everyone to wear odd socks to celebrate everyone’s differences and promote kindness. What a fantastic week we have had!

Today we immersed ourselves into different examples of letters. We recapped some of the key features and tried to identify them in a range of letters including: the sender, the receiver, the reason for writing and any questions the sender asked. We also found the senders address on each letter.
