Adding Fractions

Date: 31st Mar 2021 @ 8:07am

Year 5 continued their fractions journey by learning how to add fractions with different denominators. We recapped on how to find a common denominator and then worked as a class to create a success criteria for adding fractions. After practising the skill by completing fluency questions, we solved some more complex reasoning and problem solving challenges.

The Vicious Vikings...Or were they?

Date: 30th Mar 2021 @ 5:01pm

In today's History lesson, we looked at the opinions we have on the Vikings and whether it's a true representation of them. We learnt that many of the perceptions we have of them is a result of primary/secondary sources written from the viewpoint of their enemies; they have a biased opinion. The Vikings didn't document much so we can't be certain of what they were really like. We then looked at a 'Living Graph' where we studied the times that the Vikings were the most powerful and when they ruled most of Britain. It was interesting to see how the Anglo-Saxons fought tirelessly to keep hold of the throne/power in particular parts of Britain - mainly Wessex. This came to an end when the Normans took power in 1066 from the Battle of Hastings.

Gross Motor Fun

Design and Technology week!

Date: 30th Mar 2021 @ 10:55am

During the week commencing 26th April 2021, Boundary is having a Design and Technology week. Every child in school will take part in our food themed week which will be based on an opening ceremony buffet party for the Tokyo Olympics this summer.

The children will focus not only on making their food look appealing to eat, design it, then make it themselves, but they will also be looking at the NHS's Eat Well Guide and finding ways to make their foods part of a balanced diet.

As part of the D&T journey, the children will start their day with a food tasting task. Please can all parents/carers ensure that school has all up to date allergy information. Please make sure any information is updated by 12th April 2021.

We cannot wait to see your creations!

The Dot inspired Art

Date: 29th Mar 2021 @ 7:02pm

We watched this video called the Dot.

THE DOT

Then we used our painting skills from Autumn term to create different colours and textures for our dotty abstract art. We used warm and cool colours to design different sized dots using different tools and technicues. Then we constructed our group artwork!

An Afternoon of Dots

Date: 29th Mar 2021 @ 4:13pm

Things got a bit dotty onThursday afternoon when the whole school took part in an Art afternoon. Everyone watched the story “The Dot” By Peter H Reynolds and then each class looked at how they could use dots in art.

EYFS used different printing techniques to create their dotty pictures including a collaborative piece.

Year 1 produced collage dots by scrunching pieces of tissue paper to make dots and a not-a- dot.

Year 2 practised a new sculpture technique called quilling. They had to roll up individual pieces of paper and then arranged them on a dot. The results were great!

Year 3 spent the afternoon creating small dots using a variety of techniques and then put all the dots together to create a one piece of art work.

Year 4 and 6 both put their drawing and sketching skills to the test by creating a whole picture based around a dot. They had to think of images they could create using a dot as the focus.

Year 5 explored positive and negative images to make a “not-a-dot”. They showed a lot of patience and skill by carefully printing around the outside of a large dot.

The children showed some great artistic skills and produced some really super art work as you can see from the photos.

FIRE! FIRE!

Date: 29th Mar 2021 @ 3:56pm

In PSHE we have been learning about Fire Safety! We learnt 3 key rules:

1. Get out
2. Stay out
3. Call 999

We also learnt that if there is smoke in the room, it will rise. This means that if we were ever in a fire we should stay low! We practised crawling out of the room and using the back of hand to test the door temperature. We also learnt about stop, drop and roll! We are now clued up on what to do in the event of a fire and we know how to actively prevent fires in the home.

Solids, liquids and gases experiment

Date: 29th Mar 2021 @ 3:26pm

In science today the Year 4 predicted what would happen if we mixed together vinegar and baking powder into a bottle, with a balloon attached to the bottle. After the children made their predictions we headed outside to see what would happen. A chemical reaction took place between the vinegar and baking soda which created a gas which blew up the balloon! The children really enjoyed this experiment.

Art Day!

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 7:46pm

Today, every class listened to the story 'The Dot' by Peter H. Reynolds. Each year group had a specific focus for their art and in Year 6 we had to incorporate a black dot into our art work. There were lot of different desgins and ideas shared and discussed as a class and some prtty amazing pieces of art work were produced. Below are just a few of our examples.

Art Day!

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 7:00pm

Today we enjoyed Art Day! Firstly, we listened to the story ‘The Dot.’ This was a new story to us all, and one we very much enjoyed! We talked about the message in the story and linked it to our growth mindset, something that has been very important for us since we returned to school. We then talked about the importance of showing pride in our work and how Vashti’s feelings change and why. To create our dot we used a combination of materials. We cut, tore, twisted, scrunched and folded these materials before sorting, arranging and finally gluing! We created our dot by 'not making a dot!' We used the negative space on the paper to create the dot. It was a lot of fun!

Going Dotty!

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 4:39pm

Year Five have been created art inspired by a short film called 'The Dot' and have had a fantastic afternoon creating their masterpieces!

The children either created their dotty pattern inside a circle or around a circle using a variety of bright colours. They ended up with some eye-catching creations!

Spot!

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 3:45pm

This afternoon we focussed our art on the story 'The Dot'. We started with 2 dots on the page and went on to create a class masterpiece! We used the skill of quilling to roll pieces of paper to make a 3D piece of art. This took great resilience and perseverence as we rolled all of these tiny pieces. We ended up with very sticky hands from all of that glue!

We found it to be very peaceful and theraputic and we are extremely pleased with the end result.

Glorious Sunflowers

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 3:38pm

In Science, we planted our own sunflowers. We learnt what plants need to survive: sunlight, water, the correct temperature and time. Every day we have been watering our plants and watching them grown. They have gone from being a seed to a germinated seed, seedling and now it is getting towards a young plant.

We can't wait to see our flowers turn into an adult plant!

The Dot

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 3:23pm

Nursery took part in a whole school art afternoon. We watched a story called "The Dot" by Peter H Reynolds and then created our own dot pictures! We printed dots with paint, used bingo dabbers to make pictures and also created our own pictures starting with a dot. We had a dotty good time!

I'll Huff and I'll Puff!

Sensory Circuits

Date: 25th Mar 2021 @ 11:32am

Cedar class use daily sensory circuits to help them focus into learning. We focus on the 3 main elements to help stimulate the brain which increases pupils concentration. First, we activate the body by completing short active tasks. Today we focused on incresing the heart rate with shutle runs. Then we use coordinating activities to focus our mind. Today we used log rolls and balancing exercises. Finally, we calm our bodies by doing relaxing exercises to regulate our emotions and put us into the 'green zone' of regulation. Today we completed wall stretches and the weighted blanket.

Parts of Plants!

Date: 24th Mar 2021 @ 7:12pm

Today in Science we looked in depth at the different parts of plants and what purpose these different parts have. We already knew the names of lots of different parts of plants, but we needed to recap on what all the parts are for! We learnt that the flower attracts insects and birds, the seeds grow into new plants when they fall into the soil, the stem holds the plant up, the roots take in water and nutrients and the leaves catch sunlight to make energy. We then made our plant picture! We followed the instructions to create our amazing plant pictures, talking about the different parts and the purpose of each part as we worked.

Spring is here!

Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 8:07pm

As a class we have been talking about the different changes we have noticed over the past few weeks.  These have included; new plants growing, buds on trees, daffodils in our garden, blossom on trees and new life.  This afternoon the children paired up and went outside with their clip boards to complete their spring checklist in the forest school area.  The children enjoyed looking around the forest school area to find different signs of spring.

"Look Mrs Clark, a bird has made a nest in the tree.  The birds are going to lay their eggs" Elliott

"The blossom is growing on the trees"  Ellie-Mae

"The trees have buds on them.  The leaves are going to grow"  Harley-May

"The temperature is warmer today" Ella-Rose

Fruits in French

Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:13pm

This half term we have been learning the names of different fruits in French. We have been combining this with the phrase 'I like' and 'I don't like' in French which is J'aime and Je n'aime pas. We have been practising our speaking and listening each week and learning some of the spellings.

Sizzling Samba

Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:06pm

Fern Class are starting to work with Mr. Simpson to learn about Samba. We have been focusing on using the different Samba instruments and working on keeping the beat/pulse, repeating call and response rhythms and learning about the different names of notes e.g. crotchet, minim and quaver. It has been great fun so far!

Lots of Laughs for Comic Relief

Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:01pm

We wore red, brought in some fundraising money and told lots of funny jokes to Raise money for Comic Relief. Being funny and having a laugh is one of the resilient moves that we can use to help ourselves feel better and look after our own mental health and well being. We also raised money for different charities, while enjoying ourselves!

States of matter using Cheerios

Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 7:01pm

Year 4 have had a great afternoon today using Cheerios to represent the three states of matter which are solids, liquids and gases. The children were able to identify some of the key characteristics of the three states of matter.

Year Five are enjoying creating their gymnastic routines working as a team with a partner.

Date: 22nd Mar 2021 @ 4:05pm

Over the last two weeks, Year Five have been creating routines in their gymnastics lessons. They have been mostly focusing on mirrored and matched balances, arabesques and different ways of travelling. Working together as a team was vitally important whilst devising their routines.
