Year 5 - Digital Learning in RE
Date: 11th Jan 2024 @ 4:46pm
To support the pupils' learning in RE, we have been using an online resource called Kahoot!. Kahoot! is an interactive quiz that engages the pupils and helps them to learn the facts and knowledge required in the lesson. Using the Kahoot! over time also helps the children to commit the new knowledge to their long-term memory.
Year 4- Finding Features of News Articles
Date: 11th Jan 2024 @ 1:06pm
In Reading into Writing, Year 4 have been identifying structural and language features of newspaper reports and online news articles. Firstly, we looked at some examples of newspaper articles and highlighted the features that we noticed. After this, we used our digital literacy skills to look at some news articles online and were given post it notes to label the features that we found. We will continue to read and annotate a range of news articles and will plan and write our own news article in the next couple of weeks.
Year 2 - Which ship can hold the most weight?
Date: 7th Dec 2023 @ 7:27am
Last week, we conducted an experiment as part of our Everyday Materials unit to test which ship can hold the most weight? We made different sized boats using tin foil and placed counters on the top, counting how many counters it took until the ship sunk. This week, we used our results to use an online program to record our data in a block chart. We thought about the axis and giving the chart a title as well as inputting our own data before we interpreted our results using the chart. We found that the biggest ship could hold the most weight whilst the smallest ship held the least. This is because we can spread the weight.
Date: 1st Dec 2023 @ 9:30am
This week, pupils in year 5 created a quiz game on Scratch. They coded an algorithm using 'selection' to make a 'true' outcome and a 'false' outcome depending on the user input. Pupils tested their programs and debugged it to make it run better.
Date: 24th Nov 2023 @ 2:12pm
Today we recapped what the internet is. Then we used our previously learnt image editing skills such as cropping and cloning to retouch images.
Date: 23rd Nov 2023 @ 2:52pm
This week Year 3 had our Together Time in which children work with their adults to see what they could teach them about Climate Zones. We started with a match up activity and then used our digital literacy skills to create a slide on a climate zone- including location, temperature and precipitation.
Date: 20th Nov 2023 @ 1:44pm
In RE we are learning about Islam. Today, we researched more about Eid Al-Fitr. We found out lots of information about Eid from around the classroom and then we used all the information we gathered as a table to make a Google Slide. This gave us chance to practise our digital literacy skills too.
Date: 9th Nov 2023 @ 4:03pm
Today, pupils in Year 6 were given the oportunity of taking part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) workshop. Working in small groups, they had to build a lego robot, which incorporated a small computer, lights and motors. Pupils then coded algorithms to guide their robot around a circuit.

Today, pupils in year 5 were given the oportunity of taking part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) workshop. Working in small groups, they had to build a lego robot, which incorporated a small computer, lights and motors. Pupils then coded algorithms to guide their robot around a circuit. The final challenge was to collect an item in their robot using a scoop or magnet. All the pupils had a great experience and learnt a lot about coding and engineering.
Date: 2nd Nov 2023 @ 2:12pm
Today we started our Storytelling through Drawing pathway. We research by ourselves using our digital literacy skills on the laptops about two illustrators called Laura Carlin and Shaun Tan. We then used all the research we found to make visual notes about one of the artists in our sketchbook.
Date: 17th Oct 2023 @ 6:52pm
This week we have been begun our grouping data unit of work. We have learnt that labelling, grouping and searching are important aspects of data and information and have begun to understand that to search data we need labels. Throughout the week we have completed different activities to describe objects using labels, match objects to groups, find objects with similar properties and compare groups of objects.
Year 6 - Composing with Computers
Date: 17th Oct 2023 @ 3:50pm
For the last two lessons we have used Charanga YUMU to compose and electronically transcribe our own composition using a 5-note set treble clef stave.
We reviewed our knowledge of note values and durations and created our own compositions using a mixture of crotchets, minims, dotted minims and semibreves. Some of us were able to create an ostinato (a repeating musical phrase).
Year 6 - Formulas in Speadsheets
Date: 12th Oct 2023 @ 3:25pm
We continued our computing journey through spreadsheets byt learning about formulas. We learned how to use formulas to multiply, add and subtract the values in different cells.
Date: 5th Oct 2023 @ 9:05am
In computing we have been doing programming and we have been learning how to use Scratch. This week we focused on creating an algorithm to make our sprite draw. We first of all explored an existing algorithm and identified how it worked. We then created our own and made our individual sprites draw.
Year 3- Perfecting programming!
Date: 14th Sep 2023 @ 8:41am
In Computing, Year 3 have been looking at using the program ‘Scratch’. We looked at how the blocks moved the sprite and when we looked inside the program we throught about how we could improve it.
Year 2 - Computing - Budding Photographers
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 8:21pm
For our first Computing unit of the year, Year Two are focusing on Digital Photography. We have been learning the steps needed to take a good photograph and how we can adjust the way we are holding our devices to improve the photographs we take. We have also been learning the difference between portrait and landscape images and experimenting with these, thinking carefully about which option a photographer might prefer depending on the subject of the photograph.
Year 6 - Computing: Spreadsheets
Date: 13th Sep 2023 @ 3:53pm
Today we began our new unit of spreadsheets in Computing. Today's session involved inputting data into a given table. We did this by rolling a dice 5 times and repeating the task. We then added each roll to the table.
Date: 19th Jul 2023 @ 3:38pm
This half term, Year Two have been exploring different ways to represent data using an online system linking our Computing and Maths learning. Throughout the unit we have explored creating tally charts, pictograms and today we finished the unit by using data to create a block diagram. We have really enjoyed the unit and putting our Maths statistics knowledge into Computing.
Date: 18th Jul 2023 @ 4:24pm
Today, we used the computers to create our hot write of a persuasive advert. We thought about making it appealing by using bright colours and exciting shapes as well as using persuasive language to persuased someone to visit either Antarctica, the rainforest or the desert. We used our Geography knowledge from hot and cold places to make sure we told some facts. We had to have lots of patience but enjoyed using the chromebooks for our writing.
Year 3- Brilliant branching database!
Date: 6th Jul 2023 @ 8:28am
In Computing we have started learning about branching databases. We have looked at catogorising questions into ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions. The children uses software to explore and build their own branching databases.
Date: 4th Jul 2023 @ 2:19pm
WOW! We cannot believe the perseverance from Year 4 today. They have shown all their learning from the last few weeks to explore repeated codes to make shapes and pictures. The children used forward (FD), pen up (PU), pen down (PD), RT (right turn), LT (left turn) and repeat (repeat code) on Turtle Academy to create their shapes and images. Year 4 were able to recognise angles in shapes to input the correct right or left turn.
Date: 20th Jun 2023 @ 2:40pm
We have had lots of fun writing letters and small words this week. We learned two new codes (PU and PD), then meant that we could have the pen up and pen down, so that we could separate the letters.
Date: 13th Jun 2023 @ 8:08pm
We used a website called https://turtleacademy.com/playground to begin our programming journey. First, we learned what different codes mean. For example, FD 100 means move forward 100 steps and RT 90 means rotate 90 degrees to the right. Everyone had a really good go at playing around with it to start. Then we had a go at getting the turtle to move to make numbers. As a challenge, some of us had a go at getting to turtle to write out our initials.
