Year 1 RSE

This week we have taken part in our RSE lessons. Today we read a story that helped us understand how children grow and change. We took it in turns to use Tilly our talking teddy to answer key questions about the story and help us understand that babies need care and support, whilst older children can do more by themselves. We also looked at lifecycle picture cards and worked together to order the pictures from youngest to oldest. Finally, we talked about things we can do now that we couldn't when we were babies.

Year 2- Yoga

This half term, Year Two have completed the Yoga unit 'I am super'. We have thought about how our body feels during certain movements and how to feel strong and powerful. We concentrated on improving our balance during the different poses and being as still as possible whilst breathing steadily. 

Year 1 and Year 2 Colouring Club

This half term, some children from Year 1 and Year 2 have enjoyed coming to colouring club. We have completed lots of different colouring tasks, including mindfulness colouring and colouring to music. 

Nursery Invite you to Tea

The children cooked up a real treat in the mud kithen this week! If apples, carrots, flowers and a dash of mud are your cup of tea then head over to the Nursery Mud Kitchen! The children worked hard chopping and mixing. It was wonderful to see them working together and sharing cutlery. There was a great discussion about the inside of an apple as they discovered a star shape where the pips had been and how we can grow apple trees from the pips. 

Nursery Explore Cloud Dough

The children had a bit of a shock this week when what they thought was playdough turned out to be cloud dough! Cloud dough has a differernt texture and consistancy to playdough but is still great for developing those fine motor muslces and is a great discussion point. Through exploring the dough, the children discovered that it is very crumbly but when you squeeze it tightly in to a ball it will all stick together. They also discovered how messy it is as there was flour all over them and the the floor! 

Year 6 - Communication in relationships

Year 6 began their RSE week with sessions based around communication in relationships. This included looking at what makes a healthy and unhealthy relationships and what characteristics we want in people that we have relationships with. We also looked at different ways of communicating with others online and how we can keep ourselves safe.

Year 6 - Algebra

Our most recent unit has been algebra and the children have done exceptionally well with their learning. They have learned how to substitute letters and shapes for numbers, use funciton machines to find inputs and outputs and they have also been able to work out missing numbers in equations.

Year 1 The Attic

Today some of us enjoyed a visit to The Attic! We listened to a story together before having a chance to look at some books on our own. We are looking forward to coming back and spending some more time enjoying all the different books in the library!

Year 1 Caring For Our Natural World

Today we looked at images of environmental issues and discussed together why a Muslim might be concerned about these issues and what they might want to do as a result of their concern.

Year 4 - RSE

This week is RSE week. Our theme for RSE in Year 4 is puberty. We split into a class of girls and a class of boys so that everyone felt comfortable talking about their own puberty journey. Both classes learnt about both male and female puberty. We started the lesson by looking at the lifecycle and deciding where in the lifecycle we think puberty happens. Then we looked at how female and male bodies change on the outside as well as on the inside.

Year 4 - Musical compositions

This week, we had a go at composing our own music using Charanga for the song we have been learning 'Bringing Us Together'.

Year 5 - Up in the Attic

This week pupils in year 5 visited The Attic to select a reading book from the school's library. After finding a book and discussing it with friends, pupils spent time reading in the relaxing, comfortable space.

Year 1 Addition on a Number Line

Today we revisited addition on a number line whilst working with numbers within 20. We recapped how to read addition number sentences, which number we need to start counting from on our number line and how many jumps we need to do to find our answer. 

Year 2- Hinduism

We have been learning about Hindu Dharma this half term in Year 2, and today Birch Class had the absolute pleasure of welcoming a member of our class who shared her religious traditions as a Hindu. She brought in some beautiful Murtis from her home shrine to help explain who she worships at home. It was so fascinating to hear about her beliefs and the significance of the Murtis in her family’s practices. The children had a fantastic morning filled with cultural exchange!

Acorns - Chinese New Year

This week Acorns have been exploring the celebration of Chinese/Luna New Year. We have had lots of fun exploring a variety of multi-sensory activities to develop our awareness and understanding.

Incorporating the theme through maths, mark making Chinese symbols, making lanterns in art and learning about the Great Race in our sensory story. We had fun racing the animals to see who would win. 

We loved watching dragon splat during 'Bucket' time, developing our focus and attention skills. We also had a dancing dragon moving to the drums. We recreated this during PE becoming the dancing drag in and making our own beats to move too. 

 

Nursery Hunt for Treasure

Nursery have been having lots of fun being pirates this week and to end things off they went on a Treasure Hunt! We discovered a treasure map and the children were very good at identifying all the familair features on the map to find the treasure. They were very excited to discover a treasure chest full of gold coins, gems and most importantly - chocolate! 

Nursery Create Story Maps

In Nursery we have a focus story that we base our learning around for 1 - 2 weeks.The children become familair with the story and are able to retell it using probs and pictures. To support this, we have started to create story maps where the children place pictures in the correct order to retell the story. The chidlren are becoming familair with the vocabulary of first, next, then and finally, 

 

Year 1 Carnivore, Herbivore, Omnivore

After recapping on the animals groups we have learnt about this half term, we discussed our question for today’s lesson. We talked about what we already know about what animals eat and learnt three new key words to describe animal diets. We tried very hard to use our new vocabulary when sorting animals according to their diets.

School Council- OPAL Primary Play ideas.

The School Council had an important meeting with Mrs Webster regarding new sustainable play ideas for KS1 and KS2 to improve the quality of play at playtime.

They looked at lots of ideas for messy play, physical play, construction play, ball play etc and gave their ideas of what the children would like to use  on the playground during playtimes. 

This will help support and develop children's physical,social and emotional wellbeing as well as their mental health. They were all very excited about the prospect of a range of new and recycled equipment to use during their playtime.

 

"I'd love to role play, dress up and dance- it would be fun!" Izzy.

"I'd like to build with Lego" Elliott.

"Maybe we could have bikes some days or scooters..." Lewis.

"I like playing with small world figures" Jack.

Reception- Chinese New Year

Reception has been celebrating the Chinese New Year. We read the book The Chinese New Year Race and learned how every animal earned their place in the Chinese zodiac, made Chinese dragons, Chinese lanterns and took part in our very own Chinese dragon dance.

"The rat won the race- he climbed on the ox's back" Kayden.

"This year it is the year of the snake" Kevin.

"I like rice and sweet and sour sauce... that's Chinese food" Matilda

Year 4 - Forest School

Year 4 took part in their first Forest School of the year today. 

The children built dens, an musical theatre, played in the mud kitchen and spotted creatures. The children really enjoyed their time outdoors despite the mud!

Year 1 Similarities and Differences

This week Year 1 have learnt about similiarities and differences between ourselves and others. We have done lots of work to help us understand that we are all different but can still be friends with people who are different to us. We used Tilly our talking teddy to help us to work together and take turns. We also listened to the story 'It's ok to be different' by Todd Parr and drew a friend with characteristics that are different to our own.

Year 6 - Learn to Earn

As part of Boundary's work on careers, Year 6 enjoyed a morning working with Young Enterprise on their 'Learn to Earn' scheme. The children calculated the cost of their dream lifestyle and how much you would need to earn to live that lifestyle. We learned about the cost of living and the average starting salaries of different jobs in Lancashire. Then we discussed the importance of qualifications and the personal qualities and skills needed to do various jobs, which linked nicely with our Skills for Life.

Year 5 - Masterful Music

In Music our focus question is ‘How Does Music Improve Our World?’. In our third lesson we sung the Freedom is Coming song again, changing the key and the dynamics. We then used Chromebooks to composed using YUMU through charanga, composing using our own ABA structure using the notes provided recap Ternary form.

Book Club

This half term, the Book Club has been getting comfortable in The Attic and immersing themselves in the book, 'The Shop of Impossible Ice Creams - Big Berry Robbery' by our local, visiting author Shane Hegarty. In the story so far, we have met some very interesting characters including, Liam (aka Limpet, who is often dressed as a cucumber and smells of onions), the eccentric Mrs Cricket (who lives on a roundabout inhabited by fairies), the evil, rival ice cream shop owner Mr Fluffy and a chicken that walks around on a dogs lead called Curtis! Every Tuesday, we look forward to hearing the latest escapades of Limpet and his friends in their quest to discover who indeed has stolen the Miracle Berry- an essential ingredient for any ice cream parlour taking part in the Golden Sprinkle Awards!
