Year 2- Spelling Bee

Today, Year Two participated in our house competiton of the spelling bee. The children represented their houses with pride and tried really hard to spell some of the words aloud that we have learnt so far. Well done to our four representatives, you did great!

Reception Learning to use our Mini Me

Today we have introduced the children to their 'Mini Mes'  A 'mini me' is a pictiure of themselves which they must find it the provision.  The children are then encouraged to complete the task their 'Mini Me' is on.  This is to help the children to become more independent and encourage them to work in a range of different areas within the classroom.  Have a look at the children working hard with their 'Mini Me'.

Reception Little Red Hen

This week the children in Reception have been reading the traditional tail 'Little Red Hen'  the children have taken part in lots of different activities themeed arounf the story including sequencing the story using the correct language, labelling the characters with the initial sounds, collaging their own little red hen using a range of materials at the creative table,  ordering the hen number cards and counting out the correct quantity and retelling the story using the puppets and using the playdough to make their own little red hen..  The children even mafe bread in the school kitchen.  What a busy week.

Year 6 - The Ancient Maya

Our unit this half term has been the Ancient Maya. We have learned all about the ancient Maya, a civilisation that lived in the rainforests of Mesoamerica and spanned over 300 years. We have learned how their people used the resources at hand to make tools, weapons and places to live. We have learned about what they ate, what they wore and how they entertained themselves. We have really enjoyed learning all about this ancient civilisation.

Year 6 - Harvest Festival

This week Boundary Primary School celebrated Harvest Festival. Year 6 led the celebration assembly together with our special guest, Reverend Peter. We talked about being thankful for the food we eat, our good health and the life we live. The children and their families helped by donating food to Vincent House.Thank you to everyone for their support.

Harvest Festival

Reception- Holly Class Bake Bread

After reading the story, Little Red Hen, Reception decided to bake bread. They all worked together, helping each other to weigh the ingredients, mix the ingredients and knead the dough before placing it in a bowl to allow it to rise. Then it was baked in the oven and eaten. 

Unlike the story, where Little Red Hen had to do everything herself, all the children worked togther showing kidness and respect.

Acorns - Harvest

Acorns have enjoyed exploring and learning about Harvest this week. We have learnt about the different crops we can harvest and the role of the farmer.
We enjoyed using our tractor in the sensory tray and digging for different vegetables.  We loved using the vegetables to print and mark make with. 

Year 4 - Buzzing about books

Maple class have got a brilliant opportunity from World of Stories to take part in their Buzzing about books scheme. We had lots of amazing books delivered last week and for the first few days we just rotated them around the class looking at the huge variety on offer. Today, we got to pick the book we want to read ourselves and now we will spend some time each day enjoying the books we've chosen.

Year 2- Forest School Fun Part 2

This week in forest school we had another fantastic session and managed to enjoy some sunshine! We started by discussing who can help us in case of an emergency on a mountain side and made ourself an emergency shelter before exploring the areas. We said we wanted to focus on frogs so we discussed a frogs habitat, life cycle and food chain before going pond dipping to see what wildlife we could find. We found: water beetles, worms and even a dragonfly nymph that was wrapped up, keeping warm in the pond weed. 

Year 6 - Investigating Refraction

Year 6 has a great Science lesson this week. The children were amazed by the illusions created by refraction. We learned that refraction distorts images and can even reverse them!

Year 1 Spirals

Today we began our spiral journey! We looked at examples together first, talking about what we could see in different examples of spirals, before going outside and practising ourselves! We used lots of different resources including chalks, pastels and pencils, to create both big and small spirals. 

Year 3- Mighty magnets!

In Science, we were testing which materials were attracted to a magnet. We made predictions on each object and then tested it with a magnet. The children were excited to find out that objects made of metal were attracted to metal, but we found out not all metal is magnetic.  

Year 3- Ordering numbers!

In Maths, we have been looking at ordering numbers. We looked at putting numbers is ascending and descending order. The children had to pick a range of numbers and put them into the correct order.  

Nursery Multi Task!

It's amazing how much learning the children can take from one activity! This week we have been using small coloured animals to practise our counting. But, at the same time, the children also developed their fine motor skills by using tweezers, sorted objects by colour and learnt to share and take turns with their friends! 

Nursery and the Jelly Bears

Everyday at Nursery, the children have lots of opportunities to develop their fine motor skills, Strengthing their finger muscles is essential in supporting a good pencil grip. The children all love messy play and this week they discoverd some bears stuck in jelly! They had to rescue the bears, but weren't allowed to use their hands! We supplied tweezers and spoons and the children had a wonderful time rescuing the bears and made their finger muscles stonger all at the same time! 

Acorns - People who help us

This week Acorns have been learning about people who help us in the community.

We have had lots of fun exploring through our sensory trays, puzzle matching, stories and songs and rhymes.

We especially loved dressing up and the puppets. 

Year 5 - Place Value Perfection

We have been investigating Place Value and how the placement of digits can impact how we use them, how we say them and the words we use when we say them out loud. Some of us used Base 10 to investigating the concept of exchanging. We looked closely how the physical exchange of 10 ones becomes 10 and 10 tens becomes 100.

Year 5 - Maps and Typography

In this art lesson, pupils began to design and create their 3D map. The children used the island map from Kensuke's Kingdom as a starting point and added their own features and used pencil lines to create textures. Next lesson, the pupils will add 3D elements to make their map come to life.

Year 4 - Rounding in maths

This week, Year 4 have been rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. 

They have been using lots of number lines and have started to use their own independently to be able to work out the nearest multiple of 10, 100 or a 1000 before moving on to application questions. Finally, the class have used their number sentences to inform the class of their reasoning. You can see a small selection of children teaching the class on how they have worked out the task. 

The children have really impressed Miss Starkey and Miss Crystal with their mathematical skills as rounding can be tricky!

 

Year 5 - Shared Writing

As part of our Reading into Writing journey, we have worked collboratively to write a paragraph for a biography about Billie Eilish. Our paragraphs had to include a fronted adverbial and a range of pronouns and possessive pronouns. 

Year 2- Fantastic Food Chains

Today, we began learning about food chains. We thought about food chains. We thought about which habitats each animal lived in to help us. Then we began to think about what each animal ate to make a food chain. We learnt the arrow means ‘is eaten by.’

Year 1 Handas Surprise

This week we have been reading 'Handas Surprise.' We have completed lots of writing activities in our provision, including ordering the story, writing lists of fruit, labelliing animals and describing the characters.

Reception Willow Class make bread

This week the children in Willow class have been reading the traditional tale 'Little Red Hen'.  After reading the story we talked about the different ingredients we would need to make bread.  We found out that we needed flour, yeast, water, salt and olive oil.  We all went up to the kitchen to make some bread, just like the Little Red Hen.  We measure followed the recipe and measure the correct amount of flour and water.  We added some yeast,  salt and olive oil and mixed it together to make dough.  It was very important tha we kneaded the dough to make sure that the bread would rise in the oven.  Once the dough was silky smooth we put it in a bowl and waited for it to rise.  We then baked it in the own for 45 minutes.  The children enjoyed tasty the bread when we took it out of the oven.

Year 4 - Changing States of Matter

This week, we looked at changing states of matter. This half term, we have been focusing on solids, liquids and gases. So today we looked at what the terms are called when they change from one to another. We started the lesson by holding a piece of chocolate (solid) in our warm hands. This made the chocolate melt and this happened because we increased the temperature. Later in the lesson, we looked at whether salt would make ice melt quicker. It did because the salt and ice melt to make saltwater and that has more particles in it.
