Year 2 Elm- Making our moving vehicles!
Date: 2nd Apr 2026 @ 3:48pm
This week, Year 2 have been busy engineers in the making as they created their very own moving vehicles in Design Technology! π§°π¨
The children began by exploring different types of wheels and axles, learning how real vehicles move and what helps them travel smoothly. ππ They sketched ideas, planned their designs, and thought carefully about which materials would be strongest and most effective. π‘π
Once their plans were ready, it was time to get building! π οΈ
With cardboard boxes, dowels, bottle tops, tape, and plenty of imagination, the classroom quickly transformed into a buzzing workshop. The children worked brilliantly — measuring, cutting, attaching wheels, and testing how well their vehicles rolled. ππ¨
There were racing cars, buses, monster trucks, and even a few creative inventionswe’ve never seen before! πππ
The pride on their faces when their vehicles moved for the first time was priceless. ππ
A huge well done to all of Year 2 for their brilliant teamwork, resilience, and creativity throughout this project. π
We are so proud of the skills they are developing as designers and makers! π§©β¨
Keep an eye out — you may see some of our future engineers on the roads one day! πβ€οΈ

π Year 2 PSHE: Learning About Personal Safety & Trusted Adults π
This week in PSHE, Year 2 took part in an important lesson all about keeping ourselves safe and understanding our personal boundaries. π§‘β¨
We talked about the difference between appropriate and inappropriate touch in a simple, ageβappropriate way, helping children to understand that their body belongs to them and that everyone has the right to feel safe and comfortable. ππ
The children learned that:
- β Some touches are kind, helpful, or part of everyday life
- β Some touches make us feel uncomfortable, confused, or worried
We discussed that if something doesn’t feel right, they have the right to say “no”, move away, and tell someone they trust. π£οΈβ
Together, we also created a list of trusted adults who can help keep us safe — at home and at school. π¨π©π§π¦π«
This included parents, carers, teachers, support staff, and other grownβups they feel comfortable talking to. π
The children showed great maturity and thoughtfulness throughout the lesson, joining in with discussions and sharing ideas about keeping themselves and others safe. π¬π€
We are very proud of how sensibly Year 2 approached this topic. ππ
They are building important life skills that will help them understand their own boundaries and know who to turn to if they ever feel unsure. π
Date: 2nd Apr 2026 @ 3:43pm
We wanted to say a huge thank you to all our wonderful parents and families for the fantastic Easter egg entries this year! π₯π¨π°
The creativity, colour, and imagination on display were truly amazing — every single entry brought so much joy us. πβ¨
Your support and enthusiasm make these events so special for the children, and we’re incredibly grateful. π
As we wrap up the term, we’d like to wish you all a very Happy Easter and a relaxing, wellβdeserved break. π·ππ
We hope you enjoy some time to rest, recharge, and hopefully enjoy a bit of sunshine too! βοΈπΌ

π Spelling Bee Success! ππ
Today, our school was buzzing with excitement as children from Year 2 to Year 6 took part in our annual Spelling Bee! πβ¨
Over the past few weeks, pupils have been working incredibly hard to learn their spellings. From tricky letter blends to confident articulation, they have shown real dedication. πͺπ§
When the moment arrived, each participant demonstrated remarkable resilience and courage. Taking the stage in front of the whole school is no small task, yet our spellers stood tall, spoke clearly, and gave it their very best. π€π
We are incredibly proud of every child who took part. Their effort, determination, and enthusiasm made today a wonderful celebration of learning. ππ
A huge well done to all our super spellers! πβ

π΅ Year 2 Music Update: Singing All Around the World! πβ¨
Our Year 2 pupils have had a wonderfully musical half term so far! πΆ From developing their singing voices to exploring rhythm, pitch, and teamwork, the children have been busy building their confidence and creativity in every lesson.
One of the highlights has been learning our new song, “All Around the World” — a lively, joyful piece that the children have absolutely loved! π
π Singing in Canon: A New Challenge
This term, the year have been learning how to sing in canon — a fun and slightly trickier style of singing where different groups begin the same melody at different times. It’s a bit like a musical waterfall trickling in layers! π΅β°
The children have done brilliantly with this challenge. They’ve listened carefully, kept in time, and learned to trust their own group while also being aware of everyone around them. These are such valuable musical skills — and they’ve shown fantastic teamwork too! ππ€
πΆ Preparing for Our Music Concert
We are so excited to share this song with you at our music concert next half term! π
The children can’t wait to perform and show off all the progress they’ve made. It’s a beautiful moment watching them beam with pride as their voices weave together in harmony — and we know you’ll feel just as proud when you hear them! π«
Year 2- Birch's Adventure to Blackpool Zoo!
Date: 27th Mar 2026 @ 11:23am
π Year 2 Adventure to Blackpool Zoo! π
What an exciting day our Year 2 children had on their fantastic trip to Blackpool Zoo! πΎπ From the moment we arrived, the children’s faces lit up with curiosity and enthusiasm, ready to explore the wonderful world of animals.
π¦ Amazing Animal Encounters
We enjoyed discovering a huge variety of animals—majestic lions, mischievous monkeys, towering giraffes, and many more! The children were full of brilliant questions and loved sharing what they’ve been learning in Science about animal groups and habitats. Their knowledge really shone through! β¨
π§ A Day Filled with Learning and Wonder
As we moved around the zoo, the children had plenty of opportunities to make connections to their classroom learning. They impressed us with their observations, teamwork, and wonderful behaviour throughout the day. All the adults were incredibly proud! π
π Spotting Braille Around the Zoo
One unexpected highlight was how many children excitedly noticed Braille signs around the zoo. π
This linked perfectly to our current History unit, where we’ve been learning all about significant people who changed the world—including Louis Braille.
The children loved being able to spot real-life examples of Braille and explained confidently how it helps people with visual impairments access information. What a fantastic way to deepen their understanding beyond the classroom! ππ
π A Brilliant Day Out
After a full day of exploring, learning, and lots of walking (and snacking! π), we headed back to school tired but happy. It was a day filled with memories, discovery, and excitement.
Thank you to all the staff who supported the trip—and to you, our parents and carers, for your continued support. β€οΈ
We can’t wait for our next adventure together!

Date: 18th Mar 2026 @ 2:02pm
This half term Year Two have been completing ‘eat well and move’ sessions. These have looked at making healthy choices when eating and fun physical activities. We have also looked at the importance of teamwork and collaboration.
Year 2- Designing our moving vehicles!
Date: 18th Mar 2026 @ 2:00pm
Today we began designing our moving vehicles. We thought about the data that we had collected from reception and considered this carefully when picking the detail, shape, colour and size. Some children thought about creating imaginative designs such as ice cream vans, police cars and lorries! We can’t wait to see their ideas come to life!
Date: 18th Mar 2026 @ 1:56pm
For together time, we carried on our history learning. We started with a quiz all about Louis Braille to see what facts we could remember. We then tried to decode messages that were written in braille. We found this challenging and spoke about how long it would take to learn to read and write in braille. We then used what we had learnt to write our names using braille. Throughout our learning we have spoken about how important braille’s creation was and how it has supported blind people for many years.
Date: 18th Mar 2026 @ 10:11am
Today was Science Day across school! Our theme was curiosity and we explored this by asking and answering scientific questions. We started the day with an amazing workshop where we explored many practical ways of exploring scientific questions! We even fit inside a giant bubble!
Date: 12th Mar 2026 @ 3:43pm
Today we explored fixed and free axels. We practised making both axels and tested which moved best and which would be more suitable when making our moving vehicle. We decided that the free axel meant the car could turn better and move faster.
Year Two- Understanding multiplication !
Date: 12th Mar 2026 @ 1:44pm
In Maths, we have completed a range of practical activities to help our understanding of mathematical concepts. This week we looked at creating equal groups by sharing and by grouping.
