Sport Relief

Date: 15th Mar 2020 @ 7:40pm

Children had a great Sport Relief. They were all allowed to come into school in their sports wear and they were involved in different sporting activities throughout the day. We were also lucky in Fern class as we had a special talk from Mrs Cooper on her journey through martial arts.  Mrs C said how it is a sport which focusses on strength and agility. We wouldn't want to mess with her!

One Sunny Afternoon!

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 5:12pm

Today, we made the most of the nice weather and explored the playground and play equipment with our afternoon Nursery children. We started off by playing different circle games, practising rolling the ball and following instructions to play each game. We then started to move around the area, walking, jumping, skipping, running and even hopping! After we had warmed up we each had a turn on the equipment. We all had to wait patiently, as balancing on the beams was quite tricky, so a lot of us needed help from our teachers! We all travelled up and across the ramp, across the chains, and back down the ramp before having a well deserved rest at the end! We all enjoyed exploring the equipment and didn't want to come back in to Nursery for home time!

Sport Relief

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 4:55pm

This morning our Nursery children joined with Reception to take part in some Sport Relief activities! Lots of children had come prepared in their sportswear, and we were all excited to join in! We each joined a different group in the hall and moved around each activity, until we had all had a go on each one! We took part in basketball, hockey and even balloon tennis! We took turns with the Reception children, and they all helped to show us what to do if we weren't sure! When we got back to Nursery we talked about the effect the exercise we had been doing had had on our body. We noticed we were hot, our hearts were beating fast and our cheeks were red!

Superheroes Unite!

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 4:39pm

Welcome to our 'Superhero Headquarters!' Nursery has been transformed into superhero world this week! Our writing area has become a top secret den, where we could leave secret messages with our spy writing pens! We could keep these secret from our enemies as only Nursery children have the tools to be able to read the top secret messages! Our home corner turned into an enemies lair, with laser beams across the walls, hiding the precious treasure, 'The Boundary Diamond.' We had a top secret mission to rescue the diamond by manoeuvring between the lasers, being very very careful not to touch them and set off the alarm! We have also been exploring materials this week, by investigating which material would make the best cape for our superhero, and then using this knowledge to design and make our own cape and cuffs! We put each material through a test to see which was strong enough to be fit for a superhero! In our Maths are we have explored Numicon city, using different pieces to match tower outlines, and exploring the matching superhero numbers! Some of us have even been matching numeral to quantity using our superhero character numbers, and our special treasure gems!

Let there be light!

Date: 13th Mar 2020 @ 3:24pm

For our new science topic children have been learning all about light. Children have been setting up simple experiments, joined in with practical enquiries and created fair tests to discover that without light we cannot see. Children have recognised that light can be dangerous, darkness is the absence of light and light travels in straight lines.

Fingerprints and Footprints!

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 10:05am

Cadets had an interesting visit from CSI this week. The cadets learnt all about the role of the crime scene investigator, the style of the jobs they attend and how the forensic evidence is used to catch criminals and in court.

Snap Circuits!

Date: 12th Mar 2020 @ 9:16am

In Science, we have been learning all about electricity! We were able to explore the snap circuits and create our own circuits. We realised that there couldn't be any breaks in our circuits or they wouldn't work! We were able to make light bulbs glow, motors spin and we even made one circuit sing happy birthday! We had lots of fun experimenting with the circuits but we also learnt how to use them safely and how electricity works.

Teepee Tales!

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 9:10am

Today we joined Reception for Mrs. G Teepee Tales. We firstly looked at the front cover of the book, discussing what we thought the book might be about. We figured out it was about a dinosaur, but not just any dinosaur, a dinosaur that had lost his roar! We all listened very carefully to the story, some of us were even chosen to become characters from the story, and we all joined in with our favourite part, 'ROAAAAAAR.' Some of our children were then lucky enough to be able to buy a book to take home with them.

World Book Day 2020

Strong Structures!

Date: 11th Mar 2020 @ 7:31pm

As part of our learning journey in Design and Technology, we looked at how to make structures stronger. We investigated 2D and 3D shapes and how they can be made stronger using triangulation. We made shapes using a construction kit, paper straws and pipe cleaners and investigated which ones were the strongest. This will help us when we design our own structure next week!

Micro-Habitat Hunt!

Date: 10th Mar 2020 @ 12:48pm

Today we learned what the word habitats mean. We looked at a range of habitats and thought about who might live in this habitat and how they may have needed to adapt to survive there. We drew pictures of animals to go with each habitat.

We then learnt what microhabitats are and went out and explored looking for microhabitats. We found lots of microhabitats around the school grounds housing worms, spiders and woodlouse.

Researching the past!

Date: 9th Mar 2020 @ 3:04pm

In our history, we have been using Chromebooks to research about houses and lifestyles and how they have changed since 1066. The children have focussed on four periods of time, Tudors, Stuarts, Georgians and Victorians and answered questions from different areas. Children, diet, jobs, housing, clothing and they discovered a fun fact. We finally compared them as a class to see how they have changed or remained similar over time.

World Book Day!

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 2:50pm

What a good day! Children have thoroughly enjoyed World Book Day. From the beginning and discussing our characters, making book marks and drawing character selfies, visiting the library and being given our own book, guessing the stories and listening to stories! We have had a brilliant day!

World Book Day!

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 4:35pm

Today it is World Book Day, and we have had a very exciting day! We started the day by coming in Nursery, but not in our school uniform! We were all dressed as characters from our favourite story. We had characters from 'Peter Rabbit,' 'Funny Bones' and even 'Harry Potter!' During carpet time we all talked about who we were, and why we liked the story our character was from. We then took part in different World Book Day activities, including making a bookmark to keep our place in our favourite story! We finished off each Nursery session with a story before home time. Everyone in Nursery made a fantastic effort for the day, thank you for your support!

Journey & Transport

Date: 6th Mar 2020 @ 4:22pm

This week in Nursery we have been exploring different types of transport. We have read and discussed lots of different vehicle books, talking about where we might travel using each type of transport. In our construction area we have made roads using bricks, play dough tools and construction site vehicles. We have also made a track for large vehicles made with planks, that we have explored using the bus and trains we have made using large cardboard boxes. We have investigated the marks different vehicles make using shaving foam, paint and vehicles, as well as setting up our own car wash to wash the dirty vehicles in afterwards! In our Funky Fingers area we have been using nuts and bolts, and putting stickers onto the different types of wheels! We have even explored remote control vehicles, looking at how to turn them on and how we can move them without using our hands!

#WorldBookDay

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 8:18pm

What a fantastic day we have had today! We were so excited coming into class this morning. We couldn't wait to see what all our friends were dressed as. Our classes were made up of Marry Poppins, Harry Potters, Gangster Granny, Cat in the Hats, Ron Weasley, Gruffalos, Peter Rabbit, Goldilocks, Little Red Riding Hood and many more.

We talked about who we had come dressed as, we completed a book review and we also enjoyed re-designing a book front cover for a book that had been read to us with the cover hidden. There were some great designs and a couple even looked like the real thing!

The overarching theme of the day was to share stories .... so we read stories as class, on our own and to our friends. We also enjoyed a visit to the library in our costumes where we all received a book.

It's not all over today, we love reading and we ready every day at school! .... Tomorrow we have Mrs. G Teepee Tales coming in to share more stories with us! The excitement and our love for books never ends!

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” Dr. Seuss.

Ocean Wow

Date: 5th Mar 2020 @ 7:49pm

When Year 4 returned to school they found out that their new subject was going to be called ' Oh I do like to be by the seaside'. This topic has a focus on Geography, Science and D&T. The children created ocean themed water colour washes onto their paper. They created different tones and shade to show light passing through the water. Once they were dry the children researched different ocean creatures and created silhouettes to add to their ocean landscapes. Children also started to investigate habitats and elements of living things.

Pancake day

Date: 25th Feb 2020 @ 1:24pm

Today the children have enjoyed celebrating pancake day.  We visited the school kitchen to make our own delicious pancakes.  We needed eggs, flour and milk.  Mrs Clark had to weigh the flour using the scales to make sure we had the right amount.  We mixed the ingredients up in a bowl to make sure there was no lumps.  We then cooked the pancake in the frying pan.  Mrs Clark flipped the pancake too! They tasted delicious!

When we got back to class we enjoyed making pancakes in the home corner, reading pancake words and even having pancake races in the garden.
