Today we had a visit from Matthew and Matthew, who are both part of various churches in and around the area. We had some great conversations about temptation and sacrifice. Matthew told us about the old testament and stories of Hebrews wanting to follow God way back in Ancient Egyptian times and God's followers writing to one of the first churches in Romans times asking about living sacrifice. The children asked some brilliant questions and we had a great afternoon.

This half term in Year Two we have been dancing. We have created our own dance to Matilda's Revolting Children as our class author is Roald Dahl. During the weeks we have really been focusing on dancing to the music using our emotion thinking about the lyrics and how the children would be behaving. Whilst improvising we had to think about the different levels of the dance and ensuring we were in time.

This week we have read the story Supertato as an introduction to our next Reading into Writing journey - letters. Throughout the week, letters from characters in the story have arrived in our classrooms! We have read each letter and found the features using a set criteria. One day one of the letters arrived but it was all mixed up! The Evil Pea set us a task to put the letter back in order if we wanted a chance to save Supertato. He has been causing all sorts of mischief this week!

In RE our Question for the Year is 'Who should we follow?' and today we learned about who Sikhs follow, from Mrs. Kaur, a Sikh at our school. She told us about how Sikhs celebrate this festival of the new year called Vaisakhi and remember the Panj Pyare becoming Baptised into the Khalsa. We explained the 5 K's and how they were symbol and important to showing committment to faith. We talked about the special clothes that Sikhs wear for celebrations. We discussed the values that Sikhs live by and commitments that they show to other people and how everyone is equal. We recapped how the 11th Guru is the Guru Granth Sahib, which is a special book, that explains the teachings that Sikhs should live by.

As part of their learning about Christianity in RE, Year 6 have visited St. Marks Church to understand more about the events of Holy Week in the run up to Easter.
We have been learning about how Holy Communion represents the blood and body of Christ in some denominations of Christianity, and how it becomes Jesus' body through transubstantiation in the Catholic Communion.
We met with Father Matt and Alison who lead us through the events of Holy week and we asked questions to further understand why Christians believe that Good Friday is a Good day.

As part of our journey into forces, we have been learning about levers, pulleys and gears. In this lesson, pupils used lego pieces to create a 'drive train' of cogs and investigated what happened when they turned the handle. We learned that smaller cogs turned faster, but larger cogs created more power. Also, if a cog is turned clockwise, the next cog will always turn anticlockwise.
Year 1 Roles and Communication
Date: 28th Mar 2023 @ 7:25pm
Today we began our lesson by reflecting on our journey so far and our key question ‘why do Christians say that God is a ‘Father.’ We learnt that Christians see the church as a family who support and care for each other. We then moved onto reflecting on the roles we each play within our families.
At the top of the tree, on the leaves, we identified the roles we each play. At the bottom, on the roots we identified our trusted adults and in the middle we identified how we feel when talking to someone about our feelings. We then shared our thoughts together as a class.

Although it is now the Spring season, we must not forget to still feed the birds for a little while longer.
The weather can still be quite cool and there is not quite enough natural food for the birds at the moment , such as caterpillars, berries and flies. It s also nesting season so the birds need to be well fed to produce eggs!
Reception have, therefore, been busy making their own bird feeders for the outdoor areas.
"We used lard and bird seeds and nuts" Esmee.
"Mix it all together!" Clio.
"Put it in the cup and hang it in the trees" Neveah.
"The birds can eat them now they're in the trees" Devon.

Over the past few weeks the children in Reception has been learning about Space. The children have taken part in lots of space activities in the classroom including counting moon rocks, reading books about space, making rockets out of recycled materials, using 2D shapes to make rockets and using small world characters to create their own narratives. We read the story 'Whatever Next' and used the props and pictures at the story telling table to retell and sequence the story correctly. As a class we explored what the moon would been like if we visited it, comparing it to Earth. We explored what it was like when Neil Armstorng landed on the moon and why it is important to wear the correct clothing. We talked about how the mooon orbits the Earth and how and why it changed shape in the sky. We also explored the different planets in the solar system and found out which were the closest and furthest from the sun.
"The Earth has land and water on it. That's why it's blue and green" Alfie
"Mercury is the closest to the sun" Kit
"The Earth has one moon and it goes round it" Skylor

Over the past few weeks some of the children from Reception have been attending ballet club. They have been working extremly hard to practice their ballet dance to the music 'Sugar Plum Fairy'. The children listened carefully, worked as a team and demonstrated lots of our Boundary characteristics. The made sure they pointed their toes and moved elegantly in time to the music. The children performed their dance at our Boundary Budding Stars event infront of approximately 120 parents and carers. They did a very a fantastic job. Nursery enjoyed taking part in the whole school Art Day. Our first task was to make the backgrounds for the display that is going to be created from all the art work. The children used sponges, rolllers, tights filled with rice and washing up brushes to create some grass, sky and a road. The rest of the school were using collage to create their art work so we joined in with this by making some collage bugs.

For Art Day, pupils in year 5 were asked to create a collage and drawing of a famous Blackpool landmark. After discussing the landmarks, such as Blackpool Tower and Central Pier, pupils created a page of ideas in their sketchbooks. After that, pupils chose a landmark and found an image of it to reproduce for their final piece of work. The children used a range of materials to make a collage background, before drawing a pencil sketch of their landmark.

This week we have been learning all about shapes in nursery. We have been identifying a square, rectangle, triangle and circle and have started to learn the properties of each shape. The children have explored shape through printing, buildling, sorting and by finding shapes in everyday objects. We have also been looking at how we can arrange shapes to make pictures and have created a rocket and a house using shapes.
