Ella-Rose wins the National Literacy Trust poetry prize!

During Thursday's assembly, Ella-Rose was presented with a bundle of books by Get Blackpool Reading as she won the National Literacy Trust poetry competition. Here is Ella-Rose’s poem:
"Litter, litter goes in the bin,
To throw it on the ground is a really big sin.
The earth is home to lots of creatures and bugs, they don't come in our home and throw litter on rugs.
Dont sin it, bin it! working together we can win it."
Ella's class were also given their own copy of "The Creature Choir" by David Walliams. Well done to everyone who took part!
Year 6 - Manchester Museum Visit

Today Year 6 went on a trip to Manchester Museum to support their learning so far. This involved areas such as:
Fossils
Dinosaurs
Ancient Egypt
Classification
Evolution
Archaeology
The children had a wonderful time bringing their learning to life and being given the opportunity to observe artifacts from a range of periods of time.

This week year 5 have begun their poetry journey by looking at didactic cinquain poems. After reading several examples, pupils identified the features, layout and language of cinquain poems and discussed what they liked and disliked about them. In this lesson, pupils worked together to create a cinquain poem about a thunderstorm before working with a partner to create a beach-themed poem.

Building on our learning so far this term, pupils composed a tune to play over the top of a 'K pop' backing track, called 'Look into the Night'. The track has a 4:4 time signature and pupils were asked to use a 5 note scale in C. We had a great time creating and listening to our own 'K pop' songs!

Our outdoor classroom provides lots of wonderful opportunities for our children to develop their own ideas and learning. This week they have been exploring the water area and making picnics and delicious cups of tea. They loved looking for strawberries on our strawberry plants and built an ice cream shop using bricks. These ideas all came from the children as they used the avalible resources in their own way.
Year 3 explore how water is transported in a plant!

In Science we investigated how water is trasported through plants. We had flowers, cups, celary, food colouring and water. These were placed on the children's desk and they were to decide how to use these resources to show water being transported. We placed the flowers in cups of water and food colouring. Through the next 24 hours, we observed the flowers change colour. The leaves, inside the stem, the buds and the petals all started to dye.

This week we have been enjoying a great story called Bumble Bear all about a bear who loves honey so much he decides to join bee school! We have been exploring the striped pattern of the bumble bee, learning how bees make honey and making our own bees out of playdough. The children have also been following a step by step guide to draw a bee - great for learning how to follow instructions! Its been a very buzzzzzy week!
Year 3- Forest School Fun Part 2

Week 2 of Froest School was a blast! We started by looking at the ponds and we noticed that they were drying up and that our tadpoles were in need of rescuing. Some of us dedicated our time to filling the pond back up and we loved to see the tadpoles swimming again. We also used tools to shave twigs and then used natural resources to dye them. Finally, we used shovels to get ready to plant our own courgettes.

This lesson in Music, Year Three looked at composing along to the song ‘He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands”. The children moved from using the pulse to create music to moving notes onto a stave.
Year 3- Forest School fun returns!

This week the children of Year 3 went back to our forest school. The children enjoyed the opportunity to get back to nature and observe how the area had changed through the session. We really loved looking at the tadpoles and even spotted a few frogs!

In this lesson we focused on the different parts of a plant. The children took apart plants to see parts such as the stem, roots, root hairs, petals, flowers and buds.

Today we built on our knowledge of recognising a half of an object or shape to now find a half of shape or an object. Throughout todays lesson, we had lots of opportunities to practically find and make half using pictures, objects and shapes. We experimenting different ways of making a half using a range of resources, reinforcing that a half means ‘one of two equal parts.’

This week in Reception the children have visited out school pond area. We have been learning about the different animals that live in the pond and what they need to grow and survive. We observed the pond life and spotted some tadpoles. We observed them in the pond and then took some of them back to our classroom. We put them in a tank and have been wtching how they grow and change.

Today, we had a very special visit from vicars from the local church Matt and Matthew. They came in and discussed how the church is a community for members of the congregation and shared that they pray and sing together when they attend. They also talked to us about the importance of praying and reading the bible and how this guides Christians lives. Lastly, they shared with us the clothes they wear and how they conduct communion by members of the congregation sharing wine (blackcurrant juice) and bread.

In assembly on Monday, we spoke about Mental Health Week and the focus being anxiety. We discuss things that might be going through our minds and what we could do to help ourselves.

This week, we continued our studies of South America, The Amazon and The Amazon Rainforest. We looked at lots of pictures and compared the two cities. We then annotated our flip chart papers using Human and Physical Geography vocabulary such as river, rainforest, city, capital city, rural and urban.

In our topic of Stop Motion animation we created short films from still pictures. We used onion skinning techniques to know where our previous picture were so that our changes were small. We made sure not to include our own hair/fingers in the photos to ensure consistency in the finished clip. Some people even added sound (planes and trains) to our animations. We were inspired by our Science of Growth and the WW2 topic using steam trains and fighter planes to create our animations.

Today we were very excited to be able to use the Chromebooks! We began by thinking about how we can paint using computers and we were introduced to 'Paintz.' We explored all of the different tools available and began to choose appopriate shapes and colours to create a digital picture in the style of an artist. We looked at art work created by Eric Carle and created a picture in this style.

What an amazing day at Blackpool Zoo! The pupils all had a fantastic time, their behaviour was a credit to the school and their families, and they walked there and back again without a moan. We saw many of the wonderful animals, including: ring-tailed lemurs, monkeys, giraffes and a close-up with the red panda, and we also had talks from the zoo's education team about sea lions, elephants and penguins. Khari the lion has been returned to Blackpool zoo into his new enclosure, and has been out exploring for the first time this week. It was great to see him back again!
Reception- Learning Fundamental Skills in PE

This week in PE, Reception have been improving their fundamental skills of jumping, running and stepping up onto a bench. The children were split into teams and had to jump off the bench, grab a cone and then jump back onto the bench.

Year 2 Making good behavioral choices

This week, Year Two explored different types of behaviours and discussed the importance of making good choices in regards to our actions and behaviours. We talked about what good behaviour make look and sound like before sorting a range of actions into good choices and poor choices. Also, we discussed how we are in control and it is important to have self-control at all times to allow us to make good choices.
Reception Find out about the lifecycle of the buterfly

This week the children in Reception have been learning about the lifecycle of a butterfly. The children have been observing our classroom caterpillars, watching them grow and change.

The children have been getting creative painting and collaging caterpillars, cutting and sticking the lifecycle and writing sentences to explain whats happening.

Nursery have been working hard developing their number skills this week. During our Bug in a Jar activity, the children rolled a dice and used their subitisng skills to say how many spots were on the dice. They then had to count out the matching number of bugs to go in the bug jar.
Nursery Superworm is Super Strong!

This week we have read the story "Superworm" about a worm with super strength. The chidlren have been busy exploring length by making longer and shorter worms and adding colours to worms to create a repeating pattern. In the story, Wizard Lizard has a magic flower, the children have been busy trying to create their own magical flowers!
Year 3- Boundary's WW2 Museum!

Today we had our very own History Museum with artefacts from WW2. We explored these and read information to help us to answer our key question for the lesson 'How did Britain stand firm during WW2?' We found out that Britain were prapred with gas masks, evacuated children, rationed food, implemented the Home Guard, had bomb shelter and also put women to work in the factories.
