Year 6 - Measures

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 4:23pm

🧮 Hands-On Maths Fun!

Today our children enjoyed a practical maths session all about measures. They had the chance to explore and experiment with a variety of equipment, including:

  • 📏 Tape measures to check the length of different objects

  • 🫗 Measuring jugs to estimate and record capacity

  • ⚖️ Weighing scales to find the mass of everyday items

Through these activities, pupils practised estimating and then measuring accurately. This hands-on experience really helped them make meaningful connections with their classroom maths work, showing how numbers and measurements are part of the world around us.

Year 6 - Online Safety Talk

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 2:01pm

👮‍♂️ Our Visit About Online Safety

Today the police came to talk to us about Online Safety. It was really interesting and made us think about how we use the internet every day.

🌐 What We Might See Online

Sometimes the internet shows us things that aren’t nice. This could be:

  • Cruelty or bullying

  • Abuse

  • Inappropriate content

If we ever see something that makes us feel upset, the best thing to do is tell a trusted adult.

😴 Why Late-Night Scrolling Isn’t Great

We also learned about using phones, tablets, or computers late at night. The police explained that:

  • Screens can stop us from sleeping properly

  • Being tired makes it harder to concentrate in class

  • Putting devices away before bed helps us feel more rested

🛡️ How We Can Stay Safe

Here are some easy tips we talked about:

  • Limit screen time before bed

  • Use privacy settings

  • Talk to parents or teachers if something online worries us

✨ What We Learned

The internet can be amazing, but it’s important to use it wisely. By making smart choices, we can stay safe, happy, and focused.

Reception- Handwriting

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 11:23am

In Reception, we work very hard everyday learning how to form our letters correctly.

We remind ourselves how to hold our pencil using the correct grip and then repeat the letter formation rhymes we have learnt in phonics.

Our hard work is then celebrated each week in a whole school assembly where someone has the chance to be the Handwriter of the Week.

Reception learn about autumn

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 10:59am

Over this half term the children in reception have been learning about the season of autumn.  We had a fantastic trip to Salisbury Woods where we looked for signs of autumn and look for different autumnal animals living in the woods.  When we returned to school many of our oracy sessions were themed around autumn; exploring new vocabulary and using stem sentences to and widgets to build our own sentences.  We have also been learning to build on each others knowledge which has led to some fabulous discussions during carpet time.  Within continuous provision we have been painting autumn trees, exploring our autumn sensory tough tray and taking part in many activities in writing and maths linked to the theme of autumn.

"In autumn the temperature gets colder" Ava

"The days are shorter and it goes dark early" Theo

"Some animals hiberate" Rohan

"The leaves fall down and change colour" Sydney

"That's because there isn't lots of sun so they start to die" Lockie

Have a look at our fabulous learning.

Reception-The Gruffalo- Being Imaginative

Reception get creative!

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 10:51am

Over the past few weeks Reception have been reading the story 'The Gruffalo'.  As part of our learning we have been exploring using a range of different meduims and materials to create our own Gruffalos.  We painted them first focusing on the use of colour ensuring we remembered his orange eyes and purple prickles.  We then used a range of materials in the creative area to collage the Gruffalo adding specific details including tusks, a poisonous wart and purple prickles.  During continuous provision the children also had the change to use the playdough to make their own models of the Gruffalo.  Finally we explored how we could use recycled materials to make junk model Gruffalo.  We explored how we could fix, join and attach the different materials and boxes using masking tape.  The children worked really hard perserving even when it was tricky.  When they finished their models they were encouraged to talk about what they liked best about it and how it could be further improved.

Reception comparing length

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 10:39am

This week during maths we have being comparing length using the correct mathematical vocabularly.  The children then explored this during continuos provision making different length snakes out of playdough and ordering them from shortest to longest.  Th children were encouraged to compare the length using the vocabulary forom our oracy session.  The children also counted the correct links onto the snake heads and explained which was the longest and why.

"This snake is longer becuase 5 is more than two" Shiloh

"The green snake is longer than the red snake" Noah

Year 2 Get Busy Making Christingles! ✨

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 10:12am

It’s been a wonderfully festive week in Year 2 as the children got hands-on making their very own Christingles! As part of their learning about Jesus and the importance of this time of year for Christians, the class explored what each part of the Christingle represents — and of course, the highlight was adding the candle on top.

The children were fascinated to discover the symbolic meaning behind the candle: how its light reminds Christians of Jesus as the light of the world, shining hope and warmth even in the darkest season. There were lots of “oohs” and “aahs” as the candles were lit (safely!), and even more excitement as everyone proudly held up their finished Christingles.

To bring all their learning together, we held our own special Christingle service, giving the children a chance to pause, reflect, and think about the joy and hope that the coming weeks bring. It was a lovely moment of calm in the midst of the December buzz, and the children took part with such thoughtfulness.
A big well done to Year 2 for their creativity, enthusiasm, and beautiful reflections. It truly feels like the Christmas season has begun! 🎄🕯️

Year 6 - Drugs talk

Date: 28th Nov 2025 @ 8:52am

As part of our PSHE and Science curriculum, today we invited PCSO Debby Savage to talk to Year 6 about the effects and dangers of drugs and alcohol. The children were very sensible listening to what she had to say and asked some very good questions. We discussed smoking, vaping, alcohol and illegal/legal drugs and how they can affect our bodies.

Year 3 Cave Baby Role Play

Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 9:56am

In this lesson, children explored oracy skills by immersing themselves in the story Cave Baby. After listening to the book, pupils became different characters from the story, such as Cave Baby, the mammoth, and the parents. They used key phrases from the text alongside their own imaginative ideas to bring the narrative to life through role play. This activity encouraged expressive language, turn-taking, and active listening, while promoting confidence in speaking. By adopting character perspectives, children practiced using tone, gesture, and vocabulary effectively, deepening their understanding of the story and enhancing their ability to communicate creatively.

Year 3 - Reading into Writing

Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 9:49am

This week, our children have been developing their Oracy skills, focusing especially on tone and intonation as they read aloud the opening of their own traditional tales. Our new class story is set at Christmas, following a main character who adores the festive season—until a miserable goblin appears, determined to destroy Christmas and dampen their joyful spirit.

As the children shared their stories so far, they experimented with using warm, excited tones to capture the magic of Christmas, then shifted to grumbly, low voices to bring the goblin’s gloomy personality to life. It was wonderful to see them thinking carefully about how their voices can enhance meaning, atmosphere, and character.

The classroom was filled with expression, confidence, and creativity. We can’t wait to continue developing our tales and see how our young storytellers bring their festive adventures to life!

Redwoods - Mastering Multiplication

Date: 27th Nov 2025 @ 5:44am

Our Maths journey over the last two weeks has been to master multiplication and division. Working collabortively we have expllored these two mathematical terms using lots of physical resources. In groups and pairs we have investigated ways to group amounts, share equally and also how to record these clearly. towards the end of our journey we bgan to see the relationship bewteen division and multiplication, making links to our timestables.

Year 3 - Science

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 9:30pm

In this week's science lesson, we carried out a comparative test to explore friction. We wanted to find out which surface—carpet, foam, wood, sandpaper, bubble wrap or foil—would create the least friction so a toy car would travel the furthest.

We discussed fair testing, kept everything the same except the surface, and made our predictions. Using a ramp, we released the car and measured the distance it travelled before stopping.

We found that rough surfaces, like carpet and sandpaper, slowed the car down, while smoother ones, such as foil and wood, helped it travel further. A fun and simple way to see friction in action!

Year 3 - Together Time

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 9:27pm

This week, we were delighted to welcome our wonderful parents and carers into school for Together Time—a special opportunity for families to join their children in the classroom and experience learning side by side.

Our focus for the session was Design and Technology, and more specifically, 3D nets. This forms an important step in our DT journey as we work towards designing and creating our very own gift bags from nets.

Parents, carers, and children explored a range of hands-on activities together. They examined real-life packaging nets, experimented with magnetic tiles to build 3D shapes, and took part in a sorting activity to identify different types of nets. One of the highlights was investigating existing products—carefully deconstructing them to reveal the nets inside, then reassembling them to understand how each shape fits together.

It was wonderful to see families collaborating, problem-solving, and talking through ideas. The classroom buzzed with curiosity and creativity as everyone discovered just how much thought goes into turning a flat net into a 3D object.

A huge thank-you to all the parents and carers who joined us. Your involvement makes these learning experiences truly memorable for the children, and we can’t wait to share the next stage of our DT journey with you!

Nursery

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 9:08pm

Every Thursday the children have a PE session with our sports coach, Mr Ratcliff. The children learn a range of different skills from throwing and catching to controlling their speed as they move safely around spaces and across obstacle courses. They explore different PE equipment including bats, balls and bikes and also the importance of working as a team.

Year 4 - Making a lever system

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 3:04pm

A couple of weeks ago, we started to learn about linkage and lever systems in Design and Technology. We received a letter from The Card Factory asking us to design and make Christmas cards. We used split pins and a template to make a lever system this week to make a waving hand.

Year 1- Science

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 2:54pm

Exploring Materials in Year 1: A Hands-On Science Adventure!
This half term, Year 1 has been diving into the fascinating world of materials. We've been learning about what everyday objects are made from and exploring their different properties. It’s been an exciting journey of discovery, and the children have been becoming real little scientists!
Finding the Best Material for an Umbrella
This week, Year 1 took on a fun challenge—helping Ted find the best material for an umbrella! To do this, we carried out a fair test to compare how well different materials protect us from water. The materials we tested were cling film, tin foil, cloth, and paper towel.
Hands-On Learning
The children were eager to investigate the properties of these materials. They got the chance to observe them up close and experiment with how each material reacted when exposed to water. This linked perfectly with last week's lesson on identifying waterproof and absorbent materials.
The students were amazed at how cling film and tin foil kept water off, while the cloth absorbed it and the paper towel did a great job of soaking it up. Everyone was full of ideas about how these materials could be used in the real world!
Budding Scientists in the Making!
It was wonderful to see how engaged and curious the children were. With their keen observations and scientific thinking, we definitely have some budding scientists in the making! We can’t wait to continue our investigations into materials and see what other discoveries Year 1 will make.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Year 1’s science adventures!

Year 5 French

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 12:54pm

This half term we have been learning how to say different pets in French. Working collaboratively with partners we have developed our ability to introduce ourselves discussing what pets we do and do not have. This is building on our previous learning in school. We are going to continue to build our confidence as we move on through this half term.

Nursery Help the Birds

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 12:17pm

Nursery have been learning about Autumn and how as it gets colder, there is less food for the wildlife. We talked about how squrriels will collect as much food as they can and store it for winter (a bit like doing the big shop!) and how we can help the animals by leaving food out. We filled up some bird feeders with seeds and fat balls and are now waiting to see if any birds come to our Bird Cafe!

Acorns - Together time

Date: 26th Nov 2025 @ 11:28am

Acorns had a lovely afternoon sharing their activities with family and friends. We enjoyed participating in a shared learning experience to support sharing resources and turn taking.

Then we introduced our families to TACPAC. An activity to support regulation through sensory touch experiences.

Thank you to our families for joining and sharing our fun and learning experiences.

Year 1 Phonics

Date: 25th Nov 2025 @ 6:28pm

This half term, Year 1 have continued to work hard in phonics lessons to learn new sounds and apply them in our reading and writing. We are doing lots of activities to help us remember our tricky words and to read words containing phase 3 and phase 5 diagraphs.

Year 5 - PE

Date: 25th Nov 2025 @ 1:56pm

This half term, Year 5 have been developing their gymnastics skills with a focus on jumping techniques. The children have learned how to perform controlled jumps on the floor, concentrating on balance, power and safe landings. They have progressed to jumping onto vaults, practising correct take-off positions and body control in the air. Finally, they have extended their skills by learning to jump safely over vaults, combining speed, height and coordination. Throughout the unit, pupils have improved their confidence, strength and spatial awareness while applying key safety principles in every session.

Year 5 - History

Date: 25th Nov 2025 @ 1:52pm

Year 5 have been studying the Anglo-Saxons this half term. They have learned about when and why the Anglo-Saxons settled in Britain, the different tribes they came from, and what everyday life was like during this period. The class also explored how their beliefs changed over time, learning how the Anglo-Saxons moved from pagan traditions to Christianity and how this transformation affected their culture and society.

They have investigated how the Anglo-Saxons defended their land against repeated Viking raids and invasions, discovering the key battles, leaders, and strategies that shaped this turbulent period. They also learned how the ongoing conflict eventually led to the creation of the Danelaw, an area of Britain ruled by the Vikings but influenced by both cultures.

This week, the children examined the growing threats the Vikings posed over several centuries — from early coastal raids to full-scale invasions — and considered how these challenges impacted Anglo-Saxon communities and the development of early England.

Year 4 - Maths Manipulatives

Date: 25th Nov 2025 @ 12:57pm

In this maths lesson, pupils in year 4 were dividing 2-digit and 3-digit numbers by 10. To support understanding, some pupils used base 10 equipment to exchange 100s for 10s and 10s for 1s. Using manipulatives in math is highly beneficial because they make abstract concepts more concrete and easier to understand.
