Year 5 - DT Day 2025

Year 5 had a brilliant DT day exploring how circuits work and what it takes to bring a product to market! We kicked off by investigating simple circuits, learning how to power a bulb and create a working switch. Then we shifted gears to think like real designers—researching existing torches and carrying out some market research to understand what makes a product successful. Armed with our findings and new circuit knowledge, we got hands-on and designed our very own torches, each one complete with a bulb and a functional switch. A great mix of creativity, problem-solving, and real-world thinking.

This week we have completed our unit on 'Inheritance and Evolution'. Our lessons centred around understanding how genes are passed on from parents to their offspring in both the animal and plant world. We then looked at how plants and animals have adaptedover time to survive in their environments. The idea of evolution took us on a journey of how change happens over millions of years and how we can learn about the past from fossils.
