This week, we have been creating our art work linked to Remembrance Day. Our challenge was to create water colour poppies to add to old photos of Blackpool during WWII. Before we did this, we had to be confident with using water colour paints and how to use them effectively. We practised using correct techinques in our sketchbooks and then used this to create our own poppies.

In preparation for Remembrance Day over the weekend, we have been busy doing an art activitiy to make poppy art. We have spoken about why we celebrate Remembrance Day and practise a new medium using clay in art. Year 3 created the background of our clay art using charcoal. We have also been looking at some famous Remembrance poems and some children have used their best handwriting to rewrite them.
Whole School Remembrance Assembly
Date: 6th Nov 2023 @ 3:38pm
This morning's assembly was all about Remembrance. We looked at how Blackpool was affected in the war and what went on in Blackpool during those time. For example, soldiers came to Blackpool to train on the beach.
We also had a fantastc BLT returned this morning! A poppy garden.
Date: 2nd Nov 2023 @ 8:48pm
To start our History topic of Remembrance, we recapped on our prior learning in History so far.
We worked in groups to create a timeline of personal events and those we have studied from Year 1. We ordered them from the earliest to the most recent.
We discussed that although it seems a long time age since we started school, it was the most recent event as it only happened 2 years ago.
As our next topic is based on the events of World War I, we looked at where that will fit in on the timeline.

This half term, Year 2 are learning about Remembrance. Before, remembrance day we are creating poppy art from observational drawings. We followed a video and different pictures to draw our own poppy then we carefully painted them the correct colours. When they are dry we will cut them out and stick them onto a black and white picture of Blackpool during the war.

We were invited to take part in two fun festivals within Blackpool Zoo where each school will be given a map of the park to help them to solve the clues to find the right animals.
The children, chosen from Year 5, had a great morning with Mrs. Millar and Mr. Parsons supported by Leaders from Blackpool Sixth Form. Efficient map reading and a keen sense of time meant that we returned to the finish before the other schools – leaving us enough time to visit some of the animals not on our list (and the dinosaurs too!).
Year 4 - What did the Romans do for us?
Date: 17th Oct 2023 @ 10:23am
During No Pen Morning, we investigated what legacies the Romans left behind. We were tasked with finding two red herrings in our investigating too. We couldn't believe how much the Romans brought to Britain during their time here and what we still use today!
Date: 16th Oct 2023 @ 9:35pm
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 4 have been celebrating Black History Month in our PSHE and Reading into Writing lessons. This year, the main theme of Black History Month is 'Celebrating our Sisters.' Furthermore, our year group focus was sporting achievements. Therefore, in PSHE, we researched a range of Black British Women athletes who have made a significant impact on the sporting industry. We then used this to create our own artwork. This allowed us to discuss key words, such as diversity and culture, and emphasise the importance of appreciating similarities and differences between everyone.
In Reading into Writing, we have been working towards writing a non-chronological report about Lauren James. Firstly, we looked at some existing non-chonological reports about Lauren James before researching interesting facts about her early life and football career, including her biggest achievements. After this, we collated these facts into our own non-chronological reports.
We have found it very interesting to learn about all of the incredible Black British athletes and their amazing achivements and impact they have had on our history.

In today's history lesson we were given a mystery to solve. We were told the story of an archaeologist called Alberto Ruz, who spent time searching through Maya temples in the 1940s. In one of the temples he found evidence of a secret area under the base of the temple. After a long time trying to get into the space, he eventually opened up the hatch to reveal the resting place of the great Maya king Pacal. The children had to work out who this person could have been based on evidence from the tomb.

Year 4 - How were the Romans able to keep control over such a vast empire?
Date: 26th Sep 2023 @ 4:06pm
This week, our key question was "How were the Romans able to keep control over such a vast empire?"
Using information in a video we watched and other research we had to write down two ways the Romans kept control and we had to rate how important they were.
Year 4 - Roman Museum and Now, Press, Play
Date: 19th Sep 2023 @ 3:03pm
Today we listened to the ‘Roman Britain’ Now, Press, Play unit. We heard about what life was like in Britain when the Romans were here, how the Roman Army was set up and we recapped Boudica and her rebellion. Afterwards, we went into Redcliffes where a ‘Roman Museum’ was set up. We were able to try on Roman Army uniform, look at Roman coins and pottery. We were challenged to compare artefacts to items we use today.
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 4:03pm
In our History lesson today, we have had the opportunity to look at various Mayan artefacts including a replica calendar. The children asked and answered lots of interesting questions and used their critical thinking skills to talk about what each object told us about the Maya.
Date: 12th Sep 2023 @ 10:52pm
This week in History, we found out about Queen Boudica. Boudica was a fierce, brave warrior queen who had enough of the Romans mistreating her and her fellow Britons, so she decided to fight back!
Date: 6th Sep 2023 @ 5:44pm
We started our history topic by considering the question 'Why do we study the Maya in school?'. After finding out where the Maya lived and viewing some of the ancient sites on Google Earth, we looked for clues in the playground and used our critical thinking skills to decide what made the Maya so special.

Over the past two weeks, both Year 1 classes have been to visit the Blackpool Tower Circus! We had lots of fun watching the entertaining acts, including the acrobats, motorbikes and of course Mooky and Mr Boo!
Date: 11th Jul 2023 @ 7:53am
Last week we had our Heritage Day and learnt about our local area. In Year 3 we learnt about Fisherman’s Friend and how Doreen Lofthouse had a huge impact on ours and neighbouring towns. We learnt about the Lofthouse family, the history of the throat sweets and even tried some!
Date: 6th Jul 2023 @ 12:06pm
As part of whole school Heritage Day, Nursery thought about what clothes they would wear to Stanley Park in the winter and in the summer. We talked about clothes that would keep us warm, clothes that would keep us cool and clothes that would protect us from the different elements. Have a look to see the clothes we chose.
Date: 5th Jul 2023 @ 4:01pm
This week we celebrated heritage day where each year group has learnt about the History of different things in Blackpool. Year 2 explored the history of Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Both classes were excited to go to the pleasure beach where we learnt about how it came about, got it's name and looked at how the park has developed over time- some of us were shocked to learn that the flying machine is still there after being built and opened in 1904. Whilst we learnt about the history we also got a tour of the park and watched different rollercoasters thinking about how they work and what makes them exciting/scary. We used our knowledge and photos to create an inspiration page all about the Pleasure Beach and are incredibly grateful for the staff there who shared their expertise and knowledge. Lastly, we learnt about Amanda Thompson- one of the few females to be in the amusement park industry and she is carrying on family tradition of being the director.

Today for Heritage Day, we were given the question: How has Basil Newby influenced the LGBTQ+ community in Blackpool? To answer this, we looked at his life and how he became one of Blackpool's most successful entrepreneurs. This is due to him creating clubs and pubs that catered for the LGBTQ+ community. Basil owns and runs Funny Girls in town and we were visited by two of his employees, Alex and India. They gave us more background information about Basil and answered lots of questions that we had. We can't thank them enough for their time.
Date: 4th Jul 2023 @ 10:40am
For Boundary’s Heritage Day 2023, we were asked to answer the question, 'Why did Boundary become a popular tourist resort?' We discovered lots of interesting facts about our town's history, including that in the 1930s the town had over 10 million visitors per year! We presented our finding on a google slideshow and shared these with the rest of the school in an assembly.
Date: 3rd Jul 2023 @ 6:10pm
Today we explored the key question, 'how has the Blackpool Tower Circus changed?' We began by learning about the circus in the past, the year it opened, what acts performed there and how it looked. We looked at both photo evidence and posters, discussing what clues we could see that gave us information about the past. We then learnt about how the circus has changed over time and created a timeline of the promotional posters used. Finally we created our own posters for the present circus! We are also all looking forward to our circus trip as part of our Heritage learning!
Date: 3rd Jul 2023 @ 3:07pm
For Boundary’s Heritage Day 2023 we learned all about Blackpool Football Club. We started the day by discussing what heritage means and what we have learned about on previous Heritage days. Then we plotted events from Blackpool FC’s history in chronological order on a timeline. Next, we went into the Dance Studio where we were able to look at lots of the Seasider’s memorabilia. To finish the morning, we researched more information about the club including: why they play in tangerine, a famous chant called ‘Allez, Allez, Allez’, who owns the club, promotions and trophies they have won (FA Cup in 1953, promotion to the Premier League in 2010), their home stadium Bloomfield Road and what the coat of arms on their badge represent.
Year 4 - World Music Day 2023!
Date: 21st Jun 2023 @ 11:47am
Today, we celebrated World Music Day. To start the day we had an assembly to look at the history of the day where Mrs Pope told us that World Music Day originated in France and is now celebrated in over 120 countries on this day every year. Then, we were told our theme. South American/ Latin American music! We studied South American in Geography recently, so we were excited about learning about their genres of music. We start the morning listening to different genres of Latin music such as Samba, Salsa and Rumba. Then we listened to music by Ricky Martin and Shakira. The children used their oracy skills and musical vocabulary to describe the music. We discovered that a lot of Latin music has a fast tempo (allegro), the lyrics are Spanish and the tonality of the music is major. To show everything we learned about Latin America we made collages!
Year 5 - Now Press Play: Pompeii
Date: 23rd May 2023 @ 4:23pm
To support the learning in our geography unit : Volcanoes and Earthquakes, the pupils in year 5 completed an immersive experience using the Now Press Play resource. The children were dropped into a story set in Roman times, where they witnessed the deverstating eruption of the volcano which burried the city of Pompeii in 79AD. This also linked to learning about the Roman Empire, which children completed in year 4.
