Year 3- Dancing with charcoal!

Date: 29th Nov 2022 @ 1:05pm

In Art, Year Three have been exploring how to draw with charcoal. We were inspired this week by the artist Heather Hansen who mixes art with dance! We noticed that with gestural drawing we use long sweeping movements and the use of our whole body to create our masterpieces!

Nursery - Aliens Love Dinopants!

Date: 24th Nov 2022 @ 11:28am

It's been pants crazy in nursery this week! We have been reading the story "Aliens Love Dinopants" all about aliens and dinosaurs who share a love of underpants! The children have been busy designing their own underpants and creating their own aliens. They really enjoyed blowing paint with a straw and adding eyes to make an alien! They have been counitng aliens, matching pants with the same pattern and feeding aliens at the funky fingers table! One day we even discovered some alien eggs. We waited patiently until they were ready and then we help the baby aliens hatch from the eggs!

Nursery Explore Autumn

Date: 16th Nov 2022 @ 10:49am

Nursery have been exloring Autumn this week. We have talked about all the signs that it is Autumn including colourful leaves, conkers and acorns on the ground and the weather getting a bit cooler. The children have loved looking at Autumn objects with a maginifying glass and talking about what they could see. We also made some great leaf people - everyone looked different!  To help us develop our subitising skills, we picked a card with 1,2, or 3 dots on and then had to add the same number of leaves to a tree and for our fine motor muscles the chilren put loom bands on pinecones and used tweezers to move conkers in to a bowl.

Remembrance Day

Date: 14th Nov 2022 @ 9:55pm

On Friday 11th November, Boundary Primary took part in a whole school act of Remembrance.

It began with all the children, from Nursery to Year 6, planting the poppies they had made in our Remembrance Garden.

Then, at 11am, the school came together for an outdoor assembly. We all observed a two minutes silence and listened to important information and historical facts about the significance of the poppies we were wearing.

During the week, each class took part in painting, drawing or sketching a poppy and each year group was also given a silhouette of a soldier which they were asked to decorate around the theme of Remembrance. This activity focussed all our minds on who we were remembering and why it is important to remember them. The completed soldiers were then displayed around the school hall and will remain there – helping us to think about those who gave their lives during war and those who continue to serve to keep us and our country safe.

Nursery Poppy Art

Date: 9th Nov 2022 @ 10:15pm

Nursery have been talking about Remembrance Day and why we wear poppies and then painted their own poppies. The children did a super job of painting a circle for the petals and lines for the stalk - they even made a small black dot in the middle. They selected the correct colours and the finished paintings were brilliant.

Nursery go off with a BANG!

Date: 9th Nov 2022 @ 9:55pm

There's been alot of pop, whizz, bang, whoosh and crackle in nursery this week as we have been celebrating Bonfire Night. The children enjoyed sharing their experiences of Bonfire Night and were able to recall the fireworks they saw. They described the fireworks using words like "big", "loud" and "bright". It was lovely to hear them talking about their experiences and making links between what they had seen and what their freinds had seen.

Year 6 Remembrance Day preparation

Date: 8th Nov 2022 @ 9:03pm

In Preparation for Remembrance Day on Friday, we have spent time this week making our poppies for our Remembrance Garden. We have also completed our piece of art work that links with the art we do in Yer 6. We have created large scale poppies and used a range of pictures to build up light and dark areas on the poppy.

Reception- Bonfire Night!

Date: 7th Nov 2022 @ 9:03pm

Remember, remember the 5th November...Reception have been talking about Bonfire Night, fireworks and keeping safe on this exciting time of  year!

We made firework pictures using loose parts, collaged rocket fireworks and created a finger painting bonfire picture. How to keep safe was discussed by the children and reinforced by roleplaying outside.

"An adult must light a firework" Harper

"Stand back- don't go near a firework you could get burned". Lennox

"Don't touch sparklers - they burn" Halleigh

Year 2 Poppy Art

Date: 6th Nov 2022 @ 11:08am

In the lead up to Remembrance Day on 11th November, Year Two have been creating poppies in Art. We glued two sticks together to create the cross and used our weaving skills to weave red wool through a template. This created a cross on the front and a square on the back, when we removed the cardboard template it created the shape of the poppy. It took a lot of perseverance to ensure we followed the number sequence correctly but everyone did very well!

Year 4 Art for Remembrance

Date: 3rd Nov 2022 @ 1:54pm

Today we have studied poppies and use our observational drawing skills to draw poppies, shading them with pencil crayons carefully. The aim is that we make a repeating pattern that can be used as part of our Remembrance display Soldier. We have taken great care and concentrated, whilst listening to music that would typically be played and performed at the cenotaph, including Abide with me and Elgar's Nimrod played by the orchestra. This allowed us to reflect on the soldiers who have fought or died for our country.

Nursery Get Spooky!

Date: 2nd Nov 2022 @ 11:37am

Enter Nursery if you dare this week! There have been some very spooky goings on as we celebrated Halloween. We read the story "What's in the Witch's Kitchen" and turned our homecorner in to a witches kitchen - eye ball soup anyone? The children developed their fine motor skills by hammering witches fingers in the a pumpkin and practised counting by sticking legs on to a spider. It's been a very creepy week!

Reception- It's Halloween!

They enjoyed counting out spooky objects and ordering numbers, making repeated patterns with scary objects, creating their own potions, carving pumpkins, collaging bats and pumpkins, role playing in the witches kitchen and even using our phonics to sound out spooky words.  We have been talking about different family traditions and discussed how different families celebrate in a range of ways.  The children have had a fantastic time.  Have a look at our wonderful learning.

Nursery Go On A Bear Hunt

Date: 19th Oct 2022 @ 2:51pm

Nursery have been reading the story "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" By Michael Rosen and have been having such a good time! The story has a repetitive text which is great for encouraging children to join in with stories. From the story we have had so many wonderful experiences including adding music to the story, making binoculars, making bears and making some delicious biscuits. To finish of the week we even went on our very own Bear Hunt and found the bear hiding in the woods with a delicious treat for us.

If you would like to share the story with your child here is a link to the author reading the story

Year 3- Prototypes

Date: 17th Oct 2022 @ 7:55am

In DT, we made prototypes. Some of us used cotton but some used felt! We discovered that it was much easier to use fabric pens on cotton and therefore we think this would be a better material for the final design. When we evaluated the prototypes, we decided that the colouring needed to be much needed and that small areas of colour would be easier. We tried different sizes and decided that 20cm x 20cm was a good size. Next time, we would use more resources such as felt, buttons and sequins to make the designs more interesting.

Reception and the Owl Babies

From the story the chidlren have interacted with a dragon small world and made up stories, developed their maths skills by feeding dragons the correct number of gems and developed their finger muscles by trying to balance dragon eggs on golf tees!

Year 1 Spirals

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 7:37pm

This week we began our new art pathway, which is all about spirals! We started by looking at different examples of spirals, including those in nature. We then drew 'whole body' spirals outside before bringing this learning inside to create our own spiral drawings using chalk and pastels. We focussed on drawing our spiral from a centre point and creating clear lines that curve round.

Year 5 Artists are Map Makers

Date: 5th Oct 2022 @ 2:52pm

We began to create our maps. Based on of knowledge from the last few weeks of using typography, powerful images and ideas from great artists, we began to form our maps. Our success criteria was to have typography  on the map and some element of 3D work. We discussed the features of a map that we could include, based on our class novel, Kensuke's Kingdom and the map included in that book.

Nursery and The Owl Babies

Date: 28th Sep 2022 @ 10:05pm

Nursery have enjoyed reading "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell. The story is all about three baby owls who worry that their mummy won't come back when she flies off to hunt for some food. Of course everything is ok and their Mummy comes back! The children have been doing lots of owl based activites in continuous provision including making playdough owl babies, making owls at the craft table, building nests for the owls, using tweezers to pull worms out of the mud and retelling the story using our beautiful Owl Babies tuff tray. As well as all of this, we have also been practicing counting to 3 by putting 3 owls on a branch.

Nursery Meet The Colour Monster

Date: 23rd Sep 2022 @ 2:02pm

Take a look at our photos!

Year 5 Exploring Strong sketches

Date: 21st Sep 2022 @ 8:54pm

We explored using heavier, darker pencils and charcoal to sketch onto recylced maps this week, to continue our journey. Our aim was to make our sketches stand out against the print of the maps. We sketched mountains and animals with focus and some people really used the features of the maps to enhance their sketches.
