Year 5 Dancing through the Ages
Date: 6th Sep 2022 @ 7:27pm
Our first Topic in PE is Dance and in our preassessment, we discussed what we already knew about Dance styles through the ages! We weren't too sure about the history of dance, so we have started today with the Charleston from 1920's. We made a class motif using the counts of the music in the style of the Charleston including kicks and flicks! It was energetic and fun.

Then we investigated and found out why the Romans came here. Reasons included; we have great land, lots of cattle and lots of gold.
Year 2's Final Forest School Fun
Date: 22nd Jul 2022 @ 3:37pm
Yesterday saw our final forest school session of Year 2 before we begin completing our passport in Year 3. This week, we thought about our senses and took a moment to lie on the floor and think about the things we could see, hear, taste, smell and feel- some of us were lucky enough to be joined by a miniature spider. We then looked at different cloud formations and tried to see if we could see any different ones in the sky as well as playing a game of forest school bingo. To end the session, we toasted crumpets on the fire.

This week we completed our DT journey to make a fruit salad. Firstly, we designed our fruit salad, dicussing the ingredients and tools we would need to create our end product. We then learnt two safe ways to cut our fruit, the 'bridge' cut and the 'claw' cut. We practised these using play dough until we were ready to cut our ingredients. We designed our fruit salad using six fruits and a fresh fruit juice. We then use our skills to cut our fruit into bite size pieces to create an appealing fruit salad. It was then time to eat our lovely fresh fruit salad! Finally we evaluated our fruit salad, discussing things that had gone well and any improvements we would make next time.

Year 2's Forest School Fun Part 2
Date: 14th Jul 2022 @ 4:40pm
Another Thursday of forest school fun! Today our focus was finding mini beasts in the area and identifying them using a classification sheet. Once we had found lots of mini beasts we made them using modelling clay and drew pictures of them using felt tips. Whilst some classified bugs other children had plenty of fun in the mud whilst trying to bring worms to the surface. They made mud angels and were enjoying getting dirty jumping in and out of the mud pit. Finally, others had a nice time climbing trees under the supervision of forest school leader Claire.
Year 5 - A smashing History lesson
Date: 14th Jul 2022 @ 4:32pm
As part of our journey to Ancient Greece, we have been learning about the system of democratic government in Athens. Each year, the citizens could vote to remove a public servant if they felt they were becoming too powerful or if they were not doing a good job. A meeting was held in the agora (market), and people voted by scratching a name into a shard of broken pottery. If enough votes were cast, that individual was thrown out of Athens, or 'ostracised' for 10 years. The word 'ostracised' literally means 'judgement by shards'. We had a go at writing our own name into a shard of pottery using the Greek alphabet.

Today we learnt about the festival of Sukkot. We learnt that it is a festival which celebrates the harvest and the gathering in of the crops. We also learnt that during Sukkot Jews rememeber the years in the desert and they thank God for providing them with food and water and thank God for the harvest. To get ready for Sukkot, people start to build a sukkah. We learnt what this means and the different criteria for a sukkah. We then discussed and designed our own, before making them out of a range of different materials. We followed the criteria to ensure our sukkah had three walls, a roof made from something natural and decorations of things from the harvest. We worked successfully as a small team to plan and problem solve with our group members.

We then went on to learn about the factors behind the growth and subsequent decline of Blackpool and how the town has suffered because of cheap foreign package holidays.
Year 3- Choral speaking champions!
Date: 12th Jul 2022 @ 6:00pm
Across the school children have been learning a range of poems to perform in our choral speaking competition. Year Three have spent the last few weeks rehearsing and preparing our poem 'Don't Quit' by Edgar Albert Guest. We chose this poem because of it's link to growth mindset, by sending the message that we mustn't give up when things seem challenging.
Year Three did an amazing performance today which made us become KS2 choral speaking champions!

On Friday we gave money to our chosen charity 'Water Aid'. In an assembly the school council talked about the charity and how money raised can change the lives of those who don't have clean water to drink. We passed a bucket of water all the way round the school, from Nursery to Year 6. This was to make us think of the long journeys some people make to get their water, which can often be dirty and full of disease. As a school, we raised £112.84 - we hope the money will help those less fortunate than us.
