After reading the story, Little Red Hen, Reception decided to bake bread. They all worked together, helping each other to weigh the ingredients, mix the ingredients and knead the dough before placing it in a bowl to allow it to rise. Then it was baked in the oven and eaten.
Unlike the story, where Little Red Hen had to do everything herself, all the children worked togther showing kidness and respect.

Maple class have got a brilliant opportunity from World of Stories to take part in their Buzzing about books scheme. We had lots of amazing books delivered last week and for the first few days we just rotated them around the class looking at the huge variety on offer. Year 2- Forest School Fun Part 2
Date: 3rd Oct 2024 @ 10:43pm
This week in forest school we had another fantastic session and managed to enjoy some sunshine! We started by discussing who can help us in case of an emergency on a mountain side and made ourself an emergency shelter before exploring the areas. We said we wanted to focus on frogs so we discussed a frogs habitat, life cycle and food chain before going pond dipping to see what wildlife we could find. We found: water beetles, worms and even a dragonfly nymph that was wrapped up, keeping warm in the pond weed.
Year 6 - Investigating Refraction
Date: 3rd Oct 2024 @ 8:26pm
Year 6 has a great Science lesson this week. The children were amazed by the illusions created by refraction. We learned that refraction distorts images and can even reverse them!
Date: 3rd Oct 2024 @ 6:49pm
Today we began our spiral journey! We looked at examples together first, talking about what we could see in different examples of spirals, before going outside and practising ourselves! We used lots of different resources including chalks, pastels and pencils, to create both big and small spirals.

In Science, we were testing which materials were attracted to a magnet. We made predictions on each object and then tested it with a magnet. The children were excited to find out that objects made of metal were attracted to metal, but we found out not all metal is magnetic.

In Maths, we have been looking at ordering numbers. We looked at putting numbers is ascending and descending order. The children had to pick a range of numbers and put them into the correct order.

It's amazing how much learning the children can take from one activity! This week we have been using small coloured animals to practise our counting. But, at the same time, the children also developed their fine motor skills by using tweezers, sorted objects by colour and learnt to share and take turns with their friends!
Date: 3rd Oct 2024 @ 2:44pm
Everyday at Nursery, the children have lots of opportunities to develop their fine motor skills, Strengthing their finger muscles is essential in supporting a good pencil grip. The children all love messy play and this week they discoverd some bears stuck in jelly! They had to rescue the bears, but weren't allowed to use their hands! We supplied tweezers and spoons and the children had a wonderful time rescuing the bears and made their finger muscles stonger all at the same time!

This week Acorns have been learning about people who help us in the community.
We have had lots of fun exploring through our sensory trays, puzzle matching, stories and songs and rhymes.
We especially loved dressing up and the puppets.
Year 5 - Place Value Perfection
Date: 3rd Oct 2024 @ 9:38am
We have been investigating Place Value and how the placement of digits can impact how we use them, how we say them and the words we use when we say them out loud. Some of us used Base 10 to investigating the concept of exchanging. We looked closely how the physical exchange of 10 ones becomes 10 and 10 tens becomes 100.
Date: 3rd Oct 2024 @ 9:36am
In this art lesson, pupils began to design and create their 3D map. The children used the island map from Kensuke's Kingdom as a starting point and added their own features and used pencil lines to create textures. Next lesson, the pupils will add 3D elements to make their map come to life.

This week, Year 4 have been rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000.
They have been using lots of number lines and have started to use their own independently to be able to work out the nearest multiple of 10, 100 or a 1000 before moving on to application questions. Finally, the class have used their number sentences to inform the class of their reasoning. You can see a small selection of children teaching the class on how they have worked out the task.
The children have really impressed Miss Starkey and Miss Crystal with their mathematical skills as rounding can be tricky!

Reception Willow Class make bread
Date: 1st Oct 2024 @ 9:14pm
This week the children in Willow class have been reading the traditional tale 'Little Red Hen'. After reading the story we talked about the different ingredients we would need to make bread. We found out that we needed flour, yeast, water, salt and olive oil. We all went up to the kitchen to make some bread, just like the Little Red Hen. We measure followed the recipe and measure the correct amount of flour and water. We added some yeast, salt and olive oil and mixed it together to make dough. It was very important tha we kneaded the dough to make sure that the bread would rise in the oven. Once the dough was silky smooth we put it in a bowl and waited for it to rise. We then baked it in the own for 45 minutes. The children enjoyed tasty the bread when we took it out of the oven.
"It is delicious" Kevin
"It's hard kneading the dough" Lilah
"We need flour, salt, water and oil" Kamiyah
Year 4 - Changing States of Matter
Date: 1st Oct 2024 @ 3:42pm
This week, we looked at changing states of matter. This half term, we have been focusing on solids, liquids and gases. So today we looked at what the terms are called when they change from one to another. We started the lesson by holding a piece of chocolate (solid) in our warm hands. This made the chocolate melt and this happened because we increased the temperature. Later in the lesson, we looked at whether salt would make ice melt quicker. It did because the salt and ice melt to make saltwater and that has more particles in it.

Today we were improvising and composing!
We started by using the glockenspiels and to improvise using a these note options:
C, D, E
C, D, E, F, G
We improvised using these 5 notes by making up a pattern of rhythm and melody of our choice – after some experimental time.
We then wrote down our preferred ostinato accurately on stave paper using the notes above, crotchets, minims, quavers. Finally we practiced playing this section for ourselves, then those who choose to, performed their improvised piece for the class.

We have had lots of fun exploring our new activities in the dance studio.

We used the data we gathered from our Science experiment to create digital bar graphs using an online data program. We labelled the axis, gave the data a title and input the results carefully. Once the bar graph was complete we then analysed the data.
We found that the car moved much further down the ramp of smooth wood and it travelled the least down the ramp covered in bubblewrap. This is because there was less friction between the car wheels and the smooth surface and more friction between the wheels and the uneven surface of the bubblewrap.

This week, Reception have been listening to the story Rosie's Walk. This is a story about Rosie the hen who goes for a walk around the farmyard but is unaware of the sneaky, clumsy fox who is following behind her!
The story explores the use of prepositions, across, around, past, through, under and over.
We sequenced the story using prepositional language, collaged a fox, used small world figures to retell the story and made an obstacle course to act out the story.
"I went around the pond" Kayden
"I went over the haystack!" Kevin
"Rosie went past the mill and the fox got flour on him" Hazel.
"The bees chased the fox away!" Freya.
Take a look at our photos!
