In Art we have been perfecting our pointillism skills. We used inspiration from George Seurat and planned our own poiltillism piece. We sketched out the design and thought carefully about our choice of colours, ensuring they complemented each other and set the correct mood desired for our piece. We focussed on line, coloour and texture in our final piece.

As the final part of our DT journey all about structures, today we made our final product.
Firstly we talked about different attachment techniques we may use to make our design strong and sturdy. We then learnt how we were going to bring all our previous learning together to create our playground structure design from the materials we detailed on our designs. We showed lots of perseverance and determination throughout our learning!

In line with our RE topic of Hinduism, Year 5 were lucky enough to receive a visit from two practicing Hindu's.
They told us about their life, how they found Hinduism and why they started to practice. They had brought in lots of important objects for us to have a look at, and even let us try on the traditional clothes of angarkha and sari's.
It was fascinating to learn about Hinduism in such a creative and practical way to assist our theoretical learning.

It made it even more festive as we were dressed in our Christmas jumpers!
It definitely got us into the spirit!

This half term, Year 2 have been exploring materials and their properties. Last week, we planned and conducted two experiments to test different materials properties to see which is the best material for different uses and how suitable it is. First, we tested different materials absorbency to see which material is the best to be used to clean up spillages in the dinner hall. We found that cotton balls are the most absorbent but paper towels are more practical as they are bigger. We then tested materials to see if we could change thier shape. We tried to bend, squash, twist and stretch a selection of materials and recorded our results in a table.

As part of our whole school learning around the Christmas story and advent, Year Two designed and painted some pebbles so they could retell the story of the first Christmas. Firstly, we drew our designs on paper and painted our pebbles white. Then we carefully sketched our designs in pencil before painting them onto the pebbles.

This week in our Computing lesson we have explored online safety through the story 'The Adventures of Smartie the Penguin!' We began by thinking about how we find out information on the internet and discussing these search enginges. We learnt about SafeSearchKids and how this is a safe place for us to search for information. We were then introduced to SMART and we learnt what each letter stands for in relation to online safety. We then read our story and helped Smartie to make some safe and smart decisions when using his device. We learnt a song to help us to help Smartie...
Before you tap and click...
You need to stop and think...
And TELL someone!
We discussed who could help us if something happens online that we are not sure about. We then completed tasks to help us further understand information we should keep safe and what we can share.

This week we have explored freestanding structures in DT, through looking at familiar playground equipment. We began by exploring existing different types of playground equipment. We talked about the different pieces of equipment we enjoy playing on at a playground and why we like them. Looking at all these different types of equipment we discussed the questions...
What is it called?
What is it used for?
How do you use it?
What is it made from?
We then drew and labelled our favourite piece of equipment.

In Music today we have been looking at reading sheet music. Over the last couple of weeks we have been studying the different note lengths and names and today we had to use that knowledge to work out the names of the notes in a piece of music. We then used the glockenspiels to play several bars of the music - we managed to keep in time to the beat and together we kept the melody going.
Do You Want To Make a Reindeer?
Date: 9th Dec 2021 @ 5:11pm
We love a bit of Christmas craft in nursery and this week we have certainly been getting very crafty! We have made Christmas cards, salt dough pots, designed christmas jumpers and made Santa and reindeer faces! Have a look at our pictures to see how you could make your own paper plate reindeer face. The chidlren had to apply just the right amount of paint so that it covered the whole plate but didn't make it too soggy. Then they had to use their understanding of positional langauge to make sure they put the eyes, nose and antlers in the right place and also use their knowledge of number to make sure they counted out the right amount of each of these. They also talked about reindeer, what they do, how they fly and even tried to remember all of the reindeer names. What a lot of learning from a simple paper plate!

We have been sequencing the story and discussing the different characters, designing our own gingerbread men and even had an outdoor bakery! However, the most exciting part was that we were able to practice our handwriting outside on our new blackboards that Mrs McAllister installed.
Take a look at what we've been doing.

Today we completed an experiment to test which materials were waterproof and which were not. We read all about Ted’s problem and thought about what we could do to help him, as he didn’t know which material would make the best umbrella. We talked about what equipment we needed, how we were going to make our experiment a fair test, and the method we needed to follow for our experiment. We learnt that a fair test means we need to do exactly the same thing every time we do the test, for example how far away from the material we drop the water, how much water we use and how long the water touches the material before we observed the result.
