Year 5 - Takeover Day 2025

Date: 19th Jun 2025 @ 10:00am

Year 5 Takeover Day was an absolute blast, with the children stepping into the shoes of adults and running the show! From Class Teachers and Teaching Assistants to even taking on the big role of Head of School, they gave it their all and really rose to the challenge. It was amazing to see them leading lessons, helping younger pupils, and making real decisions—it felt like the school was in safe hands! The day was all part of our ongoing effort to raise aspirations and build those all-important Skills for Life, and judging by the confidence and enthusiasm on display, the future looks very bright indeed!

Year 5 - R.E. Visitor

Date: 17th Jun 2025 @ 4:30pm

We had a wonderful visit from Rachel, who came in to talk to us about the Jewish faith. She shared some really fascinating insights into Judaism, including central beliefs like the importance of family, keeping kosher, and observing the Sabbath. Rachel explained how these traditions help guide daily life and bring people closer to their faith. The class were really engaged and asked some brilliant questions – from what Hanukkah is all about to how Jewish people celebrate Passover. It was a great opportunity to learn more about a different culture and everyone came away with a deeper understanding and lots to think about!

Year 5 - Flying High with Aspirations

Date: 17th Jun 2025 @ 4:27pm

Flying High with Aspirations: Our Aviation Zoom with Primary Futures ✈️

Last week, our children had the exciting opportunity to take part in a special Zoom session, set up in partnership with the amazing team at Primary Futures. The aim? To spark curiosity, raise aspirations, and open young eyes to the wide world of work — and what better theme to start with than aviation!

We were thrilled to be joined by two real-life pilots and an aerospace engineer, who each shared their fascinating career journeys, talked about what their day-to-day roles involve, and answered some very thoughtful (and sometimes very funny!) questions from our curious students.

The children were wide-eyed as they learned about flying commercial planes, navigating through challenging weather, and even helping design and maintain aircraft. It was an inspiring session that really brought home the message: you can be anything you want to be with passion, perseverance, and a love of learning.

We’re so grateful to Primary Futures and our guest speakers for helping our children dream big. We can't wait to see where their imaginations — and ambitions — will take them next!

We also spent some time thinking of children around the world currently caught up in conflict and how it is impacting upon their lives.
Lunchtime was more of a celebratory event, where we listened to some music from the 1940's and enjoyed some delicious cupcakes made by our fabulous catering team.

Year 5 - Nathan Parker visit

Date: 6th May 2025 @ 2:09pm

We were thrilled to welcome local poet and author Nathan Parker to our school, where he shared his inspiring journey into writing with the children. Hailing from Blackpool, Nathan spoke passionately about how his love for poetry began at a young age, sparked by his surroundings and a desire to tell stories. He captivated the students with tales of how Blackpool, with its vibrant culture and seaside atmosphere, influences much of his work. Nathan didn’t just talk about poetry—he worked closely with the children to create their own poem, encouraging them to use their imaginations and express their unique voices. The students loved the hands-on experience, and their faces lit up as their ideas came together into something truly special. Nathan’s visit was a wonderful reminder of the power of creativity, and he left the children with the message to keep writing and never stop dreaming—no matter where their own creative journeys take them.

Nursery and the Beautiful Garden

Date: 5th May 2025 @ 4:20pm

The Nursery garden was beginning to look a bit sorry for itself and it was time to give it a make-over! After a lot of preparation, digging out beds, removing weeds and moving countless wheel barrows of garden rubble, it was time to plant some beautiful plants, flowers, grasses and herbs. The children played a big part in creating the garden and helped to dig out the old soil and plant the new flowers. The garden now looks beautful and we are excited to help look after it and watch the plants grow, Extra special thanks goes to Mrs McAllister. Without her expert knowldge and hard work, this wouldn't have been possible. Also a big thanks to Mr Galloway and Mr Harding who had the hard task of digging up the beds! And finally, thank you to the all the nursery staff and children for all their help.

It’s been a great opportunity for the children to learn valuable life skills, and they're already showing lots of enthusiasm and maturity as they begin this journey together.

Year 5 - Musical Mastery

This is the second lesson where all the musical learning and activities will be focused around the song Look Into The Night. In this lesson we Listened to and Appraised Look into the Night – this time focussing specifically on its genre, tempo and our opinions. We used our music stem sentences to give our opinions and to comment on the songs structure. Finally, we used the glockenspiels to play along with Look into the Night – we found this very difficult!

"This has a VERY fast tempo – it’s called ALLEGRO"

Alexander

"K-Pop means Korean Pop"
