Today Reception enjoyed a visit to St Mark's Church as part of our RE curriculum question 'What places are special in our community?'. The children were very excited to travel to the mini bus and meet Rev'red Peter. When we got to the church Peter showed the children all the different places in the church including the alter, the font and the pulpit. He talked to the children about the different things the church does to help the community as well as reason why it is a special place to Christians. The children then reflected of different places that are special to them. Here are some of the things the children said.
"My nana's house is special because she looks after me there and we do nice things together" Albie.
"This is a special place. My mummy and daddy got married here. We have a picture of it up" Megan.
"Church is special to me. I go with my brother Chidera:" Chisom
"My house is special because my mummy looks after me there" Kyril
"I go to special places with Rosie. We always have fun" Jazmine

Year 5 had a great time during our whole school 'No Pen Day'. Pens and pencils were removed from tables and we did not write in any of our books. During our maths lesson we used counters and coins to solve addition and subtraction problems. Our history lesson was a top secret mystery about Ancient Egyptian mummification. We had to work collaboratively to work out how the Ancient Egyptians used to deal with their dead!

This half term on No Pen Day we explore Shakespeare's 'Merchant of Venice'. We enjoyed role playing different scenes and discussing how characters felt and acted. In Maths we investigated place value when carrying out efficient subtraction and how exchanging takes place. In History we investigated Tudors inventories and how this linked to their social class.
PE - Teamwork and Problem Solving

This half term we have been working on our ability to work as a team to solve a range of different problems. We have worked in a range of different groups and linked our skills from a a variety of sports. Throughout PE we have reflected upon our learning and how this links to the characteristics.

Every half term, children in Boundary will be learning about an area of Eco. Eco is short for ecological which means the relations of living organisms to one another and to their physical surroundings. Year three's theme this half term was Climate Change. Children watched videos, played games and created a poster to demonstrate awareness of how we need to change the way we are to help our planet.

This half term in Year 4 we learnt about democracy and had a visit from MP Paul Maynard. He gave our applicants advice on how to write a successful manifesto. Once our applicants had written their manifestos they presented them to their class. Once all the children had read their manifestos the children in Year 4 voted for their new school councillors. We now have two successful new councillors who have already attended their first council meeting.

This week were lucky enough to have a fantastic visit from SMJ Falconry who brought 4 owls; Midge, Molly, Ollie and Spud. We found out lots of interesting facts about the owls and even had the opportunity to hold on wearing a special glove. Back in the classroom we read the story Owl Babies, uses props and puppets to retell the story orally, made owls out of recycled materials, used play dough to make our own owls and built nest out of natural materials. We also drew the owls from the story and labelled them with the initial sound. What a busy week we have had!

Year 3 had a great time on No Pen Day, especially in Science! We have been learning all about magnetic forces and we used iron filings to create our own magnetic fields. We also had to work together to create our own magnetic maze, using rolled paper - a technique we have been looking at in our Design Technology lessons. It was interesting to see all the different designs. At the end of the lesson, we were able to show how the magnets don't need to be touching the magnetic object, in order to move it.
The One With Electricity At Aspire!

Today, Year 6 went to Aspire to take part in an electricity workshop to link in with work we have done in our Science topic. The children were tasked with carrying out an investigation into what would make a bulb brighter/dimmer in a circuit. They all agreed that adding more cells to a circuit would make the bulb brighter as there was more electricity being supplied to the bulb.
