Year 4 - The Attic

Date: 12th Mar 2026 @ 8:51am

We loved going upstairs to visit the library this week. We took our class books and read that up there as well as choosing a library book for independent reading in class.

Year 5 - Music

Date: 11th Mar 2026 @ 5:23pm

The children first listened attentively to the traditional folk song “Erie Canal”, taking in its simple melody, catchy chorus, and the story it tells about life along the historic canal. They were encouraged to appraise the song, discussing elements such as the rhythm, instrumentation, and the narrative in the lyrics. Many noticed the repetitive, sing-along structure that makes the song memorable and easy to engage with.

After this, the children listened to a modern interpretation of the same song by Bruce Springsteen. This version had a different style and energy. The children compared the two versions, discussing how the mood, tempo, and instrumentation changed the feel of the song.

Year 4 - Learning About Sacrificial Love (Agapé)

Date: 11th Mar 2026 @ 4:56pm

This week in RE, Year 4 have been exploring the idea of sacrificial love, known in Christian teaching by the Greek word agapé. Agapé means selfless, unconditional love – choosing to care for others without expecting anything in return. We discussed how many Christians try to live this out in everyday life: by helping people in need, forgiving others, standing up for what is right, and showing kindness even when it is difficult.

To understand this more deeply, the children learned about Oscar Romero, a well‑known Christian figure who became Archbishop of San Salvador. Motivated by his faith and by Jesus’ example of sacrificial love, Romero spoke out against injustice and defended poor communities, even though it put his own life at risk. His courage and compassion helped the children see what agapé can look like in real‑life action.

The class then had the opportunity to respond with their own thoughts and ideas, and then they designed their own Romero crosses, explaining how the colours and symbols represented his message of love and hope.

We are incredibly proud of the thoughtful discussions Year 4 have had and the empathy they’ve shown throughout this unit.

Year 3 - Royal Ballet

Date: 11th Mar 2026 @ 4:55pm

In our third Royal Ballet lesson, Year 3 dancers began by focusing on posture, ensuring long spines and lifted chests before moving into first position and finishing our warm-up with a graceful révérence. We then recapped last week’s creative work, exploring our spiralling galaxies and collecting stars. The children practised making expansive movements, using sweeping port de bras, gentle turns while spotting a fixed point, and experimenting with balances at different levels—remembering to engage their abdominal muscles for control.

Next, we returned to first position to work on pliés, concentrating on alignment and smooth, controlled bending of the knees. We followed this by developing arm movements to coordinate with the lower body.

The children also enjoyed working with a partner, using mirroring to build focus and coordination. Before finishing, they skipped across the hall, lifting their knees high and swinging their arms rhythmically. We ended with energetic leaps across the hall, crossing from different sides with expression and joy.

Reception- Waste Week in Reception

"Only paper and card can go in the brown bag" Raya.

Eco- Waste Week 2026

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 4:54pm

Waste Week is a national campaign aimed at helping schools reduce food and plastic waste while engaging students in sustainability education.

This year we are focusing on reducing food waste in school and also at home.

Over 10 million tonnes of food are wasted in the UK every year!Wasting food wastes money, water, energy, and time.

When we waste food, we also waste all the resources used to grow, transport, and store it.

The law says: schools cannot mix food waste with other waste. Schools must recycle food properly.Schools must sort all recyclables(paper, glass, metal, food etc.).

Our Eco Warriors will be ensuring everything gets recycled correctly and less food is wasted at lunchtime.

"Don't take too much from the salad bar if you can't eat it" Darcy.

"Use leftovers to make another meal" Albie

"If you have to leave food put it in the new compast bin" Esme.

"Eat food before it goes out of date" Ellie- May

Year 6 - Parkour

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 3:47pm

🏃‍♂️ Parkour Session 3 – Vaulting & Safe Landings!

Today, Year 6 took part in their third exciting Parkour session, building on the skills they’ve already started to master. This week’s focus was all about vaulting and landing safely — two essential Parkour techniques that help us move confidently and in control.

🤸 Learning to Vault

We used a range of low equipment so everyone could practise safely and try out new movements at their own pace.

Pupils worked together in small groups to learn how to:

  • 👀 Keep their eyes looking forward
  • ✋ Use their hands to support and guide their movement
  • 🦵 Swing their legs smoothly over the equipment
  • 🦶 Stay light on their feet

It was brilliant to see everyone challenging themselves and celebrating each other’s progress!

🛬 Landing Safely

A key part of Parkour is making sure we land with control and care. Today we practised:

  • 🦵 Bending our knees to absorb impact
  • ⚖️ Keeping our balance centred
  • 🤫 Landing softly and quietly
  • 💪 Using our arms for extra stability

With each jump, pupils became more confident and more aware of how their bodies move.

Year 6 - Narrative Writing

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 3:42pm

📚 This half term, we have been developing our narrative writing skills by creating our own stories inspired by Rock, Paper, Scissors.

🎬 To begin, we watched a short silent film that introduced us to the three main characters—Rock, Paper, and Scissors. Without dialogue, we had to pay close attention to their actions, expressions, and interactions to understand the emotions and relationships portrayed in the video.

🧠 As a class, we discussed what we thought the characters were feeling, why certain events happened, and how their personalities could be shown through descriptive writing. We also explored how music, movement, and timing in the video helped build tension and atmosphere.

✍️ Using the film as our inspiration, we planned and wrote our own narrative version of the story. We focused on developing:

  • 🌟 Strong character descriptions
  • 🌈 Detailed settings
  • Powerful verbs and figurative language
  • 📖 Clear story structure with a beginning, build-up, conflict, and resolution

🖊️ Each pupil then drafted their story, edited it carefully, and created a polished final version. We are extremely proud of the creativity, imagination, and effort shown in every piece.

🌟 Have a read through some of our fantastic stories and see how we brought the characters of Rock, Paper, and Scissors to life!

Year 6 - Travelling by Tuba

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 3:37pm

Today, our school was filled with excitement, rhythm, and a whole lot of noise as we welcomed Travelling by Tuba for a fantastic day of music-making!

We kicked things off with a lively assembly, where we were introduced to an amazing collection of instruments from all around the world. From deep, booming brass to unusual instruments we’d never even seen before, every demonstration came with a burst of fun facts, sound effects, and plenty of laughs. It was a brilliant way to discover just how diverse—and entertaining—music can be.

What an incredible experience! 🎵✨

Year 1- Noah's Ark

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 2:44pm

This week, Year 1 took a wonderful journey into one of the most well‑known stories in the Bible: Noah’s Ark. Our focus was not just on retelling the events, but on exploring the deeper meaning behind the story and understanding why Noah was chosen for such an important task.

We began by talking together about the world at the time of Noah. The children learned that the Earth had become a place where people were not making good choices, and God wanted to make a fresh start. However, Noah stood out.
We discussed how:

  • Noah was kind and good
  • He listened carefully to God
  • He always tried to do the right thing

Because of these qualities, God trusted Noah to build the Ark and keep his family—and the animals—safe during the great flood. The children had some brilliant ideas about why being trustworthy and doing the right thing mattered so much.

After exploring the story, we completed a fun activity where the children filled in the missing words in a short retelling of the events. This helped them practise:

  • understanding key vocabulary
  • recalling important details
  • thinking carefully about what happened and why

The children enjoyed showing how much they had remembered, and it sparked lots of great discussions.

To finish, Year 1 used their imaginations to draw pictures to match the parts of the story. From tall arks and stormy waves to animals marching in two-by-two, each drawing captured a different moment beautifully. It was wonderful to see how each child visualised the events in their own way.

Year 1- Travelling by Tuba

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 2:40pm

Today, our school was filled with excitement, rhythm, and a whole lot of noise as we welcomed Travelling by Tuba for a fantastic day of music-making!

We kicked things off with a lively assembly, where we were introduced to an amazing collection of instruments from all around the world. From deep, booming brass to unusual instruments we’d never even seen before, every demonstration came with a burst of fun facts, sound effects, and plenty of laughs. It was a brilliant way to discover just how diverse—and entertaining—music can be.

In the afternoon, the fun continued with a hands-on workshop. Everyone had the chance to play a wide range of instruments, each with its own unique rhythm. Working together, we layered these rhythms to create our very own musical masterpiece. The room was buzzing with energy, teamwork, and creativity as we explored how different sounds can blend to make something amazing.

Travelling by Tuba gave us a day full of discovery, laughter, and unforgettable music. We learned that you don’t have to be a professional to enjoy making music—you just need curiosity, enthusiasm, and a willingness to try something new!

What an incredible experience! 🎵✨

Year 1 Science: Exploring Animals and Their Habitats!

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 2:34pm

This half term in Science, Year 1 have been busy becoming animal experts! Our topic has focused on animals and their habitats, and the children have absolutely loved learning about the amazing places animals live around the world.
We began by exploring hot and cold places on our planet. The children enjoyed locating deserts, rainforests, and polar regions on a map and discussing what the weather is like in each location. They were brilliant at identifying which animals could survive in these environments — from camels in the desert to polar bears in the Arctic!
This week, we looked more closely at two exciting habitats:
🌧️ The Rainforest
🌊 The Ocean
The children worked together to identify different animals that live in these habitats and thought carefully about why these animals are suited to their homes. They were fascinated by creatures such as tropical birds, sloths, jellyfish, and sea turtles.
Some children even created their own animal fact files, using information they gathered from a non‑fiction text. They worked independently to pick out interesting facts and present them clearly. The whole class enjoyed sharing what they had discovered — and we were amazed by how much they remembered!
Year 1 have shown fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm throughout this topic. We are so proud of their super science skills and can’t wait to continue exploring the natural world together.

Year 1- Supertato

Date: 10th Mar 2026 @ 2:28pm

Over the next couple of weeks, our focused book is 'Supertato'. This week, we have began to explore the new areas, retold the story of Supertato using items on the storytelling table and sequenced the story accurately. Throughout the next couple of weeks, we will continue to explore the story and describe the characters from the story.

Reception Willow Class visit the zoo

Date: 9th Mar 2026 @ 8:05pm

Today the children in Willow class had a fantastic time visiting Blackpool Zoo.  We enjoyed visiting all the different animals including the lions, giraffes, oenguin and gorilla.  We even got to see the new baby elephant.  Whilst visiting the different animals we found out lots of information about where the animals live and what they eat.  We also took part in a special workshop where we found our about the different animals habitats and got the opportunity to handle a range of different artefacts including a huge eleohant foot.  We also enjoyed a lovely picnic aswell as watching the sealion show.  A wonderful day enjoyed by everyone.

Reception describing animals

Date: 9th Mar 2026 @ 7:56pm

As part of our topic 'Let#s go Wild' we have be describing animals using a range of vocabularly in our oracy lessons.  Firstly we ensured we could name all the different animals and then bagan to explore their different features.

"The tiger is stripey" Cherry

"Elephants have a long trunk and big ears" Noah

"Giraffes have a long neck" Leena

We practiced building our own sentences using the widgets as a prompt.  Some of use even used adjectives and the conjunction and to extend our sentences further.  To help use reinforce our learning we drew, painted and created our own animals in the classroom provision.  We then used our phonic knowledge to add labels and begin to write simple sentences on our own.

Year 5 - Data Handlers

Date: 9th Mar 2026 @ 9:15am

So far this term, Year 5 have been exploring flat‑file databases. We began by creating our own simple databases on paper, which helped us understand how information can be organised into fields and records. The class discussed the advantages and disadvantages of paper databases, for example, how they are easy to create but difficult to sort or search quickly.

We then moved on to investigating real online databases, including ones about insects and countries. Pupils used their data‑sorting skills to filter and organise information, compare entries, and answer questions using the data.

The children are developing a great understanding of how databases work and why they are useful in everyday life.

Eco- World Book Day-Swap Don't Shop!

Date: 6th Mar 2026 @ 12:27pm

This week we have been recycling costumes for World Book Day to reduce waste and to encourage recycling and sharing.

Many shop-bought costumes are only worn once and then discarded, contributing to textile waste. In addition, a large proportion of mass-produced costumes are made from synthetic materials, which contribute to plastic pollution and microfibre shedding.

By swapping costumes instead of buying new, families can save money while reducing waste and carbon emissions associated with textile production. It’s also an opportunity to encourage creativity - accessories are a really easy way to transform everyday clothes into a book character outfit! Whether it’s a simple hat, glasses, a scarf, or a prop, small additions can bring a favourite character to life without the need for a full costume.

Acorns - Three little pigs
