Today we were introduced to telling the time to the hour using an analogue clock. We learnt the key words ‘o clock’ and that when we use the word ‘hand’ we are referring to the arrow on the clock face. We focussed on reading time to the hour using only the hour hand, before learning about the minute hand and that the hour hand is shorter than the minute hand. We recognised that when the minute hand is pointing directly to 12, we needed to look at the shorter hand to see which hour it is.

Reception have been learning all about Blackpool. We used the map to locate where Blackpool is and found out that it is on the coast. This mean it is near the sea. The children watched lots of different videos and looked at pictures to find out why different people choose to come and visit Blackpool. This included; Blackpool Tower, The ballroom, The Pleasure Beach, the illuminations, Blackpool Footbal club and the beach. We talked about our favourite attraction and why we like it. The children enjoyed looking at different artefacts and producing their own writing.

Nursery have been learning all about farms this week in preperation for the farm visit on Thursday. We read the story "Oliver's Milkshake" and learnt that we usually get our milk from cows, although you can drink goats milk too! We decided it would be nice to make our own milkshakes and voted to see who would like a strawberry milkshake and who would like rasberry. The winner was strawberry! So today we got to make a yummy, scrummy strawberry milkshake!

Today, we recapped telling the time to the nearest fifteen minutes including: o’clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to. We used our knowledge to play a game of bingo, making sure we had the correct times that matched before we could have the card.
Eco Warriors- Let's Count - Waste Week.
Date: 8th Jul 2024 @ 2:46pm
This year we participated in the Eco School's Waste Week- Let's Count!
It was launched with a whole school assembly where we looked at the amount of plastic we were able to recycle and what we weren't able to. It was quite astonishing only a very small percentage is actually able to be recycled- the rest goes to landfill.
As part of our BLT (Boundary Learning Together) each child took home a tally sheet where they counted the amount of different plastics they had in their house and compared how many items they were actually able to recycle.
We decided that, as a school, we needed to be mindful of buying items in a plastic container and, where possible, try not to use single use plastics.

In Geography, we learnt all about pollution that affects the coast. We considered how it this pollution happens and what damage it causes. We then thought about how we could solve our pollution problem and decided to go on a litter pick! We were shocked at how much we found and made a promise to keep our school clean!
Date: 4th Jul 2024 @ 2:23pm
This week we thought about how History linked to our local area. Year Three focussed on the local brand Fisherman’s Friends, and focussed on the work by Doreen Lofthouse. She was a local hero who donated lots to charity and funded many local projects in Fleetwood. We even tried some of the Fisherman’s Friends, the children’s opinions on them was very split!

Nursery did a wonderful science experiment this week to make a rainbow! We needed kitchen towel, felt tip pens and two small bowls of water. We coloured a small rainbow at the bottom of the kitchen towel and when we placed it in water, the rainbow grew! This is becasue the fibres in the kitchen roll have lots of little holes. Water is absorbed throught the kitchen roll becasue when the first water molecule sticks to it and begind to move up, it pulls the next water molecules up with it, like a chain!
Year 5 - Blackpool Presentations
Date: 4th Jul 2024 @ 10:48am
The Year 5 children who are not at PGL were busy yesterday putting all of their learning from our Heritage Day and Geography Day to the test to create a PowerPoint presentation all about Blackpool. The children had to talk about Blackpool and what it has to offer to try and persuade people to come to our lovely seaside town. Some children came to the front to present their powerpoint and they all did a fantastic job.
This was followed by PE in the afternoon where the children enjoyed a BenchBall tournament. An enjoyable day for all involved.
Date: 4th Jul 2024 @ 10:22am
For this year's Heritage Day, year 5 were asked the question, 'Why did Blackpool become a popular tourist resort?'
The pupils looked at a range of old photos to see how the town has changed over the past 150 years. Together we found out how the Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach, Winter Gardens and piers came about. Pupils used this information to support their writing of a newspaper to comemorate the visit of Princess Louise in 1912 - which was the beginning of the famous Blackpool Illuminations.
Date: 4th Jul 2024 @ 10:15am
Our key question was 'What has changed in our local area?'
We looked at maps and information online to find out about the £20,000,000 redevelopment of Grange Park. Using our geography skills, we collected information about the types of houses (131 new homes have been built) that have been built around the school, collated the data and presented our findings in a bar graph. We also did a Kahoot! quiz, with help from some parents, about the Grange Park redevelopment.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 7:36pm
Our key question was 'How do we get from Boundary to the beach and what will we see along the way?'
We found our route using maps in the morning and after lunch we walked the route. Along the way, using clipboards, we wrote down examples of human features and physical features we saw. We decided that there were much more human features than physical.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 3:47pm
Today, we participated in Geography Day thinking about the key question 'How has our local area changed?' We began by looking at our School on Google Earth and looking at what we could see on the aerial view picture, in small groups we labelled key things around our area. Then, we looked at the surrounding areas of school on Google Earth from 2022, focusing on Boundary Place and thought about what it looked like before going outside to see what we could find. We recorded findings through digital photographs and drawings. Our observations showed that the area has changed a lot and there are now lots of new houses and roads surrounding Boundary. We compared 2022 Boundary Place and current Boundary Place and thought about how this has affected the local area. We have enjoyed focusing on our local area the last couple of days and thinking about how changes can affect us.
Date: 2nd Jul 2024 @ 3:42pm
Today, we were joined by our parents for Together Time. We used a map of the playground to locate key areas where there was a piece of jigsaw to be found. They then used the pieces of the puzzle to build a world map. Once all the pieces were correct, we labelled the continents and oceans using an atlas to support us. Thank you to all the parents that joined us, we hope you enjoyed your morning!
