What a fantastic day Willow Class have had back at school.  The children came in smiling eager to get learning.  They lined up beautifully outside and enjoyed sharing their lockdown stories with their teacher and friends over breakfast.  The children had a great time finding out all about our new topic 'Let's Go Wild' and even enjoyed an animal treasure hunt in the garden in the afternoon.  They enjoyed working in the different areas of the classroom; practicing our reading, writing words and captions at the phonics table, exploring the spring table, painting, ordering numbers and counting out the correct quantity.  What a great start everyone!

Welcome Back Year 6!!

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 8:10pm

Today we were extremely happy to welcome back our wondeful Year 6 pupils. It was so lovely to see them all again, back in class where they belong. We spent the morning going through what lockdown life has been like and what they had enjoyed about home-schooling. In the afternoon, we began our Art topic - sketching. We began by practising using different sketching styles, such as cross-hatching, stippling and blending. We were then introduced to the artist Stephen Wiltshire and studied several of his pieces of art before attempting them ourselves. Some of the results were stunning!!

Welcome Back Year 1!

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 6:43pm

Welcome back Year 1!

Today we welcomed back our Year 1 children and it was lovely to see lots of smiling faces on the playground bright and early this morning! We have had a lovely day and spent lots of time talking about our emotions and feelings about coming back to school.

This afternoon we then built on our online learning for our Science topic this half term - plants! We firstly recapped on the learning we completed at home, comparing wild flowers and garden flowers and talking about why people plant flowers in their gardens.

We looked at some Chrysanthemum flowers and talked about the different parts of the plant and their purpose. We then completed lots of different activities, including drawing and labelling plants in our own garden, putting mixed up flowers back together and labelling the parts of a plant, talking about the purpose of each part.

Finally we planted our sunflower seeds. We talked about what our sunflower seeds need and how we can help them to grow big and strong. We are looking forward to measuring our sunflowers when they begin to grow!

The Whole Gang Is Back Together!

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 4:46pm

What a wonderful first day back we have had in Nursery! All the children came back so well and have picked up exactly where they left off way back in December! They have remembered the rules and routines and were so excited to see each other! We are so happy to have everyone back and it was so great to see all your smiling faces.

Year Three and Four loved their first lesson with the Royal Ballet!

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 4:43pm

Year Three and Year Four really enjoyed their first lessons this year with Sarah and Rob from the Royal Ballet! They learnt all about the Royal Ballet School at White Lodge and how ballet and lots of its terminology originates from France.

The children learnt some of the main ballet positions and their dance was linked to light which is one of the current Science topics in Lower Key Stage Two. Children learning at home also joined in with the Zoom lesson.

The Science of Ageing

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 4:15pm

Our first day as a full class since December and a super science lesson about the human timeline. We  started by looking at ourselves in the mirror and thinking about how our appearance would be different in 10 years. We then thought about how it would be different in 70 years! We looked at pictures of teachers from when they were young - it was very difficult to work out who they were! Finally, we learned the 6 stages of human development and created a human timeline.

Amazing Ancient Greek Projects!

Date: 8th Mar 2021 @ 4:14pm

Year Five have come back to school today with some excellent Ancient Greek projects which they are now presenting to rest of the class and sharing all of their learning. The projects range from ICT presentations to models, posters and information books.

Topics include: Greek gods, food, homes, beliefs and clothing. The children were extremely proud to show the rest of the class their superb work! Well done Year Five!

Fantastic Forest School

Date: 5th Mar 2021 @ 5:24pm

The Nursery children had a wonderful time at Forest School. They listened to the story Goldilocks and The Three Bears and then made porridge for the bears. They splashed in muddy puddles, built towers by balancing wooden logs, did some super mark making by painting water on to wood, tested out their balance on the obstacle course and had a yummy flapjack for snack! We know they enjoyed themselves beacuse they came back covered in mud!

There Is A Pea On The Loose!

Date: 5th Mar 2021 @ 5:01pm

Have you ever wondered what happens to food in your freezer late at night? You need to be careful because you might find that an evil pea has escaped and is causing havoc! That's exactly what happened in nursery! After reading the story "Supertato", we came to school the next morning to find that there were evil peas all over nursery and we had to try and find the big boss of the evil peas! We used our super powers and luckily we were able to capture him! Phew!

Our Superhero topic has been so much fun. We have measured superheroes, counted evil peas, made our own supertatos, designed capes and masks and made wanted posters for the evil pea!

Having a Roaring Time on World Book Day

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 3:59pm

In the morning, Cedar joined in with World Book Day by completing various book tasks. The younger pupils enjoyed reading The Dinosaur Who Pooped a Planet before making our own dinosaur models.

The older pupils completed tasks from our class reading book- A Boy in A Dress. They then used their Maths skills to survey the staff from the school about their favourite children's book. They used the data to create their own graphs and charts and would you believe it 'Charlie and The Chocolate Factory' was the most popular!

Forest School Fun!

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 3:56pm

This afternoon, Cedar had great fun in our Boundary Forest School area.

First, we went to look in the ponds and couldn't believe how much frogspawn there was! We discussed the lifecycle of frogs and can't wait to watch them grow.

Next, we made jam donuts, yum! We lit the fire and set to work making the batter, before frying our donuts over the fire. They were absolutely delicious! We showed good resilience when using flints to start the fire and good team work when making the donut batter.

Wonderful Lockdown Learning!

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 3:54pm

Wonderful Work in Year Five!

During lockdown, we have received some wonderful work from our Year Five students. Here are a few examples including work about the life of William Shakespeare, the music of the Beatles and aome excellent stop-motion ICT projects from our Key Worker bubble. The children have been extremely creative and should be proud of all of their hard work!

Ancient Greek Projects

Date: 4th Mar 2021 @ 2:57pm

Ancient Greek Projects - in school and at home

To kick off our new historty topic, we had a visit from an Ancient Greek. He talked to the children in school and those at home via Google Meet and told them all about his life in Ancient Greece. The children were then set a task of researching an aspect of Ancient Greek life and creating a project of their choice. We had some wonderful work that ranged from models to presentations and information texts. We are looking froward to continuing our history lessons when we return to school next week.

Brilliant Beans!

Date: 3rd Mar 2021 @ 2:14pm

Over half term our Year 1 children received a little surprise in the post!

It was a lovely surprise to recieve a bean seed, a bean diary and a bean song! We had some great ideas about what we might be doing with our seeds, but we all waited patiently until our first science lesson to find out what we we're going to do with our beans!

We talked about how we were going to help our beans grow big and strong, and what scientific questions we could ask before following the instructions to plant our bean. We then sequenced the instructions we had followed in the correct order and started our bean diary with our initial observations!

Local Litter Picking!

Date: 2nd Mar 2021 @ 8:05pm

In PSHE we have been discussing looking after our environment. After looking at the amount of litter around the school, Year 6 stepped into action. We took a litter picker, a bin bag and spent a good hour cleaning up the rubbish around Boundary. We managed to collect 6 full bin bags worth of rubbish. Our message to people is to take your rubbish home with you or use a bin if there is one in the local area.

We will be working on letters to the council and local residents soon to discuss what we can do with not only the litter problem but the dog foul too as we found quite a lot of that!!

No Device Day!

Date: 2nd Mar 2021 @ 8:01pm

We've had a great day here in Blue Bubble without our devices. We have spent the day playing games, constructing shapes/towers with art straws and baking. We have made pizzas and peppermint creams and had lots of fun in the process. We are looking forward to having another day like this!!

Science - the shadow search!

Date: 2nd Mar 2021 @ 9:53am

This half term we have started to learn about Light in Science. We will continue this when we are all back at school next week. Thankfully some sunny days meant we could go outside and talk about the sun and how it creates our shadows of different sizes at different times of day! We talked about how it is important not to look at the sun because it can damage your eyes. We sorted different light sources and realised that the moon and mirrors only reflect light, they don't produce it. Some children even did an experiment to find out which materials were the most reflective for a new book bag design. Light enables us to see and the absence of light creates darkness!

A Super Start to Home Learning!

Date: 13th Jan 2021 @ 9:10am

Although this wasn't the start to the term we had planned, our Year 1 children have adapted fantastically. A lot of our children got straight onto our home learning platform Seesaw, and started completing the daily tasks.

This week we have been looking at finding and making number bonds in Maths. We have done lots of work on our number bonds in 10 previously in school, and we have now been using these number bonds to learn our number bonds to 20. We have recapped on using part part whole models to partition numbers and represented our number bonds on tens frames and bar models. We have explored our number bonds to 20, looking at if 6+4=10 then 16+4=20!

This week we have also looked at our goals for 2020, including what we would like to get better at at school, at home and something we want to try in the new year!

We have already seen some great examples of work, and we hope this continues! Remember Miss Kay and Mrs Webster are always here for you if you need any help, and we will check in with you at home to make sure you are all doing well.

Home Learning Week 2

Date: 18th Jan 2021 @ 9:04am

Well done on another successful week of home learning Year 1! You have continued to learn lots of new things remotely, by logging onto Seesaw each day, watching Miss Kay's and Mrs Webster's videos and completing our set tasks. Our Year 1 children have adapted brilliantly, and lots of you have completed some brilliant pieces of work, keep it up!

This week we have been writing descriptive sentences about our book, 'Lost and Found.' We have thought about using the 5 senses to describe what the characters might be see, hear, feel, smell and taste using picture prompts from the story. We have also been writing questions to characters, using our question words, who, what, where, when, why and how. We have had some great examples of work from our Reading into Writing lessons, and we have really enjoyed reading your work!

In Art we have continued to look at our artist, 'Henri Matisse,' and explore his artwork and the collage technique. We have learnt lots about Matisse and how he liked to work, using lots of different shapes, lots of bright colours, and cutting shapes out of paper and laying them down on a big sheet of paper, rather than drawing shapes straight onto the paper. We have created a Matisse colour wheel, and this week we began to practise the style of collage to create a picture of our own choice!

Willow Class Star of the Week

Date: 17th Jan 2021 @ 5:06pm

Star of the Week goes to Elliott this week for showing commitment and dedication to his home learning, going above and beyond in all areas.  Elliott has completed all the home learning tasks as well as completing additional reading and writing activities with his mum.  A huge well done! Keep up the hard work, we are very proud of you!

Holly Class Star of the Week- Toby!

Date: 15th Jan 2021 @ 2:02pm

Star of the Week goes to Toby this week for working hard every day. He is completing all of his home learning and uploading super videos of himself reading and talking and we love seeing the photos of his writing and art. Well done!

It's f-f-f-freezing!!

Date: 15th Jan 2021 @ 1:36pm

In Cedar, we've been exploring the ice outside.

We couldn't believe how thick some of the ice is! We rescued the rubber ducks that were stuck in the ice, cracked some icy puddles, looked at the frost on the fence, grass and leaves and look at the amazing details in some frozen spider webs.

Super Home Learning!

Date: 15th Jan 2021 @ 11:39am

Well, that wasn't the start to the new term we were all hoping for! We are back to learning from home and the nursery children have adapted brilliantly! They have been doing lots of practical activities to help with their counting, phase 1 phonics, listening and attention and physical development. Well done everyone - you are amazing!

Home Learning - week 2

Date: 19th Jan 2021 @ 8:15am

Year 4 started to write their dilemma stories this week. The children worked really hard thinking of more interesting sentence starters using fronted adverbials. Miss Crystal and Mr Bamber can't wait to read the final pieces! Those children who are still in school during lockdown have the excitement of Forest School every Thursday. It's super cold at the moment, so the children made sure they got that fire started to give them some heat. Well done to those children in Green bubble!
